    👋 beautiful.
    Do you have the pilgrim? Or James Galway?
    Im looking for a shade tolerant rose thats a large climber and continuously blooms 😊 any suggestions?
    I just started my journey with david austin roses this year.. while i do love them.. my wallet does not. The more i observe other youtubers i see.. disease.. thin floppy branches.. etc.. i see youre expanding to kordes, meiland, and others.. any recommendations from those?
    Thanks.. aton!😊

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Ann, yes I have both pilgrim and James Galway. Pilgrim unfortunately hasn’t performed well for me, not its fault of course. It’s in a very tight spot competing with other plants. James Galway has been In My garden just over a year in a shaded spot. His blooms are unique and beautiful but shatters too quickly and same goes for Generous gardener. I would say strawberry Hill might be you best choice as she performs well in the shade and has an amazing scent.
      Great to see another rose enthusiast, it’s such an addictive passion. I’ve always love Da roses from day one. The beauty of David Austin and fragrance is unmatched . Only downside to da roses is that they can be difficult to keep healthy and the flowers don’t last very long, hence i have been looking at other breeders such as kordes , Meiland ect….
      Although Meiland flowers aren’t as pretty as DA or others, but for me they have stood out the most, the fragrance is the best and blooms last longer than all other breeders.
      So my advice to you Ann would be to start with a few David Austin as they are one of the most expensive but also consider other roses the other breeders, don’t make the mistake I made when I first started. Good luck

      Ps. Gertrude jykell is a very good climber with gorgeous fragrance and repeats very well but very thorny. will need full sun ☀️ unfortunately

      @kenvoong5977 Thankyou much for a quick and thorough response😊
      Gertrude jekyll was the first one I bought this year and she is in a huge pot with maybe 6 hours of sun a day ATM, she was doing really good but has been taking a break for awhile now as it was really hot, she was definitely growing in the process though, i hope she blooms alittle more in the years to come.. I have her, Scepter'd Isle, Princess Alexandra, and an Eden climber.
      I love all sorts of plants! But roses have different spots in my heart nowadays ❤️
      I hope to have a beautiful collection one day. I didn't know one person could watch as many videos on TH-cam about roses..
      Thanks again, love your videos :) 🧡

      @annbrodzinski5707 yes watching TH-cam makes matters worse. I have princess Alexandra( my favourite), sceptre and climbing Eden all are fantastic roses. Eden is bred by Meiland, her blooms are one of the most beautiful and long lasting.

    Hi Ken, Roses are looking wonderful. You have some very nice pots too. I am very impressed with your knowledge about your roses. I have a job just remembering the names of mine. You have a great sense of humour. I was wondering what age is classed as old. I'm 64 now and when I was in my early 20's, anyone over 30 seemed ancient. I've changed my mind about that!

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahah.. Hi Wendy, I’m far from having enough knowledge about roses and often embarrassed for all the miss information I’m giving to viewers.
      Good looking pots are often so expensive in uk, I was fortunate enough to find a fairly cheap looking and big enough pots for all my roses.
      My voice sounds like someone in their seventies. Although not quite but for sure ancient in many youngsters eyes.

    Whilst I love DA roses, they are expensive, usually very good. However, I have several in my tough garden, and despite tlc, they slowly wane over the years, with one exception: Sweet Julliette, one the the roses that they use for breeding for scent - vigorous, thorny, disease free, magnificently floriferous, puts up many new shoots every year. And don't overlook many other rose breeders with some fine roses.
    And then there's the topic of taking rose cuttings, for another day, a lifetime hobby.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi yes I do agree with you the amount of tlc required to maintain a healthy Da rose and often a challenge, but they are the most beautiful in my opinion. I have taken a Lots of cuttings this year not sure what I’ll do with them. I just wish I had more room

    Beautiful roses Ken, all in bloom so wonderful to see this morning as it's pouring it down with rain here, very windy and not much chance of me getting out into the garden. I have some winter bedding to pot up in the potting shed that will keep me busy and dry !! It really is very wet here today :( Your voice is great and age is just a number. I'm a lot older than you and recently we had roofers working here and they said are you on holiday from work this week and I said no I'm retired and they all nearly fell off the roof 🤣They thought I was in my 40's I must make great coffees ! That happens to me all the time so don't you worry about your lovely young voice you sound just great as you are. Your garden is looking so colourful and the roses are all in great health too such a credit to all your hard work. Thanks for the tour really enjoyed it 🌹

  • @hameratahir

    How many hours of sun on average do these get? Will.they survive with no sun at all? I have an area that is bright and open but it's north facing so gets no sun. Thanks

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These ones get around 3-4 hours of sun on a nice day which is minimal they need to thrive. All roses needs sun , I don’t think that area will be good for any rose as they will at least few hours of direct sunlight . Certain varieties does prefer partial shade. So the answer to your question would be not ideal, of course you can always give it a try. 🙏

I’m so like you just keep buying more even though there is no more room even though I’ve bought another 16 on top of what I already have. Really looking forward to how my new ones flower later in the year. How many DA variety do you have ?

      @davenadainton4209 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kenvoong5977 bought another 16? 😄. Ken you've made me laugh! I've squeezed another 4 in during bare root season and I'm still tempted to get another 2 ha ha. I have a very exposed garden and the wind gets them all the time but somehow they come through OK. The generous gardener has the most shelter on a wall but still manages to come off worse so I've reduced it by half this year. Its quite a monster, even though it only has 2 canes for me. I bet it will throw up a 1000 new canes now that I've pruned it hard this year lol. I have about 30 roses , most are david austin. I can't help bringing some home every year when I visit the gardens. And then of course there's bare root season which is tempting as well. I cant wait for your videos this year Ken, especially now you have more! Happy gardening
