Time for a bit of a more serious, yet still happy TL;DR: what do we do to beat the blues? How do we stay positive when things aren't going well? We're outside on a lovely Cherry Blossom day with the full Eatyourkimchi Crew talking about our tips for this week's TL;DR!

When I'm overwhelmed (like I am right now) with school work and exams, I like to make lists. First, I write down everything I have to do, in no particular order. Then I prioritize it, and re-write the list in order. Sometimes I'll give myself deadlines for some of the items.
When there's too much going on, it can get really stressful, so a list reminds you to just take one step at a time. Don't try to work on everything at the same time, just one at a time.
And eat something sweet and yummy!

I do the same thing! Making lists helps me to calm down.

its something that i started to do recently

Me. I do a list. With deadlines. I don't respect the deadlines. I get stressed out when I run out of time. So I make a new list. I don't respect it. I stress out. I wanna kill myself. I cry in the corner of my room.

Maybe try breaking your tasks into very tiny ones. And sprinkle those tiny tasks with some rewards like taking a coffee/tea break or going for a 15 minute walk. There's so much more to life than just school or work or completing jobs. Take a deep breath. Step back from what is causing you the stress for a bit (even if it means quitting a job or taking some time off school). You have value, and you deserve to take the time you need to feel ok again. Please call someone if you need to talk.

That's why electronic calendars just don't seem to work for me, too. I have a cute cupcake planner that's exactly the same like the one Martina has and now I'm definitely going to use it for university this Sept. It feels good and less burdening when I see all these cute and pretty decorations here and there on the calendar but I still know I have to get my work done. Another way I stay positive is laughing off the stress by watching a funny variety show, "Running Man" is my favorite remedy.

I think usually when I am down it's because I am not getting out. I'm a really difficult to motivate person, but when I am motivated I am SUPER motivated. So, I think for me, I just have to kickstart things and force myself to get outside and get exercise. I think keeping myself busy and not giving myself too much "me time" is definitely the way to keep out the blues. (Sounds like the opposite of a lot of people here.)

I'm usually stressed about time as well. I keep piling up tasks that I have to do (exams this day and projects that day and event next week etc,) and over stress myself. To solve this problem I also give myself rewards (watch ten minutes of a kdrama for every two pages I type, if I finish this chapter/stay focused for 20 minutes I can have a snack) or challenges to complete that help keep me motivated.
I find that I waste time complaining about my tasks when I could be using the time to finish it. I think "aw man I have this huge report due in three days", but when I think about how much work I really have to do, its much easier (I've already finished the first section, and I have the outline for the next, so theres not as much as I make myself believe).
Setting goals for yourself is a great stress reliever for me, not only because I can split up the work and feel less overwhelmed, but also because I feel proud afterwards and it helps me the next day when I feel stressed again (I think, "yesterday I finished my notes so today studying will be much easier).
I hope this helps someone who may be stressed as well (oh my god this comment is so long and ejjsjfjsjjznfj brownie points to anyone who actually read all this)
P.S, Superkid is my favourite flavour too :)

This is the reason why I got into Kpop, Kdramas/Variety shows. Whenever I'm stressed or annoyed I like to relax and watch my favorite k dramas and shows or jam to my favorite kpop songs or any good song I like (I think Happy by Pharrell Is a great stress reliever song). When I watched Answer Me 1994 and watch Running Man those shows made me forget how stressed or annoyed I was and made me feel good. I feel that sometimes friends can be a good stress reliever, but let's say you are just completely overtaken by your stress, I want to stay away from them and rather watch happy shows that make me laugh so I avoid passing on my stress to them.

I was treated for anxiety/depression last year when I returned to work after having my son, and the therapist I worked with gave me an idea that I'm still using. I call it my "takeaway" (which always confuses people because they think I mean a take out box), and the idea is that when you're starting to feel overwhelmed or upset by everything going on, you give yourself five minutes to "take yourself away" from what's bothering you. For me, that five minutes is usually get up from my desk and move around, or treat myself to some chocolate. After that, I usually am calmed down enough that I can go back to the task that felt so daunting before.

  • @evildesu
    @evildesu 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

HONESTLY, when I'm having a bad day, I come and watch your videos because all your quirkiness and jokes, good and cheesy, cheer me right up and make me laugh! I watch a lot of youtubers and I go on youtube to cheer up. To stay positive I think of what I'm getting out of it; for example I'm currently in college and I HATE my lecturer, I HATE the course but I'm almost finished and I will get a diploma at the end which will lead to better things. I got declined by University, but when I eventually do go to University I will be older, wiser and I will have more life experience and I will most likely appreciate it more.

Also, I like to seek help, or a bit of cheering up, from my fantastic friends to increase my happiness. Lastly, it is REALLY good to be able to count your blessings instead of focusing on only the negatives that can only further bring you down.

  • @CuteKitten321
    @CuteKitten321 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I'm sort of a weirdo.
I used to be really sad and alone when I was younger and listening to sad/emo music or finding people with the same problems made me feel better because I felt less alone.
I'm also weird because I'm really happy today because I expect the world to be really mean and evil. So I can enjoy everything that isn't and not be surprised or upset when something bad happens.
It makes no sense, I know. However, that's how things have worked for me.

Whenever I feel very frustrated or upset, I sleep. I don't know what it really does, but when I wake up, I feel refreshed and ready to complete the task at hand. If I don't have the time to sleep, I would usually rewatch some of your videos, like the old WANKs and Kpop Music Mondays. The funniness couteracts my grumpy feels and gives me a break from all the negative things that I might feel that day.

Ahhhhhhh! You answered my question!!! I LOVE you guys! Great video! I'm definitely going to use your advise. I'm a collector of kawaii stickers so now this gives me a great excuse to buy a cute scheduler kinda book. I never did cuz I thought I could just use my phone. I think you're totally right about the visual cues. Love the idea of balancing one negative with two positives too. It's finally spring here so I loved the outdoorsy ideas too and everything you said really. (I do wear or use little things from those I love too) So happy right now. :-)
I hope you come to the g.t.a soon so I can say hi and bring you some nice charms I make. Hugs from Oakville Ontario.

This is a really meaningful TLDR. Thanks EYK crew. My dog was 5 years old when she passed. It's almost been a year and even though I'm letting time heal everything I have more blue days then I did when she was still alive. On top of that University professors are throwing lots of school work at me even during Spring Break! Feeling overwhelmed by everything, but I'll try some of the approaches you guys recommended. Thanks again EYK!

As much as Simon's idea sounds funny, I think it's super important not to take things for granted, and stopping to think about them for a moment usually makes me feel better not only in that moment, but next time I don't have that thing anymore-because at least I appreciated it while I had it.

To feel less overwhelmed about stuff I do what Martina says about organizing yourself with a diary or agenda and decorating it. I also like to relieve stress by watching "The Impractical Jokers" and listening to K-Pop (it always helps to improve my mood). I don't do it when I'm studying though because I feel that it's hard to concentrate and I start to feel guilty so I rather listen to jazz in a low volume so I can work peacefully.

  • @Jojojjn8
    @Jojojjn8 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I usually do 2 things to lift up my spirits.....
    1. I try to think of the meaning of life and what I am doing on this earth. I then end up realizing how small I am and think that maybe me being 1 less negative person in this world would help or that I have a whole life ahead of me (I hope) and I don't want to look back on my life later regretting a lot of things so I end up changing my mood for the better.
    2. I go on the internet and watch a k-drama. I live through them (can be looked down as sad but it makes me feel better :D) and when I see them happy I become happy. same goes if I were to be around people. If I see them happy, I'm then also happy. I don't want people to be depressed as me so I try to make them happy and in turn I also end up making myself happy. XD

I deal with depression a lot and whenever I'm depressed and I just can't function or concentrate on what I'm supposed to do I will most likely just take a nap or just lay down in a room as dark as I can get it and have it as quiet as I can get it and just lay there for like 30 minutes staring into the darkness until I fall asleep or I decide I can do stuff again.

I work in an ice cream shop where we mix the ice cream on a cold stone. this is relevant. When I get grumpy, I like to make bread by hand, and imagine I'm smushing up whatever thing is making me grumpy. If I'm at work and someone's being really rude to me, I take the hardest ice cream out of the cabinet and smush it up on the stone until I feel better. smushing things is productive!

Usually when I'm stressed out or really feeling blue, I'll just blast the music out loud and dance to it. If not that, I'll listen to upbeat songs. It really helps me to bring up my mood a lot.

Disclaimer: I know this sounds cheesy.
When I'm having a terrible day, I watch Eat Your Kimchi. Seeing you guys always being so happy and going on great adventures, I'm able to look forward to my own future.
I'm moving out of my house this week, and my mom was really upset with me for wanting to move away. Then my glasses broke, and I was assigned a huge paper in my classes at school. To top it all off, my car has been in the shop and I've had to work extra this week. I'm a bit stressed, but watching the EYK crew really helped me feel better. This video came at just the right time.
I'm proud to be a Nasty! You guys stay excellent.
Hopefully one day I'll get to meet you and tell you just how much you've helped me.
    Thanks, guys.

Whenever I'm piled with work or assignments, I would go to sea piers and listen to the breeze blowing through my ears. Somehow, that sound made just takes me to Utopia, and it's kind of nice to escape a little. I almost always feel 100% again after that!

Hey Simon and Martina, I'm very curious about the public transportation system in South Korea. There's a documentary I once saw in the discovery channel says that South Korea has the most neat and organized public transportation system in the world. But all they did was just talking and math problems that I couldn't understand (very honest confession of a non-engineering basis student here) without actually showing the real daily lives of people who uses this system everyday. I'm very interested in coming to South Korea. Can you give us the in depth of the system?
    Much much love from Malaysia.

I often draw in my sketchbook while zoning out to music, take nature walks, or play video games to de-stress. Sometimes allowing myself to have a good cry actually helps release pent up negative energy (and I tend to laugh at my sissy self afterward). Last week when I was miserably sick I watched a bunch of your videos and they definitely kept me positive :3

Great advice all around guys. I don't understand how you guys get any haters at all, you're so chill and down to earth and shit but, I guess that's the internet for you. I play videogames when I get upset, nothing like taking out your frustration by pwning n00bs.

Hahaha, it depends on the game really. Try picking up something more relaxing like Dust or a puzzle game, there's a game out there for everyone.

I so agree with the focusing on good things or a future fun plan. I used to teach high school and if something negative happened at the end of the day I totally forgot about the earlier part of the day which was pretty great. I had to scold myself.
Another thing I would do (and should start doing again) is be a bright spot in someone else's day. Look for opportunities to be that good thing for someone else. It brightens both your outlooks.

I heard that North Korea attacked South Korea recently and South Korea and the USA army fired back. But I also remembered thatnin one of you TL;DRs you mentioned how some Koreans do not like Americans that much because of the American base there. But what do you think they think when it comes for protection? Like I know they might not want some foreifn land in their homeland but don't you guys think having and American base there is helpful? I would love to hear an answer from awesome people like you guys! And maybe the viewpoint of your interns!

When I have a stressful day at work or school, I like to go out with friends and enjoy some downtime. We have a huge park here in Amsterdam (Vondelpark) and I love to go there with friends, have a picknick, joke around and enjoy the sunshine. I also like to sit outside when the weather is nice, have a glass of wine and watch movies

To stay positive I often do what Soozee said and take a walk and get some fresh air so I can have some time to relax and get happy vibes from other people just enjoying life. I also make lists so when I cross off the things that I've done, I feel relieved. My more odd one though is I'll wash dishes which isn't always fun but it brings me an unexpected amount of clarity. I love the ideas you guys gave in this video, I'm going to try them all.

if im in a really bad mood, and even just like grumpy shitty, everything's pissing me off, kind of mood, watching a horror movie is the best way to snap out of it for me, srsly after being scared over a movie u kinda just snap out of it and then ur like, ah my day could be so much more worse, i could have some demon after me and kill me but that's not happening so yaaaayyy! lol

First step for me is to accept that it is okay to feel sad or down or grumpy (or whatever else). I do not need to add shame to that feeling and I especially should not ignore it! Then, I find that if I pick one thing out of my day to feel grateful for, I feel even just a tad bit better. I may still feel sad, but at least I've stepped one foot out of that pit. This method was crazy helpful for when I was going through university and dealing with grief. Feeling grateful for even the smallest of things, like the sun peeking out of the clouds, was so good!

One of the way that helps me stay positive (or at least try to stay positive) is watching your videos. I know it sounds cheesy but you guys are so fun and upbeat. Another way is to think about an upcoming trip. And when I feel down because of a class that I feel is just a big mess, doing work regarding a class that involves a lot of logic makes me feel better. And that sounded nerdy...
