    I’ve had success using a Brad point drill bit to remove filler from counter sunk Phillips head bronze screws. The point of the bit centers itself nicely in the fastener head without damage.

    Wonder if a heat gun would remove both varnish and epoxy using gentle scraping. By the way, we owned a 14 ft Wagemaker Wolverine back in the 60's and early 70's but it was strip planked cedar with canvas over the planking below the spray rail down to the keel,. Plenty of steam bent frames. The deck was rather thin white cedar ribbon stripe vertical grain planks approximately 2" wide. There were no white lines between them.

      Paul, I have tested both stripper and heat guns to varnish and they both work great. I have not tried it with epoxy but have heard it also works. I have a future restoration that I can try that technique on because the wood underneath will be removed anyway. It will make for a nice experiment. Take care!
