Oh my god Lorelai was so manipulative with Luke, it's his diner for god sake! And doesn't she has a functional kitchen at her own home? We actually have seen people cooking there.

Because Luke wouldn't immediately help, when he can and wasn't happy to help even when he wasn't asked. And how could Lorelai make room for a dozen people in her own home? Times are harsh, Luke is a really good and helpful friend with a big diner. It was her best option
