There were settlements of native inhabitants of the area of London long before the arrival of the Romans, dating back to at least the Bronze Age (circa 1500 BCE). This was not insignificant, there was even a bridge to cross the Thames. (edited typo).

Every time I see a picture of London with the hideous Walkie Talkie building, that revolting carbuncle on the face of such a beautiful and historic city, I want to weep.
Go up into the Walkie Talkie building and visit the Sky Gardens (free, although you need to pre-book) and you may change your mind. The sub-tropical fully enclosed gardens are delightful and the 360 degree views of London, as you can walk around all 4 sides of the building, are spectacular. You can also dine at a very good restaurant within the Sky Gardens and then enjoy a walk around the gardens afterwards. It really is a treat. Looking down directly onto the 1,000 year old Tower of London is a wonderful juxtaposition of the old and the new.
@@gdok6088 Looking at the Walkie Talkie from the Tower...in fact anywhere...is less than a visual treat. The building needn't be so ugly outside to achieve something beautiful inside and I'm not up for endorsing the building by adding to its visitor numbers. It has marred London and making the 'sky garden' free to try and placate public opinion about its hideousness will not transform it into something beautiful. I'd rather it was just another generic glass box, as beauty is too high a hope it seems, than the ugly splodge that it actually is. At least the Gherkin and the Shard have unique and elegant form, however the hideous Cheesegrater/s have detracted somewhat. I'm disgusted at the planners, the architects and the commissioners. I sincerely hope that being able to work from home will discourage any more building of super hideous offices like these and developers just might start focussing more on enhancing the city and not destroying it. Every generation should have the opportunity to tell it's own architectural story for domestic and commercial building. I'm not against modern architecture or innovation. I do however believe it needs to be appropriate and sympathetic to its wider environment and historic context. It should add to and enhance the environment around it, not destroy and overwhelm it. The Great Court at the British Museum, the Pyramids at the Louvre...both excellent examples of modern design and technical innovation to enhance the building and environment.

Depends what you mean by “native born”. You missed one crucial point. Why is London where it is? I'll help you. Originally it was a ford. An easy place to cross the Thames. Everything else followed on from that.
Yep. Try googling ''invented by Londoners''. I did and 7 out of 10 weren't even Londoners, like Sir Humphrey Davey who was from Penzance, God knows how they try to claim him. The only invention from London, invented by a Londoner that I remember reading about, was the penny slot public toilet. Not the toilet, or the public toilet even (the Romans had those), and not the mechanism for the penny slot/lock (which was probably made in the Midlands or the North) but the idea of charging people for calls of nature was invented by a Londoner. Says a lot.
As a Londoner, that's an interesting point. You might well be right. It might also be why there's so much resentment of London from other major English cities. By the way, you forgot Birmingham.

@@Bedic-Magin 2024 there are 86 more dangerous cities. In 2023 there were 127 more dangerous cities. In 2022 there were 134 more dangerous cities.
Would you look at that? It is becoming more and more dangerous more than any other city in the world at the quickest rate… I wonder if that is because of the local English people or all of the boat people.

I've always wondered how past kings and queens have been able to uphold and exceed England's incredible value. I think Medieval era of England achieved the greatest feat compared to all Tudors, Victorians and Norman era. England being unified by Athelstan to me is the most pivotal part of its history.
This TH-cam was short but very informative. Thank you.
There were settlements of native inhabitants of the area of London long before the arrival of the Romans, dating back to at least the Bronze Age (circa 1500 BCE). This was not insignificant, there was even a bridge to cross the Thames. (edited typo).
That's not the point of this video.
Also in WW2 london made the first inter-computer transmission thanks to Alan Turing
Er.. no. There was no computer in london during WW2. Alan Turing worked at Bletchley Park, some 40 miles outside London. Thats where the computer was, and in the war they only had the one. So intercomputer transmission was not possible.
The World Series really represents the world because there is Freeman and Ohtani, while every country has a capital city.
@@gdok6088 The subtropical gardens though could have easily been made outdoors based off the plants they used in there.
They won't be there for long .........

Depends what you mean by “native born”. You say “white”, but skin colour is fairly meaningless and isn’t a good way to distinguish between Dutch Anglo Saxons Vikings Briton Normans Jews Irish and all the other types of people mentioned. Even if you want to focus on skin colour there is evidence of at least some black people in Tudor times. And also appearances of black characters in Shakespeare’s plays.

I liked it more before it was invaded.
It also makes it a full on troublesome place .
Too many cultures fighting each other , dealing drugs ,sex trades, theft, rape ,murders.
This place is almost lawless ,dirty ,poverty stricken and everything is extremely overpriced.
hasnt changed much in the last two hundred years then

As long as the Anglosphere exists, London will have a high position of power in the world, even if Britain itself is a bit of a mess, like it is currently. Luckily for London, the Anglosphere is pretty solid and has some serious advantages, despite the naysayers.

Says a lot.
