  • The COVID-19 pandemic exposed and further exacerbated the issues facing migrants and asylum seekers in immigration detention. From completely inadequate medical care, unlivable conditions of confinement, and laws designed to ensure deportation, migrants and asylum seekers face a myriad of barriers when trying to seek refuge in the United States. This panel provides an overview of the current state of immigration detention during the pandemic and suggests movement lawyering strategies to address systemic issues facing our immigration system.
