After watching this footage, now I know why so many New England hikers section just the NH and Maine parts of the trail later in the season (NoBo or SoBo), so beautiful, cooler weather and no bugs. Thank you!
@@TheJhtlag there are tons of trails up here that you can do during leaf peeping season! It is hard to time your hike sometimes since there are so many factors that cause the color change but even if you miss peak colors by a few days or a week it is still amazing. I hiked the monadnock Sunapee Greenway Trail in October and while the colors werent perfect they were more than beautiful enough. I wish everyone could get out for a hike in New England in the fall. It is a very special thing that you will never forget. Be well and happy holidays 🙏
@@gratefulhikes Heh, heh, that was me thinking out loud and seriously, turning the logistics over in my head down here in MD, maybe work something out. We do get some nice leaves down here too. Also considering bike riding the Erie Canal etc. Looks like Kelly really timed it right here though. Doing day hikes of the AT in MD right now, seeing the empty and quiet campsites where Kelly and others passed through.
First! Got engaged on the trail and waterfall right at 2:00. Camped right on the trail. Didn't get in anyone's way. Been watching this chan for months for Kelly to get to this very spot.
What an awesome day walking through magical forests, vibrant foliage complete with a mesmerizing sunset and loon calls to fall asleep to. That's the magic of Maine!
I am so glad that you are filming this. I film all the areas I hike in and am so happy I have. We had a huge forest fire that destroy all the area. Now I have the footage to look back at to reminder the beauty.
Hey Kelly! Thank you for the 4k ❤️ It makes those amazing visuals look that much better! Pro tip: if you have an option to turn down the bit rate, 50Mbit is more than enough. This one was nearly 83Mbit! Glad you made your ferry! I have rafted the Kennebec many times and that warning about rising water is no joke. A 5000cfs release is awesome to raft (the 8000 is even better) but I wouldn’t want to canoe across it! I can’t imagine how loud that metal shelter roof is during a storm! I bet your grandpa is smiling knowing you are enjoying that view, it was a great one! Thanks for the silence at the lake. You and Toasty know how to enjoy those moments. I’m glad you got to see the sunset. I firmly believe that Maine has some of the best sunsets in the country. That lake you were looking done on was Moxie pond, which is where that rafting outfit I told you about was. You have to go there when you come back up! What a perfect day. I’m not jealous very often but this one made me feel it, and that is ok in my book! 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
One of your best days of communicating, flat trail, o stress very conversational and memorable, we appreciate sharing your days and happenings. AND the loons, stellar👍🏼
Something about crossing the Kennebec River by canoe that seems symbolic of the final drive, no going back. Had to laugh at the idea of reaching the river and yelling "Cheryl"! that's adventure. That name echos other boat crossing in classical mythology. Anyway, there are advantages to being a slobo if the weather holds out, the rhododendrons flowering in the south, and these fantastically beautiful fall colors in Maine. Great day, everyone rested, cheerful, blue skies and the trail rising to meet you.
Well, first off this is the first time I've watched your channel on my lap top as opposed to my cellphone...what stunning shots , just amazing ... The foliage really popped...so glad you had such great weather ....been a warm fall here in the North East ...happy trails ... It's just so Maine that you yell across the river to catch your ride ...
I sleep to these sounds all the time… loved this video and the ending…. Sure enough though you missed Northern Outdoors… just half mile north of Sterling … also there was a full fledged supermarket had you gone south to Bingham… oh well, Even Dixie has to envy you on this one
Beautiful fall colours on a wonderful misty morning! Being young again, these are the things I would have done. Glad to see others now out and enjoying the great outdoors! Bruce and Otis
Ya, you definitely need to come back in the spring for some WHITEWATER on the Kennebec. Some of the best memories of my life!! Quintessential Maine, Loons are the best sound on the planet!!!
After enjoying this video I am excited about section hiking it in 2022 with one, maybe two of my granddaughters. They will love the canoe ride! Stay safe. Stay well.
Thanks for your awesome videos. It has been a real pleasure following you all the. I am happy for you completing the AT! It's a huge achievement 👏. Hope you do it again. God bless.
Hi, is this really the final strech? Or do you have to do the part you skipt after this? Greetings from The Netherlands. By the way; you have my respect!
Hey kelly, i follow handstand then rocket, dixie and now you,i hope i can find some one new to follow on the appalachian trail its going to be hard.cheers
I don't understand how if you were still here in October, you made it to katahdin before it closed 🤔 I'm glad you made it, but I thought they closed first week of October 😬
Kelly, after all the beautiful scenery you’ve recorded, the night times sounds were so cool and I think my favorite part of following your journey so far. BTW….Toastie is the best and glad he’s there 😊
Thanks for all the beautiful Vistas again! I'm curious Kelly and I hope you don't mind me asking. And I'm not saying you look like it. So please don't think that. But being a dietitian I know you normally eat really healthy. So I'm curious did you gain weight on the trail eating all the junk? Thanks in advance.. wow it sounds like wolves and owls maybe some coyotes it was freaky
@@kellyhays23 WOW ok.. my dad always hiked the Greenbelt in Co. It goes all the way from downtown Denver to the foothills. So he did this daily after lunch. He was gone for about 4 hours everyday ! Then him and his brother even though they were horseback in mountains where there weren't trails. They both had hacksaws and made trails where there were none to begin with! 😆 He was always really fit too! I guess that's why he made it 98 yrs. Would have even lived longer nothing was wrong with him wasn't on ANY medications. But unfortunately he refused to get a colonoscopy at a early/any age. So prostate cancer is what killed him. I think he would have loved watching your hike💗p.s. NO need to respond I know how busy you are!😘
Hey Kelly....its your 'Pedicure' donator....Still tryn to find out What size Hoodie you wore for your Thru-Hike from App Gear?? I want to give one to a lady friend and she is 5'9"....Yours seem to be long and came down to your knees almost? How tall are you and What size to you recommend? Patiently waiting =)
Thank you so much for the pedicure donation! It was the best pedicure of my life! Lol I am 5’7 and the hoodies was an XL! I got another one that’s a size medium and it fits like a regular hoodie. Really depends on whatever style she is looking for :)
Kelly what was the date of this day? If you started April 10th and this is day 159 that would make it Sept 16th… but that can’t be right…. I assume your hospital stay is why it’s off….
Was thinking about how you almost didn’t get a chance to come back to the trail bc of your illness at the beginning. So glad you trusted Him ☝️ and gave us a great trail experience to follow. You hiked your hike and that’s always fun to watch. Have a great Christmas!

Gotta admit, I can see myself doing this, not so much the other rugged stuff.

Lake Loon calls at the end. The most awesom nature sound anyone could ever hear.

It reminds me of crossing the Styx with the boatman Charon...Cheryl carrying hiking souls to the end of their journey.
