This video teaches you about cross contours and how to use them to construct and analyze objects to make your drawings look three dimensional! It also includes a fun exercise to practice drawing three dimensional shapes.
Cross contouring is very difficult for to me understand. I could not tell the difference or intention of the lines-UNTIL this video! I was so excited when I realized it clicked for me! Thank you!!!!
I'm truly a beginner at drawing. Last week I drew for different things with cross contour lines. Following a video. I'm so happy to see how it actually works. Thank you for explaining it and showing in this way. I'm going to share this video on Pinterest. I hope it helps your Channel.❤
Very good video. I'm close to fully understand the principle of cross contour lines now. A question however: Are there any rules regarding the cross contour lines? Should the lines on a rounded object like an apple or an ellipse be bent like the contour lines are, or can you for instansce make a straigth line on an ellipse and still consider it a cross contour line? Or diagonal lines on a cyllinder? Is it a rule that the cross contour lines should conform to the way the outer contour lines are drawn eg. a vertical line on a cylinder should be bent like the vertical contour line is?
Good questions. A contour line must conform to the surface. So a curved surface will have a curved line , a flat surface will have a straight line. If you put a straight line over a curved surface, that would be more like a planar line, not cross contour. And yes, the outer contour will give clues to how the cross contours will be. Hope that helps :)
I've watched almost every video on cross contour lines and this is the one that finally made it clearer to me.. Thank you so much
That’s wonderful to hear, I’m so happy the video connected. Thanks for letting me know and have fun with your cross contours!
Exactly 😌

That’s wonderful to hear! I’m happy it clicked for you, cross contours can be a lot of fun they make sense :). Thanks for taking the time to comment!
it's fascinating how cross contours changed random shapes into 3D objects
I agree Shatila! It’s fun to make a random blob and then turn it into 3 dimensions.
Thank you! I’ve learned so much, you have a great way of explaining it simply and clearly.

Many thanks, happy it is helpful to you :)
AWESOME VIDEO . Just learned about why the spacing between the contours matters to hold up the illusion
Thank you! Happy you enjoyed it and it helped. I love this exercise, it’s so fun to make random shapes look 3D just with contours!!
Took me a couple times to understand that xyz thing. I figured it out after reviewing the square notes I took. Thank you!
Glad it makes sense now! This video does a deep dive on X,Y,Z to refresh you too :)

Super good explanation of contour lines! Simple and easy to understand!
Glad to hear that! Thanks for taking the time to send me a note :)
@@DrawshStudio You should do a video on foreshortening shapes since that confuses me!
Thanks, that’s a great topic. I will put it on a future video list :)

Nice lesson

The shape at 1.39 is pointing towards the left, not right.
Hmmm. I’m not sure I agree with your statement. The front plane of the form is facing to our right, meaning we see the left side.
it's magic
Who doesn’t like a little magic?
Helo! What books and other studies can we have for a better understanding of this subject besides you? How can I get more about it!
I really like the book “rapid viz”. Also Cura Studios has a wonderful TH-cam channel and content. artisapractice.com
