I am a former college football player (though not power 5 level) and I absolutely understand the time commitment, sacrificing your body, etc to play football. I am very much on the side of football players getting a piece of the enormous amounts of money flowing through college football, especially at the P5 level.
However the kind of money getting thrown around in these NIL deals is pretty insane. These are still college football players, they are not yet professional athletes, these are still amateur players. I think there needs to be a balance here, and I think some kind of cap on NIL might help. I think a cap would make it to where guys play for the schools and teams that are the best fit, and not the highest bidder, as you would get the same pay regardless of where you go. A friend of mine thinks there needs to be contracts in place if we're going to go the route of paying players really high amounts of money and essentially become a professional organization. Not sure what the best answer is.

I think that’s a super fair way to look at it. I’m not so sure there is a simple solution to it at the moment. Thanks for watching and thanks for the insight my friend!

If assistant coach did this, he’s tearing down the program. Head coach beware and be aware.

Absolutely, that’s a crazy situation on the rise

Gotta get everything in writing. They need national regulations on NIL soooo bad. That way this can't happen as often. Also i wonder if an assistant said it and didn't tell anyone else. Like you said, thats a program built on lies. Love that we have players that are good enough to deserve to be paid like Avery but also just want to be paid a fair amount by the school they chose normally, and boosters willing to pay up. As long as no one comes to Kstate exclusively for the money this won't be a problem here. Want you to want to be here, and we'll gladly pay you fairly.

It is absolutely baffling to me that there aren’t contract requirements yet. I mean it does not make sense to not get it in writing. Maybe it’s the NCAA being dumb though for all I know. Thanks for watching brother!

It’ll be interesting to see how this affects the recruiting of these teams

Absolutely. My guess is it’ll be a pretty drastic change. Thanks for watching!

I’m not sure what the NCAA thought would happen when they said, “HEY! Players can get paid with zero oversight! Can’t see there being a problem, so - we’ll just offer no real rules!!! PLAY BALL!” I’m with you Joe, I’ve been screaming for there to be an NIL cap since this shit show started. Ohio State has something like a $20-$30M NIL, so they just bought their team. This isn’t how college sports is supposed to be ran. It gives an insane advantage to rich schools and leaves smaller schools on the outs forever. Such garbage. Your thoughts are spot on with the transfer stuff. UNLV kid got screwed by their NIL and if it was any different UNLV would’ve said so by now. Not sure what UNLV is thinking with this situation.

Just such a strange situation over there. I find it hard to imagine next year there isn’t a cap put in place. Thanks for watching!

If he expected a certain amount and wasn't paid then why wait until right before his red shirt would not be an option before announcing? For whatever reason I am siding with school here.

@@mikeashenfelter - if they paid him what he was promised (that’s the story we’re all getting) that $100k is .002% of UNLV’s revenue. Just pay the kid and keep the team rolling.

NIL is just the new account name for scholarship. If it cost $10,000/ semester, I can promise you $80,000 cash to attend my school. Sure you'll have too buy your own books but you won't need em anyway

Yeah I think that’s pretty accurate to be honest. Will be really interesting to see how things change in the next year or so!
