i knew that "mutt" derives from Mutter, that in german means mum, and that name was due to the fact that the urinal in its new position had a shape that reminded the women lower body part :)

@@littlearttalks HI - love your information! Thank you. "R. Mutt" also = the German word "Armut", poverty. Probably closer to the artist's intent than "Mutti", mom. Maybe the artist's idea was ok for the time, WWI and all that. Certainly traumatic and horrid enough to destroy all one's faith in civilization. After a century of European triumphalism. Ah, progress!

She appears to have confused this relatively minor exhibition with the Armory Show of a few years earlier, in which Duchamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase" was the success de scandale.

Duchamp was a shitposter before it was cool.

Every time I see your videos I feel we should be friends :)
I don’t know why I feel contradicted with the “non-functional” part of a readymade.
Is it mandatory to loose it’s functional part in order to be a readymade?

Change history? It was almost completely unknown until the 1964 edition.

Personally, I don't think it is art. Then again, my definition of art is different from most people's definition. My definition of art is anything that believe is art. The key question is who you are talking about. Your definition of art could be completely different than my definition.

Interesting. But it destroyed the whole concept of art. Now you can call anything art. In fact the art world has become the world's most pompous and insane crowd of fools, and this is partly to blame. From Rembrandt to urinals..
