- Brabus have a habit of turning cars into something a little crazy and one of their latest introductions is the Ultimate 125, a limited edition run of 125 Smart cars with 125 horsepower, for €50,000. The 'regular' Brabus Smart is the top spec version of the ForTwo from the factory with 110PS, already a fair hike from the base 71PS but now it's gone even more wild with the Widestar bodykit, 18" wheels all around and a new exhaust system with triple-tips.
As a car though, that much power through something so small, on large wheels with tough springs makes it quite a go kart and a very solid ride. It can turn on a sixpence and it's the tiniest thing you can imagine, and in this case, Brabus have even given it a new interior finish too!
Let's take a walk around the Brabus Ultimate 125 and then go for a drive to see what it's like.

to clarify the purpose of the brabus smart to all those curious:
it isn't a car that would make sense to buy unless you have a lot of money and you are looking for a car for the city. Nowadays there are many wealthy people in the city who are trying to find fun small cars to go around and park in. These are usually younger, more active people. This would suit someone with a lot of money who is looking for a more showy small car. Cool car but definitely not your typical car shopper's buy.
half of me thinks it's stupid to pay 50k for a smart, but I also think it's awesome!

for 50k euros you can get a great condition used 650/S7/CLS550
You could probably get a '60s Porsche 912 for somewhere around that price. Not sure which would win in a drag race tho..

What's the hate against drum brakes? They have advantages over disc brakes if the requirements aren't too harsh. And they are in the back of a 900 kilo car. The disks you'd need in the back would basically seem like bicycle brakes.
Although I admit that the look kind of silly with those big wheels.

since when have smart cars been designed for real performance? even the performer models are out classed to cars with normal size engines, but that isnt why people by them. i admit as cool as this one is for the smart car class its in and i would own one, i wouldnt pay 50k either.

So $50,000 for marginally better performance and some red leather seats and a B sign on the front and back of the car and three exhaust tips. Seems illogical af to me. For $50,000 there are so much new or second hand cars which will fulfil any man's luxury needs!
I think the price mainy comes from the fact that they only made 125 of these. It's like a super braggy limited edition Smart for rich people. I've got a regular Brabus with a custom exhaust and some computer tuning and it's just as good for half the price. - Yet some people consider me crazy buying that already.
Limited production trim level, shouldn't justify a higher price. A manufacturer like Mercedes should be ashamed of this value for money.
When Porsche has limited production trim, they have a reasonable msrp. Its the dealers who then mark up the price.

Yeah Dan Hall, listen to people before you leash out on people here. You buy a new Smart at a Mercedes dealership and make a contract with Daimler Benz.

Same thing that I was thinking. It is tuned by a company that makes S900 or the G6x6 and then they make this Smart and want €50.000 for it. I just want to mention that you can get a pretty good configured Golf GTI for less. Ok it might be bigger but it has more power and because its bigger you can fit more of your groceries in it.
But it is not necessarily more cool... The customers that buy this kind of city cars use them next to their hyper- and supercars, since the Brabus Smart can also be fully customised. In the end, they are not really fussed about a Golf GTI.
So a Brabus Smart is more for the customers that want a city car, maybe daily driver, that already own a fleet of hyper-/supercars. And a Golf GTI is the customer that only owns one maybe two cars. I don't hate Brabus or Smart but I would get a GTI or something else in that class because for me it would be more useful on day to day bases although I'm more the motorcycle guy.

What is really sad is that Brabus won't sell anyone the wheels or body kit. Sure they want to make it exclusive but it just sucks there is little tuning available for the rest of us.

Isn't it funny how people think disc brakes are cool, an essential sport upgrade. When on a light car, the drums are perfectly sufficient on the rear of a car.

Sufficient and better are 2 different things. Discs are better on a sports car in every aspect. They are significantly easier to work on besides the performance difference. Anyone can change pads and rotors. Drum brakes are a pain to work on.

The frame is overbuilt. You and put a Range Rover on top of the thing and the frame wouldn't even buckle.

It'd need to improve from 9.5s to 100kmh down to around 4.5s to be worthy of getting a Brabus name for me. At 9.2s I think of that as a reasonable time for a VW Camper van with 75hp.
I just watched Doug DeMuro's review of the Pontiac Aztek, and it does 0-60 in 9.4 seconds. Imagine the shame of owning a Brabus and not being able to shake off an Aztek.

This car is meant for people that want something bespoke and unique, but also limited. Those kind of customers are normally not interested in a Fiesta ST, but want something cool and unique next to their line up of hypercars and other Brabus cars. ;)

M. A.K I was walking up a hill one day and hear a very nice sounding bike. I look back and see a smart car driving past the lights. My dad never believed me but then we went into a building where I saw the same Smart car and it turned out that they put in a yamaha R1 engine into it 😂😂 damn savages. Since that day I've always wanted to buy a smart car so I can do exactly the same with it 😂 only problem is that there was not reverse but no worries it's so light so you can just nudge it into a parking 😂
I like SmartCars, especially the new look. I think this thing looks cool and I'd buy one... IF IT WAS CHEEPER! I think it would be great fun to drive that thing with that much horsepower in such a tiny body.

I do like the car but i think the Fiat 500 Abarth is more like the nicest city car.
€50,000 = about $60,000. If I were to spend that much money on a car, I'd get a Corvette C7, since it starts at $55,450 and it has more space, more horsepower, available in a 7 speed manual, and has a huge aftermarket background. That smart will blow up if you change the air filter. I actually like Smarts, I find them to be nice tiny cars, but I don't think anyone would pay about $60,000 for a Smart with a bunch of leather and a B at the front of it.

Wow, the 18" rims in the rear really show off the ancient drum brakes. Didn't even know cars still came with drum brakes...especially cars costing more than 15k!
Great Review. I owned the last Generation Brabus Smart and with a few tweaks it was blowing 130hp and was derestricted and would eventually do 200kph however you'd need balls the size of cannon balls to drive it at that speed for long as any input into the steering wheel made the car move and the wind noise was horrific. For those saying the price is too high, yes it is high but if you own one how many other Brabus Smarts will you see on the roads. Three years of ownership and never saw another one on the roads.

Imo this seems like the perfect car for the daughter of a millionaire. It's "cute", perfect for the cities, understated on the outside but is nice on the inside, and it's just fun.

Hi Shmee, I'm guys and today we sort of will be taking a look at sort of a car that is sort of awesome if you catch my sort of drift.
The key fob from the smart is actually from a French car called a Renault Clio 2008 model
And........ here I am struggling to even afford regular honda, nissan or other japan cars
i'm not a wealthy super rich dude to buy one of those, but as someone who used to daily a supercab f-150 on the city looking for parking was a nightmare, then one day i bought a smart roadster (sporty-er version of the smart cars) for weekends and it made way more sense to daily that; i love the car and everything but i guess it makes sense a more "new" and "luxirious" version for wealthier people, HOWEVER i think this little fella lacks a lot of tech, it even has the same instrument dash than mine lol

It has a lot of Renault such as the hazard light button, door handles and the infotainment system
At best I would spend 6k on a smart car... used.
Another option is to put a streetbike motor in an older smart, you can easily get 150+hp for under $5,000!! We have shown its possible in detail on our channel, if you like that stuff, check it out!
