Many people have asked about the difference between raga chhayanat and chaya-the primary difference is that nishad is varjit in the aroha of Chaya-SR RGMPDDP S and the avrohan is SNDP MPRGMP GMRS RS, what is common in both are the P-->R phrases and the greater use of P-->S in Chhayanat as opposed to Chaya. In any case Buddha da's taankaari and layakaari in ekhara are unbelievable and stunning in their majesty. This is literally my Anthem!!
This is most probably from the CD published by Indian Archives Music, Ny, 1999- the Tabla aritiste being Samir Chatterjee.-- one of Buddhadev's very best CHHAYA !
If i compare this recital with the famous Chhayanat bandish Jhana Nana Baje Bichhwa using an extreme layman's ears, I can recognize the Jhana Nana Nana part, while the subsequent Baje Bichhwa part is missing or subdued. Probably that is where Chhayanat and Chhaya divert away?

No words can describe Panditji's mastery... such a perfect blend between lyricism and power of rythmic intricacies... we will miss him

What is the difference between Chayanat and Chaya? I don't see any obvious difference.
It's very subtle.
But differences are certainly there.
Chaya has no Komal Nishad, as had been said to me by Pt. Dasgupta
