It was interesting to see inside of the tuners. I don't think hardened or missing lubricant caused the problem. In my mind it would require an electric motor to damage high quality gears. I'm leaning towards the problem being inexpensive metal alloys used in the manufacture of the gears. Thus, I attribute the wear to normal use over the years. My two pennies 🙂
Finally a video about 70s tuners! It’s hard to find videos about these tuners and it sucks because they’re very nice:( I have a pair of 6 mustang reissue tuners that I’m gonna use for my guitar upgrade and it’s so confusing to do searching for these tuners
Well what I can say is that is not a great design. Both of those brands are great alternatives. I just like the look of the original ones and that I don’t have to drill any new holes. Hopefully I won’t have the same issue.
Got some myself. From ‘76. Pretty sticky. Hen I tried to clean n’ grease it thought they couldn’t come apart! Good job friend!

Good luck to all.

Thanks for watching!
Not a boring video pretty informative thanks
Thank you!
I have a reissue and feel Grover or Sperzel would be so much better. Should I change? Your thoughts welcomed.

I would love to win that bass , also good luck to everyone else that is in the contest to win the bass
Hey Rusty Fenders!
Hello!
It sucks that you have to open them to clean them. especially since a lot of people would not be willing to take the tuners off their guitars.
🙂
Thanks for washing Sir!
Not the best tuner design.
I really like how they self align. I'm sure that's why they did them that way but there are a lot of gaps for the grease to run out and dry out.
