Pieces of You had so many awesome stories played through song. This and Adrian were prime examples of Jewel's storytelling talent.
My amazing wife passed away before last Christmas. This song I've known for 25 years now has a different meaning. We were actually "Gardeners", among other beautiful things. Thanks for the art, it helped and made my world brighter. We'll all meet at the end of the rainbow one day.

I haven't had that experience, so I would be lying if I said that I understand how it feels ... What I can say is that I wish you healing and love .... In all forms. What helps me most when I feel pain in my soul is to be with trees in the forest or to be creative like painting, photographing or singing. Take care!!

I cry everytime I hear this song and many of the others songs on this album. She puts so much true emotion into her music. You can truly feel it through the tune and lyrics.

I bought this CD in 8th grade (1998) and for the next three years listened to this CD at least once a day. Painters was always my favorite. I just rediscovered the CD in my stuff this week and listened to Painters for the first time since about 2000. It's just as beautiful as I remember, and now that I have my own love and family, feels even more relevant and heartbreaking.
I found my Pieces of You CD from 1998 the other day and decided to put it on in my car. I had almost forgotten about the song Painters. I used to listen to it over and over again, thinking of my future love, hoping it will be as beautiful as that song. I was in absolute tears listening to it again as I realized I really have found that kind of love. Such a beautiful song.
I thought I didn't know this song, the title was unfamiliar. Then I sang every word. My heart remembered what my brain forgot

Still my favorite Jewel song, after all these years. Thats tough to say because I have loved SO many of her songs throughout the years...but this one still manages to make me shed a tear.

I had such a huge crush on Jewel when i saw the " You were meant for me " video. I bought the album and loved it even though it was not my normal taste which is rock and metal.
me too man. It's actually really common for some reason.. I know A TON of metalheads who love Jewel. I think it's cause she has that same "raw" quality that metal often has? You can just tell her whole heart is in it :)

What're the keys/instrument during 6:32 to the end of the song. I notice some folk songs hit this key with their instrument, and I just don't know what it is, but I love it.
It's actually her guitar
She's playing what's called, harmonics, or natural harmonics. Basically, there are certain spots on the guitar strings where, if you lay your fingers gently across them when you strum, they'll resonate with a sort of higher pitched airy tone. Different than the usual, pressing the strings to the fretboard.
