- In the spirit of introducing this movie and soundtrack to a younger generation, after 27 years I finally had the nerve to edit and perhaps compile a more compact version of the soundtrack.
To me, this soundtrack is the holy grail of soundtracks and regardless of how many days I spend trying to form an alternative synergy, it never felt complete. This is the 3rd out of 4 versions I compiled and I'm pretty sure you could shuffle the tracks a dozen different ways and still come up with a different tone or feeling every time. This 3rd attempt is as close to the original as I could keep it, opting for the same order in which the tracks appear on album save for one.
Other versions include a more action packed approach, a focus on longer low volume ambient sections in hopes of making it more repeat friendly and the first one isn't even worth mentioning.
Regardless, even after all these years I gravely underestimated how difficult it would be to do well. A testament to Patrick O'hearn's genius. Things that didn't work include: a high focus on stringing together the low volume sections, cutting too many ambient parts away or re-ordering the tracks in a way that keeps the lower and louder ones opposite from each other.
As if there's a balance which gets disrupted as soon as you even think about touching anything.
