Welcome to Sensible Secondhand Reviews, the series where we usually take a sensible secondhand car worth between £1000 and £5000 and put it through its paces in a very straightforward manner! This time, however, we test a 2017 Smart Fortwo 0.9 Brabus Xclusive (W453/C453), which is not very sensible at all.
Be prepared for a rather strange system of accessing the bonnet, a convenient place to sit and lace up shoes, lots of Renault switchgear, a strange rev counter and very little of any consequence at all. Nothing untoward, then!

The bonnet has always opened a similar. The rear door has always opened the same way too and I like it.
I had to do the same with a Forfour the other day. It hadn't got any easier in the meantime....
I ran a 3rd generation Twingo for 3 and a half years as a lease car, I really Liked it, very nippy and full of character. I had the 90hp tce engine and would recommend this engine over the 1.0. The turning circle is so tiny as well.
Yes, it would be much better than the 1.0, I imagine. The turning circle in this was ridiculous! A much better car than the previous generation W451 Smart.
We had a 451 1L and 453 0.9L turbo. The 453 was a great car and entertaining to drive.
It was certainly a lot better than the previous generation Smart Fortwo that I tried on the same day... Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I have tried all models (450, 451 & 453) of the Smart Fortwo and the 453 is the only one I would want.
Yes, having tried that C451, I would agree.
I just actually saw this model Smart (Cabriolet) earlier today! Brabus was imported with the previous generation, not this generation.
This has all the options; navigation, premium sound system, heated seats, and a few other bits.
If I could, I would love to purchase a Prime with navigation, premium sound, and different wheels.
Well, sir, we have some more Smart action coming up on the channel soon! This was a very expensive Brabus when it was new, although it is actually quite good value compared with the other C453 Fortwo Brabuses on sale in this country at the moment.
Unsurprisingly the Smart Fortwo is still a very uniquely good looking little city car all these years later. The concept of a very short wheelbase two seater car that could be parked face onto the kerb as opposed to parallel to the kerd was a novel idea, whether Traffic Wardens actually acknowledged this I am not sure.
This Brabus version does look very sharp and luxurious and appears to be fun to drive.
The Smart remains a well engineered, eye catching and very different Looking little vehicle.
I really can't help concluding that, apart from perpendicular parking, the Citroën C1, Kia Picanto, Seat Arosa, Suzuki Alto, Toyota Aygo, Ford Ka and Fiat Panda all did the city car thing with more practicality and far superior value.
Yes, these Brabus models in particular have incredibly residuals, as people really love them. It was fun, although admittedly not perhaps my sort of thing. I would probably prefer to have one of the previous generation Picanto GT-Lines, I think.
Mad little car , the grin on your face at the start spoke volumes.
It's a totally crazy car. It's not really my sort of thing, but we did enjoy ourselves nevertheless!
16:49 nice one
We aim to please!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting My Brabus W453 used to do that. If the engine was more predictable/smoother I would have kept it.
I don't think I would be able to cope with it if it were my car!
Brilliant little things.. I own a 450 and love it 😀
Well, if you can't get enough Smart Fortwo action on this channel, we have another one coming up soon...
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Brilliant 🙏
@@Jaxs2 , this is only the second of six reviews I filmed at the same place last week.
Great little review Sir, one did seem to enjoy himself when he pulled out of the junction there.
This is a crazy little car! They also command quite high prices. Not really for me, but I did enjoy having a go in it.
Awesome
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Bought a first generation smart got rid of it within a month gearbox was atrocious
We may have an older Smart coming up on the channel soon as well, sir....
4th
Very good, sir!
