Hi, thank you for your videos. My English Mastiff wash just diagnosed with protein losing enteropathy, although they don't know the root cause. They recommend a low fat diet. I was wondering how coconut oil fits in with that.
My first question when I hear this is 'Whats the diet?' Please tell me your dogs diet, past and present so I can advise. BTW I'd replace coconut oil with MCT oil for more benefits and without the problems. MCT oil will not use the normal digestive proceses so it's good for your dogs needs: amzn.to/3Es3zqk
Thank you for replying. She was on Diamond Naturals chicken and rice all life stages. They had me start her on Hills I/D low fat wet food (cans), and to add the dry version. But I can't possibly afford that with the amount my Mastiff needs to eat. Currently (and hopefully not hurtful to her?), I am feeding her chicken/oatmeal/egg whites in the morning, and liver/rice/carrots/green beans/broccoli/a little bit of peas for the rest of the day. She is taking antibiotics and prednisone, liver pills, clotting pill, and vit B12 pill from the vet - started a week ago. I have also started mixing herbs/spices in her foods, (not all together) - ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, dandelion root extract, milk thistle, iron supplement from the vet....I would like to start the MCT (is it considered less fat?) and kefir, but am waiting until my friend sends me a new batch. I make my kefir at home, but haven't found r the last 4-5 months.
@@jamihuling Thank you for the information. I like what your feeding, just some obsevations that can help... a lot! I highly recommend you stop the prednisone, antibiotics and possibly the liver meds (what brand are they?). Pred. never ends well. You can use natural antibiotics such as Oregano oil: amzn.to/3ulnF1T Just mix 1 part oregano oil to 7 parts olive oil ie 1 drop organo oil to 7 drops olive oil and fold into a bread treat and down the hatch. I'm using the oregano oil myself these last few days, great antibiotic option. I'm just wanting you to undestand the detriment of vet drugs over time when there natural versions of everything. Dandelion root extract and milk thistle are excellent (this is your natural liver meds). MCT is better than coconut oil... all the benefits without the problems and yes, less fat. Re eggs, use the whole egg and serve it raw for best nutrition. I also make my own kefir at home. Ask for any clarifications or advice. All the best.
It's not dangerous. Theres been limited research that suggests lauric acid can be inflammatory, that's all and nothing conclusive as yet, it's ongoing. You can use MCT oil which is derived from coconut oil and excellent for the dogs brain and gut health, just strat small doses first week: Organic MCT oil - amzn.to/3tLlCnR
Better still is MCT oil:Organic MCT oil: amzn.to/3MDXeMq It's from coconut oil but more effective. Just start small at 1/4 dose size and work up over a few days. First time I tried it was too much and soft stools the result, but great brain food. About 1/8 tsp for small dogs.
Just get some lavender oil, add 5-6 drops to bowl of warm water, swish around, use a cloth, soak, lightly wring and apply to area for relief and healing: amzn.to/3Adi80C
Yes it is but I've changed my mind now upon further research. If you have it already and your dog has no allergy/skin/yesat issues, it's ok. If they do then use MCT oil (made from coconut oil) : amzn.to/3Es3zqk Go slow and small to begin with and build up over 1 week.
Hi Dess, it's providing energy without taxing the digestive system. You know how you feel a little sluggish after you eat a good meal, that's because your digestion system is now busy and slows you down some. Coconut oil does not need the usual digestive system response to be digested easily which means your dog gets the energy boost without the lag of heavy digestion. Give every second day.
I used to recommend that but new research suggests otherwise. Instead use MCT oil but start small and work up to standard dose over several days to avoid soft stools: Organic MCT oil: amzn.to/3MDXeMq Lots of health benefits here.
I give my dog coconut oil all the time.. Can I also give my dog monolaurin pills? I also want to know can I add the probiotic bacillus subtilis to my dog diet? I already give my dog a 22 strain probiotic but it doesn't have the bacillus subtilis strain. Recap... So my two main questions is can I give my dog monolaurin pills? Can I give my dog bacillus subtilis probiotic strain?
Yes, that's a good strain. Monolaurin pills, probably better than actual coconut oil as that's converted into monolaurin. I now recommend using MCT oil over coconut oil, same advantages but without the issue of lauric acid, lately deemed a problem from some testing. MCT OIl: amzn.to/3Es3zqk If you use it, go easy, start small and slow.
I'm now recommending MCT oil, made from coconut oil and a better choice: amzn.to/3MDXeMq Great brain food too but start with just a 1/4 dose size to begin with and build over a week as I found from dosing myself, too much too soon leads to soft stools.
No, it should be fine, just start at half dose and move up to full dose over a week. The dosage for coconut oil is a level teaspoon for every 15lbs of body weight. Simply add to your dogs meal or give as a treat. Also add some quality probiotics to every meal: amzn.to/3xqa2i0 They will really help the issues your dog faces by improving digestion and skin. And also add some Hemp Seed oil: amzn.to/3vDdtjX to all meals for much better skin health. Also begin adding some fresh food to the meals such as canned sardines, eggs and cooked and well mashed veg. If you do all of the above while taking out a quarter of the old food at each meal, your GSD will get relief and less skin/coat/itch issues quickly.

@@DanScott1 Thank you and I have ordered your ebook.
@@WWu-ng9ds Your welcome and thank you.
Hi, thank you for your videos. My English Mastiff wash just diagnosed with protein losing enteropathy, although they don't know the root cause. They recommend a low fat diet. I was wondering how coconut oil fits in with that.
My first question when I hear this is 'Whats the diet?'
Please tell me your dogs diet, past and present so I can advise.
You can use natural antibiotics such as Oregano oil: amzn.to/3ulnF1T
Just mix 1 part oregano oil to 7 parts olive oil ie 1 drop organo oil to 7 drops olive oil and fold into a bread treat and down the hatch.
What about inflaming digestive system like the lady from the other channel said it’s dangerous
My dog had (likely) pancreatitis -is ok regard coconut oil (Jack Russel 10 yr.old)?
Better still is MCT oil:Organic MCT oil: amzn.to/3MDXeMq
It's from coconut oil but more effective. Just start small at 1/4 dose size and work up over a few days. First time I tried it was too much and soft stools the result, but great brain food.
About 1/8 tsp for small dogs.
@@DanScott1 Thank You for advise
Will this help my dogs rash on his belly ? I’m sure it’s allergy
Just get some lavender oil, add 5-6 drops to bowl of warm water, swish around, use a cloth, soak, lightly wring and apply to area for relief and healing: amzn.to/3Adi80C
Hi Dan, my puppy has suddenly stopped eating his coconut oil. I’ve tried to mix it with his food or kefir but he’s having none of it…what should I do?
I'd stop the coconut oil then. You could try MCT oil which is even better and not so coconutti tasting: amzn.to/3Es3zqk
Thank you Dan. You are very helpful!
@@barbaramorand197 Your welcome Barbara.
Hello, Dan. How often should I feed him with coconut oil? Every meal or once a day?
Once every other day.
@@DanScott1 thank you
Hello! Is Nutvia organic, virgin coldpressed unrefined Coconut oil is good to give dogs?
Yes it is but I've changed my mind now upon further research. If you have it already and your dog has no allergy/skin/yesat issues, it's ok. If they do then use MCT oil (made from coconut oil) : amzn.to/3Es3zqk
Go slow and small to begin with and build up over 1 week.
@@DanScott1 ok
Why is my dog so hyper after giving coconut oil?
Hi Dess, it's providing energy without taxing the digestive system. You know how you feel a little sluggish after you eat a good meal, that's because your digestion system is now busy and slows you down some. Coconut oil does not need the usual digestive system response to be digested easily which means your dog gets the energy boost without the lag of heavy digestion.
Give every second day.
Because doggy loves it!
How to prevent anal plug something like in puppy sir ? And if it has what should I do ?

Hey Sharon, thanks for watching, glad you liked it and great to see you here.
Can you give him coconut oil everyday in he’s food
I used to recommend that but new research suggests otherwise. Instead use MCT oil but start small and work up to standard dose over several days to avoid soft stools: Organic MCT oil: amzn.to/3MDXeMq
Lots of health benefits here.

Ok, thank you.
MCT OIl: amzn.to/3Es3zqk
If you use it, go easy, start small and slow.
@@DanScott1 Thanks so much for the well needed info.

Your welcome, happy you found benefit from the video.
So u can gave dog that oil 1:47
I'm now recommending MCT oil, made from coconut oil and a better choice: amzn.to/3MDXeMq
Great brain food too but start with just a 1/4 dose size to begin with and build over a week as I found from dosing myself, too much too soon leads to soft stools.
Will it give them diarrhea? We have a 3 year old German Shepard with horrible skin and itch issues.
No, it should be fine, just start at half dose and move up to full dose over a week. The dosage for coconut oil is a level teaspoon for every 15lbs of body weight. Simply add to your dogs meal or give as a treat.
Also add some quality probiotics to every meal: amzn.to/3xqa2i0
They will really help the issues your dog faces by improving digestion and skin.
@@DanScott1 thank you.. ordered both products....praying it works.
@@yosemitesam1056 Yes they are a great start. And please take note of the foods to add along with the supplements for maximum benefits.
