    Your vlogs are like a breath of fresh air compared to the bikini clad couples on catamarans, equipped with every possible technology they can buy on seemingly bottomless budgets. You instead decided to go with a small relatively simple boat much like the cruisers of a previous generation. If I might make one suggestion, your boat is begging for a windvane - much more reliable than an autopilot and will keep you right on course in those heavy downwind conditions. You can always use the autopilot in light airs and motoring. Look into the Cape Horn unit - you would not have any control lines in the cockpit.

      Thanks.
      About the wind vane I agree, choosing between the wind vane and the stern platform was hard. I think if I get a good deal on a second hand wind van one of these days I might go for it. So far the autopilot is doing really good.

      The Sailing Frenchman hi, can’t you rig up a folding platform that would accommodate a wind vane, or are they mutually exclusive?

      I agree a windvane is more reliable than an autopilot, but they hardly keep you right on course. Windvane's happily allow you to follow the winds, and if you are lucky that is also where you want to go. As a solo sailor I have to take rest breaks and have woken up a few times to find my windvane has sent me way off course. Looking at the tracks on my chartplotter afterward is almost comical. It looks like a drunk sailor suddenly took over the helm. You would never get that problem with an autopilot.

      Hey, I like the Wynn's! They are hardworking, honest, and competent sailors, not to mention superb cinematographers. And they live aboard. Creature comfort matters when you spend your whole life on your boat. There are several good sailing channels, each with its own perspective. This one is for hardcore small-boat sailors who expect to get wet, and here I am. :)

    10:54 those floating units are very clever. Being around water, the chances of the drone falling and sinking are there, the slv kids lost theirs that way and they couldn't recover it.

    I always look for french steelie yaught to ask them if they can fix something that is broken .Some of them can be more than 40 foot long steel boats some are wood or old 1970s glass de verre GRP but often are cheap with whole family aboard and everything to repair everything .They often have welders electric with generators and even gas cutting solutions and many tools and sowing machines and often fix things cheaper than the local work shops .For bigger more complex jobs seek out Eastern europ or russian or asain ships who often have full workshops and crew who working for $1 a hour will be often able to make stuff for fraction the price of the normal workshops . Consider later to make a hard top bimini with soft sides so the air can ventilate when at anchor and so you can put extra solar panels on top ridgid bimini .Hard to beat those inflatable canoes for going ashore when your solo sailing and it folds up later .Any ideas why the prop fell off .You got lucky to get it back .I would have probably stored it away for emergency use only as the longer parts of sailing around the islands probably never use the inboard and crossing the Atlantic cant see much use for it and the prop acts a drag unless you use it turning to make electric power .Your boat speeds seem impressive for a small boat . You might find some harbors in some parts of the island wont let our type of cruisers into berths as too many in the past did a runner without to pay the bills .Nowadays the marina in all spain are controlled by large corpertions that charge big fees and only want the lbig cash rich sailors with big boats or the locals they can fleece .I know i lived Ibiza for 6 months canaries for a year spain for five years and France for 5 years Greece for year portugal for 6 months so can say the marina stories are in constant flux but prices are generally going upwards..old hands have told me A water maker is good thing in the carabeen where water can cost lot due to its scarcity on some islands .

    Why did the propeller fall off? Did a pin break?

    • @TheSailingFrenchman
      @TheSailingFrenchman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it fell off because of vibrations (high speed on the previous sail) and also the system I used was bad, a US shaft cone with a EU prop cone... but all these are guesses. With this folding prop, no pin, just a screw that holds the bolt in position, and that looked fine...
