Can the dried nuts be frozen in order to be able to eat them beyond a week after cleaning? If so, would you freeze them raw or freeze them after cooking? There must be a way to store them beyond a week in the fridge so you can enjoy them in late fall, winter, or spring.
I am a native of Chinese, we have been eating the Ginkgo nuts for generations. To answer this question ,yes, you can place the nuts in a zip-log bag in the freezer to store them. It will last for years.
In Amsterdam we only plant the male trees. In old times the streets would become too slippery with the nuts falling on the ground. I didn't know it takes quite a bit of work to consume them safely.
Ginkgo seeds contain Ginkgotoxin that inhibits Vitamin B usage by the body that can lead to nausea and seizures among other things. www.cfs.gov.hk/english/multimedia/multimedia_pub/multimedia_pub_fsf_204_02.html tl;dr: no more than 10 a day if you don't want symptoms, fewer for kids
False. What is the "poison" you are incorrectly referring to? What is the chemical reaction with the salt? How much salt for how many nuts? You don't know because what you said is completely made up.
I'm highly allergic to urishol/ poison ivy. While picking them with bare hands, I ate a couple of the fruit. Don't try this at home.... I'm a professional. Lol. They were sweet and tasted a lot like Persimmons. Most people have had plums, so that's probably the most common similarity. Without the leaves, I would possibly mistake them for persimmons and eaten too many. Maybe I should have watched this video first and consulted a field guide. Live and learn. My mouth did feel a little strange, but no blisters. My hands did not break out like ivy, but days later were badly swollen. JFYI and anyone else's benefit, I am in an inflammatory state of my swollen fingers and digestive system. I thought it was something that I got from Thanksgiving dinner. Now I think it's Ginkgo fruit in my blood stream. My protocol is to avoid doctors and detox with the Lord's help. He made milk thistle and liver for that. I trust physicians about as far as I can throw their hospital. 😄 One toxin was enough. I sure don't need drugs to tax the system and really mess me up.
😢it is really stinky it was planted on school grounds --had no fruit till 20 ft tall no way to guarantee you have fruit bearing tree. Tree is glorious in the fall it changes to yellow very fast
They are actually pretty good, had an aftertaste similar to lobster!
I agree! Totally worth the trouble and fun to forage!

Similar to sushi. Freezing is a method of cooking.

I just ate 20 cooked nuts without removing the centers…is that okay?
fascinating!

Thank you. Very informative! But, please!! Look up how to season cast iron. Your poor pan is suffering:(
Good for coughs n congestion
Thank you!!
Can we eat leaves from the tree directly?
Why only eat 10 per day? Did I miss something? Eat in moderation...because of Vitamin B?

5:54 It contains something that prevents your body from absorbing vitamin B - so if you eat too many you can get vitamin B deficiency.
Cook it with salt. That mitigates the poison from it a bit.

They're nuts? I thought they were roots or mushrooms that come up from the ground. Hmm............
