A couple of dumb questions - what is a blind box and also it looks like you only turn in a small portion of the ribs that you cooked? What happens to the rest of them 😃
Blind box is what contestants put their food in for the judges to score on taste tenderness and appearance. Also the judges don't know what food from the competitors their eating from. The rest probably goes to everyone who comes to their space and asks for a bite.Their pretty generous of that.
@@ArielK1987 Exactly. You want to pick your best ribs out of the slabs you cook, and that's what you turn in for judges. The rest goes to family and friends. We don't let it go to waste.
I am confused...you used your competition rub and the garlic jalapeno rub..same has you did in the past and now you say its's not your usual flavor profile for competition?
The Competition and Garlic Jalapeño is my go-to combo for comps

Do the judges ever give a reason as to why whatever meat you’re presenting doesn’t make the finals?
You get a score card at the end that shows where you scored on tenderness, presentation, etc.

Do you eat carbs like pasta or pizza much or are just a apex carnivore
I try to avoid a lot of red meat to be honest. Love a good salad, pasta, anything. I know I cook a lot of BBQ videos, but you can't eat that all the time.
@@HeathRilesBBQ I don't mean to put you out none but if you could make a how to video for a salad or something that won't kill us would be nice too.
@@genosciacca1816Maybe you should watch salad chef videos for that and not hound a guy who makes barbecue for a living.
I smoked up some baby backs last night using your competition rub bought at Walmart..Wasted that money..How you won anything with that rub is beyond me..I normally use Williams Rib Tickler rub which is far superior to yours..sorry , but that is my opinion
Glad you felt the need to share. A lot of people tend to think otherwise, but everyone has their opinions and tastes. Sorry you feel that way.
@@HeathRilesBBQ It wasn't just me I cooked up two racks and one with your rub and the other with the Rib Tickler and 5 people said the same thing. the only thing I changed in the way I cooked the ribs were the rubs. No wonder JT won so many competitions using the Williams Rub. Luckily it's made in Texas and sold in some HEB's
@@davo912 Well, use what rubs you like. Not everyone is going to like it. I don't know why you felt the need to comment and say how horrible my rub is but sorry to disappoint. Very proud of the products I make. Had a lot of success with them and so have teams that compete every weekend across the country.
@@HeathRilesBBQ So you put yourself out there on You Tube and the public should only comment if its positive? I do use some of your other rubs so don't get me wrong but I was just commenting on the Competition Rub
@@davo912 I get several negative comments every single day. Doesn't phase me. Simply didn't understand why it had to be said the way you said it and pointed it out. Thanks for your opinion.
