I imagine this card would work great in a Linux system, since you literally don't need to search for drivers, and you could use FSR to upscale any game. But that's a whole can of worms:) Thanks for the video. Here in Russia I could only find 2 of these for 100$ and 190$! You guys are so lucky to have them for such great prices!
Yeah, with the low head room of Linux, it might be not too bad. I was hoping it would be cheaper or as cheap in other countries, but yeah. I guess not many of these cards made it over to Russia, or most of eastern Europe for that matter. Regardless, I am glad you enjoyed the video!
It's surprising to see a card hold up this well for such a low price point Honestly I think most people who would get this card would use it for indie titles imo Great video too btw lul
iirc this is a workstation equivalent to the R7 260, binned, downclocked to fit in workstations and run multi monitor setups. often, these drivers are not generic from AMD but customized by the AIB for the workstation system integrator (so Dell or HP, et c would have the correct driver for the OEM part number). fun fact: some of these cards are "unlocked" and can be overclocked, and often are very good overclockers if you change the cooling solution. most are "locked" though and will not allow clock adjustments.
You are exactly correct, it is a much more barebones R7 260 , just with 4GB of VRAM. (Also I like how you called it binned lol) And honestly if I can get my hands on all sorts of different drivers that pair with this GPU, I'll do a revisit looking at it's performance along with some overclocking even. Seems like this card is more than meets the eye.
@@ImNotPeso R9 360 OEM is also a rebrand of R7 260, but has higher memory clocks and runs cooler than the Bonaire desktop chip (Tobago was popular with OEM for power optimization since under 300W PSU was very common. it has no PCIE input is the big advantage i think. it was mostly an HP card, very rare to see a Dell version. a better cheap card will be WX4100 Baffin based GPU because it will have 1024 shaders vs RX 460 which is 896 and lower clocks. maybe WX5100 if you can find one for a good price but at that point just get a legit RX 470 and overclock it.
@@chazbotic thanks for the detailed reply! Mine is a Dell card, and I’m limited by no supplemental power cables (unless i go janky and use sata to 6 pin). I’ll have a look at your suggestions
You’ve gotta try the buggy mess of a dual monitor setup I’ve got. I run a Radeon pro wx3100 as my main card, but I run the video ports through my gt 730. It’s pure chaos getting those two to work in tandem
It's honestly quite amazing the performance of this card nowadays. It has plenty of vram for its power and if the drivers weren't so difficult to install, it would be a great bargain of a card. At the beginning of the year I bought an R9 270 (non x) for 20€ and it's still a pretty capable card even though I either used it as a backup or in an office PC. This card has the benefit of requiring only one 6pin and it doesn't consume more than 100W usually so even the 360W PSU of that PC is fine as it natively has a 6pin connection. The R9 270 is probably a bit stronger that this video's card. If you come across some better drivers (or even some that allow overclocking ) I would be interested to see a "revisit".
The R9 270 is a solid budget card, I agree. I reviewed its power compared to the GT 1030 a couple of videos ago. And 100% I will definitely consider revisiting this card if I can get to overclock it a little or something along those lines.
Look into the WX 4100. Uses 50W has 4GB of VRAM can be found for about £60 that I do think is over priced for the card but in the US probably a lot easier to find and cheaper. Ideal if you have a SFF system that has PCIe 3.0.
I knew I was going to get one detail wrong as per usual lol. I appreciate you pointing out since I knew I missed something, I don't know why I said Kepler. And as for your second question. Typically yes. Most of the time I was able to do so, with the only game not letting me do this being Call of Duty. It honestly really helps this GPU out since it isn't the highest frame rate, but to the very least you can get a console like experience, albeit a PS4 console like experience lol.
I have the HP OEM RX 460 as well as the EVGA variant. HP's is noticeably worse, thanks to the 8X interface. I'll never understand why it has that, but physically only fits in a 16X slot.
I had to triple take and keep going back to 1:37 when you put the text "GT 1030 was Kepler". A bit of research later and well it's true but not the whole picture. The early GDDR5 GT 1030s are Pascal (GP108 based) and the same was true for the later DDR4 version. But Nvidia being Nvidia and rebanding things without telling people struck again and made a Kepler GK107 based GT 1030 after the DDR4 version which is likely why you got that the GT 1030 was Kepler. Performance wise they are ranked: 1) GT 1030 (GP108) GDDR5 [best] 2) GT 1030 (GP108) DDR4 3) GT 1030 (GK107) GDDR5 [worst] Addendum: The GK107 GT 1030 also has a 65w TDP which was funny as it performed worse while using double the power. At this point integrated graphics destroys the GT 1030s so they're not that great and only makes sense for older pcs and/or as a display out card to get hdmi and more modern video ports.
I don't have a link for them per se, but I might make a link if enough people ask for it so that people can manually download the driver and not sit for 8 hours like did. So, give me a day and I will probably update the description with the driver in there lol.
good to see that the gpu can run games however it is rival to quadro k2000 (if my memory is correct) both gpus were meant for graphic work and rendering stuff not exactly meant for gaming
Since this is a GCN 2.0 Card, there should be custom drivers available for it. Might be worth checking'em out.
Oh really? Maybe I will revisit in the future if that is the case. Thanks for the heads up

what a nice gpu for ultra budget build:)
If you willing to do some compromise though.

How does this compare to the R9 360, another OEM card? I’ve been looking for a while to see if there’s any cheap cards that are better than it.

@@BudgetBin i had to reinstall windows twice to get it to work. it was cheap yes, but when you don't have an igpu it makes it 5x worse

Wow, that works surprisingly well!
I know right?
Nice !!
And maybe, this card would be good to test in the "Word of Warships/Tanks' kind of games ?
I'm certain it runs great with those games at some decent settings!
Wdym 1030 is kepler? It's Pascal.
Great video, high quality. Btw, was it able to saturate its 4GB vram in games?

there technically is a Kepler version of the GT 1030 apparently, the GT 1030 GK107
