Can You Beat Elden Ring by Following in Vyke's Footsteps?

- The Elden Ring cover artwork features a character who somehow ended up as a side character in the actual story. Vyke, a knight of the roundtable almost became Elden Lord, but became a festering fingerprint instead after meeting the three fingers. Can we take Vyke's place and succeed where he has failed. After all, you can't trust the frenzied flame but you can thrust using the frenzy flame thrust. He also wields three of the frenzy flame incantations, but don't let that go to your head as his armor will not defend you against the inevitable build up of madness.

In case you're wondering, I'm pretty sure Faith exclusively increases the damage of the fire trails.
Still not that useful at 99 Faith. For the investment, anyways.

Electrify yourself with lightening but the game says imbued
Vyke's story really is tragic. The most promising candidate to mend the Elden Ring and claim the throne, seduced by promises to save one he cared for. And in the end, like a deal with the devil, he was left with neither. Reduced to a twisted shadow of his former glory, a testament to the dangers of the Frenzied Flame
I love his story and the Frenzied Flame lore. I think it's one of the best examples of story telling in Elden ring. Scattered bits of lore across the entire game, that when put together tell you a story you could have never known was even there.
I think, based on him wearing armor into the 3 fingers room and the lore description of the frenzied burst incant (vyke is the only enemy who uses it, could be that he was the one who made the spell), he was trying to tame and control the chaos flame to save his maiden and then get rid of it afterwards. He just failed
This made me realize, Vyke is just frickin Anakin/Vader.

I wish Gideon actually had unique comments based on the armors you wear that are relevant to the roundtable hold like Vyke or Vargram.
It's kinda fitting, but it's also really annoying that Vyke's armor has comically bad focus meaning that using the frenzy spells with it on is not viable without a Horn Charm.
30% damage increase when the madness procks itself on you. Or atleast with howl of shabiri
@@kingborgar35 The Howl lowers your defenses so much that you might as well just wear no armor at that point lol.
@@kingborgar35 The only damage buff you can get by suffering from madness is 10% (for 60 seconds) and the armor piece that does that is the "black dumpling" headpiece. Howl pf Shabriri increases your damage by 25% but you take 30% more and you don't need to proc madness.

I mean that make sense if you look at the lore , since the flame of frenzy is supposed to burn everything and everyone including yourself , what really is frustrating is the fact it doesn’t proc frenzy against bosses at least it should affect lesser bosses but it doesn’t
And some bosses does proc against some certain bosses like dragons(except ancient dragons)

I never actually paid any attention to his armor to realize it is melted in such a way that it looks like he was grabbed by the 3 fingers while wearing it. Also, learning how he nearly became Elden Lord really makes me wish he played a bigger role in the game's plot.
To think that it’s entirely possible that forgetting to take off his armour is why he failed to become Lord of Frenzied Flame.

I just realized, using the spear against Malenia is made even worse by the fact there's just a random pool of water in the middle of the arena, which increases fire resistance.
I’m not sure if the water in her boss room actually works like that or not.
For example if you use lightning arrows in her room, the lightning doesnt scatter like it should in other water maps.
It might just be aesthetic water, if that makes sense.

@@XFizzlepop-Berrytwist I actually put this to the test just now and here is what I found. Water in her arena indeed doesn't conduct standard lightning bolts for some reason, but it does conduct lightning strike. So it depends on the lightning source somehow. And when it comes to fire, it increase the player's fire resistance (useless against Malenia obviously since she has no fire attacks). So how about Malenia's defenses? Well I hit her in the water with a fire infused weapon and then I kited her around the edges so that she wouldn't be in contact with water for a few minutes. And the result was that I did more damage afterwards. 233 in the water and 258 out of the water. The reverse results with lightning damage. So yes, the water increase Malenia's fire resistance and decreases her lightning resistance.

The one last admirable thing Vyke did as repentance is to be locked in the Evergoal completely ridding of any of his Frenzied-Flame related weapons and seals.
The fact you fight not the madness ridden knight but the former dragon-blessed hero of Leyndell is what makes me so infatuated with his tragic tale, and how in the end he takes full responsibility for it.

Fun fact Vyke's Dragonbolt incantation decreasing your Lightning defense actually makes sense. In physics for lightning to travel through the air it's basically charging air molecules to make them transmit electricity which makes practically invisible tracks of charged particles in the atmosphere all the way to the ground and as soon as one touches the ground it shortcircuits the lightning through it. So even though in RPG logic it might seem like it should make you more resistent to lightning, the fact the air around is all charged up would do the opposite by making it more conductive.

Gonna agree with you, it'd be really awesome if there was extra dialogue with Melina if you used the frenzied flame just to burn down the Erdtree and then suppressed it with the needle.
I mean, if you just go for the Lord of Frenzy ending she threatens that she's gonna kill your guts with Destined Death, but like... It'd be interesting to see what she would have to say to one who only used the Flame to save her and immediately abandoned it.
Maybe that's something FromSoft are gonna follow up on, just like her threat, when they get around to releasing DLC.
"...Tarnished, was it truly thy goal to use the Frenzied Flame, for a reason as foolish as to prevent the death of thine maiden? I suppose such is thy nature. Regardless, repeat it no longer."

Melina is dead. She was a disembodied spirit, only capable of traveling with the aid of Torrent, and then, you. Is she going to be shackled to you, or someone else, for all eternity? Just let her rest, man. She's earned that much, at least. And if she's the Gloam-Eyed Queen? Then I can't imagine she desires eternal life, either. The whole point behind the GEQ's crusade was to end immortality, and restart the natural cycle of birth and death, so fresh things could have a chance to live; and the old given their just reward in the spirit world.

Lore fact, Vyke didn't succumb to madness, he became an envoy of it. Like the playable character and Shabriri, they keep their sanity and become a harbinger of chaos and turmoil. He became lost when he found out his maiden died (possibly suicide), so he never finished his journey to Elden lord.

When the Tarnished player character becomes Lord of Chaos, I don't believe that's them. I believe they become a literal hollow vessel for the Frenzied Flame to exert its will. And I dunno if Shabriri could be considered "sane". He's high-functioning, at best. One doesn't have to be a gibbering lunatic to be mad. Vyke, though... he wasn't mad. His true body in the evergaol doesn't use madness, and if he's the one who sealed himself there? Then that proves he was lucid.
@@TheSuperRatt By sanity, I means the ability to think for themselves still. When we see madness take people, they completely become enthralled in agony. I understand it as inheriting the frenzied flame as becoming a harbinger, having the power without it taking over your mind. I also agree with you that we are no longer us after becoming the lord. Possibly like how the flame god takes your stomach, the madness could take your head.
@@blaz506 i believe when inheriting the Flame you aren't Just instantly eaten alive by madness, wich Is why you can still revert It, but It rather works more like a sickness:
The madness we build up by attacking Is temporary, but over time, if not healed with the Needle, the Frenzy eats away at its Host's very Beeing, becoming Chronic.
I Imagine It to be akin to the Scarlet Rot status build up VS the Scarlet Rot Millicent and Malenia are affected by.
I feel like this makes the most sense, for the Simple fact that in the final cutscene we see the Tarnished drunkenly stumble around before falling over and rising again as Lord of Chaos, like they are barely in control of Their own body

I believe the Godskins are somehow related to the Serpent Men, the Noble even has a tail. So I think this is how the Apostle can go all stretchy since the Serpent Men in Volcano Manor can also stretch like that.
Perhaps moreso to the crucible. Primordial creation seems to be serpent like, or beastly, seen with the misbegotten, crucible knight tail spell, etc, and it is noted that the noble is the far longer lived of the apostle types, and thus his snake tail and form is a lot more prominent and girthy, and it would make sense for these ancient apostles of a death goddess in the time right after the elden ring won out over the crucible, would be more related to it than other newer life forms of the lands between.

One godskin duo is at Volcano Manor, so maybe he taught Rykard some techniques, which would lead to the serpents you see.
@@MemoriesLP It might have something to do with the ancient Crucible that the Crucible Knights channel for their abilities. Since that seems to be from an age where things were more primordial but also more Chimaeric.

I still think the strech from the snakes comes from the godskin duos.
At the same time, if I'm not mistaken, these godskin duo are really old, maybe they learned something from the Crucible, since the crucible also strech their horns and tails with the incantations.
I wonder if we can find some lore connections to help sorting that out. The godskin and rykard look more straight forward to me

it makes me kinda sad that almost all bosses and enemies are immune to Frenzy. like i wish that it functioned like frostbite or something and just added a little burst of damage, that way i wouldn’t feel like an idiot for using frenzy spells outside of PVP
I feel like madness should’ve opened bosses up to a riposte when activated
Frenzy spells do a lot of fire damage: I melted every boss with unendurable frenzy, including Malenia, Maliketh and the Elden Beast

but if you use incantations like unendurable frenzy with buffs like golden vow, it can be a very powerful build
just watch out for the frenzy build-up, since Vyke's armour is very bad against it

Vyke's story is one of the most interesting parts of this game's lore,it's really neat that they took the time and effort to tell the story of other tarnished that got so close to becoming Elden Lord.

Just in case you didn't know, the 'gaol' part of evergaol is actually pronounced 'jail'. It's a very very old English way of spelling and pronouncing the word. Love your playthroughs btw! Always good fun.

The reason coating yourself in lightning increases your lightning damage taken is because it makes you a better conductor. That can be handy if you wanna train, though.

For the next run, I think it's only fitting that you try to follow in the footsteps of the other promising Elden Lord candidate, Bernahl.
Put Vacuum Slice on a Zweihander and only use Vacuum Slice until Melina burns herself, then switch to the Devourer's Scepter and only use Devourer of Worlds for the rest of the run. You can also use the incantation version of Golden Vow (yes, even after Bernahl has sworn vengeance against the Erdtree, he still casts this incantation worshipping the Erdtree), and I guess you can use the Blasphemous Claw against Maliketh since Bernahl does drop it so he was probably planning on using it. Also, no wearing the helmet until you switch to the Scepter.
Ranni ending since it's the only non-Greater-Will ending besides Frenzied Flame, and I don't think Bernahl wants to kill everybody, just the gods if not the Greater Will specifically. Plus it's the closest thing to putting Rykard in charge since she's his sister.
You can kill Bernahl in his shack for all his stuff pretty much immediately, no need to wait until he invades you.
Only problem (other than the fact that Devourer of Worlds sucks ass) is that Vacuum Slice is in Deeproot, so you'll have to either cheat it in or do the run in NG+ after getting it legitimately.

This is a challenge I did on one of my new game plus runs and it was by far my favourite of any of my runs, I made some tweaks that allowed me to use pretty much anything frenzy based not just his spear and the seal, but it was a blast being choosing some of the darker options and using gear I’ve never really touched till that point

So something I learned after seeing the word in-game, “gaol” is an like an old Gaelic/Celtic word that is literally pronounced “jail”, so it is actually spelled correctly.

Some suggestions for Mogh and Morgott.
Mogh actually has two jumpeable attacks. The one where he spins his staff over his head with a really delayed swipe, and the one where he swings from the side while holding the staff with both hands. Could've probably jumped those with the WA.
You should've probably been rolling with Morgott rather than away from him. The move where he follows up with the spear throw if you run away will be followed up by the spin jump if you roll with him. The spin jump gives a much bigger punish window in P1, and carries into P2.

Yes, you can beat elden ring as Vyke, I’ve already done it. That was my ‘Frenzy Flame’ run after my ‘Age of Stars’ run. I already had the armor, the spear, the frenzy spells, and the red lightning spells. It was a pretty powerful build.

I've done 2 playthroughs of Elden Ring and I died to Morgott both times as I killed him. Watching this just brought those memories back
Fun fact, Vyke appears to be wearing a burned version of the knights set and spear so that could work aswell
