Great stuff, I like everything ya got and the changes in your Zimmerbuilt. I just use a dcf 8.5□ tarp. Rain/snow and wind isn't a problem if ya setup with that in mind.. your pocket tarp is gonna kick ass. Good luck out there.
Now that you have had this tarp for a while now, would you recommend getting the tarp with the storm doors or no? Love to hear your thoughts as I am trying to decide if I want to go this route or not. Cheers
DancingTreeGaming hey hey.. maybe not. Sorry for the bad news but I’m 5’10” and I’m almost maxing out in it when laying fully outstretched. Someone as tall as you would most definitely be hitting the tarp with the foot end of your quilt/bag IF fully stretched out. But if you sleep a little scrunched up, on your side, you may be ok. Happy Trails :)
Hey y'all, I just uploaded a new video of this tarp /setup from the trail in Joshua Tree NP. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/sEjiphApWGM/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!
Nice man, I was looking into this same sorta setup for a shelter. I used the Hexamid Solo on the A.T. last year. My only concern is without storm doors will rain hit you from the front? I don’t use trekking poles so I would use the Zpacks tent pole (it’s lighter) and lower the front as much as possible. I’m very surprised you were able to raise the bathtub floor that high. Mine I could never get that high and the back side would always be at an angle not straight up and down so it didn’t work as well. I’m not sure if that had to do with how I was staking out the tent or not. What stakes are you using? And did you include them with the final weight? I used I think 6 of the lightest stakes Zpacks sells but I kept losing them on the trail. They are so hard to find 😕
Drew Blanche hey Drew, thanks! So, I use the solo PLUS size ground sheet. It’s about 4 inches wider than the regular version and still fits nicely under the tarp. That gives me the ability to lift up the front/entrance side even higher than you see in this vid. Especially when you stick a loop about 8 inches up that back wall. It all works to close the bathtub around you more and should help quite a bit with rain spray. When I get more use out of it (soon) I’ll post another vid from the field with more detail. As far as stakes go, I use simple titanium shepherd hooks for everything except the front line. I use an Easton aluminum peg for that. You can get the Tito shepherd hooks on Amazon or at Vargo. Mine are a mix of both. I carry 8 of them and with the little dcf stuff sack they come in at 1.8oz. Thanks for watching! Cool shelter setup put a bungee on the rear of my cuben Bearpaw with the zpacks solo floor for summer use
Subbed just to see the follow up of when you use it on trail! Definitely curious to see how you fit in it/the livability of this setup
