  • Part one of this two part Leachianus Gecko video (or Leachies or New Caledonian Giant Geckos) explores life in the wild of the most well know of all the reptiles (other than maybe crested geckos) in New Caledonia. We start off on Ilot Brosse, then explore Isle Moro where I film what may be a male leachie guarding a fresh laid leachie nest for the first time ever in the wild! So come with me as I look into what Leachies are doing in the wild, and how that can better help us in how we keep the amazing lizards!
NOTE: Keep in mind that the discoveries presented in this video is not scientifically bound and represents only an immediate reaction of the people involved. Further work in the field is needed to determine the facts.

Their camouflage is near perfect! You could easily miss one unless you're right up close to it!
It's really interesting how the male watches the nest! Great insight into their behavior!

More awesome stuff Dãv! The thing that I’ve noticed in this series is just how bright New Caledonia can be. I always endeavour to provide UVB to all of my animals, but looking at this I think that it’s a factor that needs propelling into the main stream even more than it has been already.
