In a surprise twist to the toy community this year, McFarlane announced a collaboration with Marvel to bring us a new line of collectibles but with a catch: ...they're posed statues. Are they worth the pickup? And should we consider the buzz around the allegations of AI art being used??

20:48 is when the AI part of the video starts, you’re welcome
👍
My hero
Thank you for save me 20 minutes
Thankyou
Thanks
I tried. I really tried. Almost 30 minutes in which you presented the same information multiple times over. Edit yourself please. Really put in the effort to make your videos more concise or provide more information, not just the same information presented 5 different ways. This video could’ve been 10-12 minutes long VERY easily.

Dark spider Davey boy is allergic to criticism so I hope your message gets through to him
I mean criticism is okay, but when it’s directed toward someone who isn’t well like this… then it’s just unfortunate :/
Yeah I stopped halfway through the vid cuz I realized lol
Ai art from one of the most fondly remembered comic artists in historys company is preposterous. Draw a fucking picture Todd???
Sadly Todd has a historial like the nft thing
They used AI to convert his old drawings to a 3d render
did like none of you actually watch the video?? He said that its a possibility and that todd himself probably didn't know. Sure he isn't blameless but he didn't do this
I initially expected the entire statues to be based on AI generated art. The way the Spider-Men are sculpted is fine, but I'm not sold given the price
With that kinda price tag, you'd think they could print them without the seams. Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but the gaps annoy me.
How does this man drag out a 30 min video for some statues
It's a really good review tho.
His voice is mesmerizing...
And how does it have 40k views
The irony is McFarlane could never create an articulated figure that could recreate the poses he’s famous for.
No American company can. You get Japanese imports for that
I’ve never had problems getting a McFarlane figure into a pose like that and I’m an action figure photographer. I swear, people just don’t know how to pose figures.
@@BoogSReviews it was just a joke guys. He’s know for his crazy dynamic art style but loves to make plastic statues.
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 lol it's funny because it's true.
@@BoogSReviews fuck off boog
You can tell they used the same prompts for those backgrounds but changed one detail from modern to 60s. The statues look really good though.

Not surprised McFarlane stooped this low. Remember his NFT figures? 💀
@@oberonvortigern4138 and Todd letting an Ai "artist" win an art competition, yeah
what, be was into that shit?
Both are definitely AI, you can see it in the inconsistency of linework, placement of objects, how smooth or jagged things are at random. Theres a vibe you can pick up to how these image creation models render things.
So looking at these, it's definitely AI, there's a lot of key things that stand out, like trees growing out of a rooftop and a lot of inconsistentcies.
Such a shame McFarlane Toys is now stooped to plagerism 😢
Especially since Todd himself is an artist
there are roof gardens all over NY you clueless person. and YES THEY HAVE FUCKING TREES. just google it.
@@poob1082 Yea I really hope this was something that flew under the radar and isn't him banking on new tech trends like he did with nfts.
Is probably the case of McFarlane Toys hiring an artist to do the backgrounds who ended up using A.I. IIRC, toy companies tend to hire freelance artists for art used for packaging and such.
Not plagiarism. Not gonna get into that, it's just... Not that. But it *is* horribly lazy and a poorly delivered product. Todd, as an artist, is expected to deliver something of much higher quality than shoddy AI art prompts. It's nowhere near worth the price, if such ugly non-art is included in it.
1:08 Hasbro has the sole license to make articulated action figures from Marvel Characters. More than that, they are the licencing holders. Any other brand that wants to make Marvel figures need to negotiate the license and get aproval processes directly from Hasbro. I'm talking about Mafex, SHF, Hot Toys, etc. Even those McFarlane statues. Diamond already got the rights to sell 1/10 action figures in US, so, probably makes no sense comercially to have another brand in more direct competition.
And mfs say Marvel should end their licensing deal with Hasbro and Diamond Select to work with Midfarlane.
McFarlane blows Diamond Select out of the water though.
No. Mcfarlane did mot start with statues, he created Todd's Toys(changed to McFarlane) in '94 with the Spawn figures
And no pre-posed don mot equal statues. Are Funko pops statues?
The Banpresto statues are better imo. They make anime characters at a very affordable price and have great color separation
These look so cheap. So nothing background. They'll be 10$ by Christmas.
Their crap
They are even worse in person. Just saw them yesterday. Nope Todd is insane
McFarlane is setting the "gold" standard for sketchy decisions in the last year, so I am not surprised. Not sure how/why they can't use the comic cover artwork as the background (when it makes sense), given that they already have it on the package, etc.
digital figures that are basic nft's
I hope a successful collaboration between Marvel and McFarlane will lead to Hasbro and McFarlane Toys making Amalgam Comics product in the future.
That’s unfortunately as unlikely as Jada getting to make Marvel vs Capcom figures in my opinion. Which is to say basically impossible.
The fact that 60's spidey only has one web wing is so stupid
it's exactly the same as the cover...
Mafex also makes 6 inch Marvel figures, not just Hasbro. They're great.
@@GreenLanternPrime01 they are imports, so that's different
Looks like a happy meal toy lmao not worth the price
Oh. Clickbait.
Not clickbait
The 1:6 Spider-Man "posed figure" is pretty great. These two 1:10 versions look a little silly with their generic backgrounds and just the figure posed in front of it, like something is missing. Honestly, I think these look better without the background.
I’m glad plastic free packaging didn’t stick around for too long
Shocked that there was ANY intelligence involved in making these.
Consumers gonna consume though
Mcfarlane actually started with posable action figures. With the Spawn series in 1994. It was Todd Toys at the time and then Mattel sued him over his name and he changed it to McFarlane Toys.
Hope mcfarlane includes those dioramas with their articulated figures
there was one in the joker punchline 2 pack and batman band 2 pack
Not impressed tbh
I entered a spawn art contest and one of the winners was simply AI
Since January we have had no feedback on this from either McFarlane or Image. Detail, it was in the rules that it would not be allowed
These things look poorly painted. I spotted a few painting mistakes on both figures.
Not worth it. If it’s 1/6 scale it’s cool. But 1/10 scale there are many statue making 1/10 scale which are cheaper and cooler than this.
I'm glad you decided to review these. I was wondering how they turned out. I see a market for them but I just don't see myself buying them. With an action figure, I have a little room to use my imagination for the display. That's a big deal to me.
@@tombowling8646 i agree, articulation is very important. I love Todd and his work, however the recent figures hes made are very iffy. The DC stuff is just as bad as the ML with their mass production and rehashings of the same characters, or making tons of characters no one wants.
The only articulated MCfarlane version of spiderman is one that was made in the Spiderman classics line, but that goes for a lot currently. Im.very surprised to see him making both DC and Marvel now, hes had alot of properties under his belt
I would love these statues but with jack kirby drawn characters. Probably never gunna happen though.
20 minutes, and after 10 minutes of having the backdrop shown before you got to the point. waste of my time lol
also 1/10 scale shouldn't be "smaller" as that scale is around the 7 inch scale
Thanks for the view.
@@DarkspiderDavid91 no problem, i'm just overreacting honestly
It's just a backdrop for a toy 😭 who gives af
I kinda like the fact that the web lines are a tiny bit imperfect. Call me a coper but it makes it look hand drawn (ironic given the controversy).
"when it comes to AI, i dont see it" HOW?! Its so blatantly sloppy AI
The ai is like, come on. Not surprised, just disappointed.
OMG, With those statues, i'm literally craving for some Marvel Multiverse 1/10 scale figures
if mcfarlene was smart he would set up a company in japan. the hasbro action figure embargo is only for the US.
He probably knows that already, and maybe it's just not as simple and easy to do as you think. Love him or hate him, he's worth hundreds of millions of dollars because he can be sly, not just smart.
What if Mcfarlane make a 1:10 scale articulated Marvel Action figure line? Will it break any legal stuff from Hasbro?
Ive seen waaay to many AI art on Pinterest (and other places), even dabbled with it myself (just to try it out, particularly backgrounds/environments). I’m 100% sure it’s AI. The line inconsistencies, the ‘blurry’ smudgy look of the details, definitely obvious on the windows, etc.
Such a trivial issue
People have a rent-free obsession with hating on AI art
That’s definitely AI
Bruh, both of it is clearly AI generated images.. look at the windows on the cartoony background theyre not in good perspective.. and why the hell someone want to ruin their artwork with AI?
I'd be hesitant to say anything bad about detailed PVC statues in the sub $100 price point. Old school ceramic statues were super expensive, had color issues, limited quantity, and so-so sculpting. These are super affordable and they present well. These would go for $200 - $300+ if these were diamond select ceramic pieces.
Glad I saw the comments or I would’ve wasted time sitting through a 20 like review for 20 mins…
Mcfarlane’s only goal is making money it’s natural he would not pay an artist for backgrounds
Hasbro catch? Bro you're sad you can't play with your posable figures as an adult
I really don’t see the problem. I own most of the new marvel statues that McFarlane made and the statues are great! They feel like they’re made very well and I don’t even use the backdrops. It would have been nice to have a real artist design them but at the end of the day it’s a piece of cardboard that will stay in the box for probably most collectors. Definitely not worth a THIRTY MINUTE video.
nice to see a spider-man dab
I’m never gonna get over the visualisation of that as a dab
1/10th is the same scale as his regular figures
This will look great next to his old spawn cover replica statues from back in the day
The window shapes on the one on the right give it away, no artist would draw windows like that without a ruler.
Be great with a poster of the covers signed by McFarlane to put behind them in a frame.❤
The day DarkspiderDavid makes an appropriately timed video and accepts criticism will be the day I admit TASM2 is good. It simply won't happen.
God please never let mcfarlane get hold of 6 inch marvel figures 🙏🙏
AI generated art for the backdrop. Sweepstakes that don't include a free method of entry. What's next? At least these McFarlane "figures" are pinless.
I'm still waiting for hasbro or anyone to do a true Ditko style figure (I mean don't get me wrong, the "first appearance" doesn't look bad but c'mon, I'm waiting the same figure, smaller and more accurate emblem and this bright ass blue)
I would've ask for McFarlan too but the mafex kinda does that pretty good even tho it's not 1 to 1 and Hasbro STILL didn't gave us one
I picked up the Deadpool one a month ago. Haven't seen them in stores since but it looks great on my graphic novel shelf. Looking forward to the Wolverine and Hulk ones shown at SDCC
Dude, how did you just say the same thing over and over again for 20 mins? I get that your whole schtick is crappin on mcfarlane for ratings but man, edit yourself a bit.
1/10 is bigger than 1/12 the same way 1/2 is bigger than 1/4
I honestly don’t care about the backgrounds because they are removable. I don’t want the background because it’s not an actual statue, it’s just a picture.
i mean, stan lee and bob kane did dirty on the co creators of your favourite characters but you still like them; will the ai usage, if there is, make you feel uncomfortable? not wanna sound rude or anything, it’s just that everyone is going crazy on ai, when it’s a tool in the hands of man
the web wings are goated shush
Looks like a waste of money. These things remind me of those Halmark Christmas ornaments, just oversized. Cash grab garabge, most likely not going to be worth anything down the road.
Why so much hate to marvel legends? Marvel select does have ‘limited’ articulation at 7 inches
.....statues??? Come on!!! McFarlane sure loves to tease!
1/10 is bigger in 1/12 or McFarlands 7 inch crap
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 30 bucks for this tiny little statue the McFarland 7-inch figures are almost 30 bucks😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yup the backgrounds are definitely AI, man
20:33 "1960's expired"
He can actually do these figures if they are made in his style of drawing them because he owns that. style . If Hasbro were to make Todd McFarland's style action figures made like he drew them in comics back then they owe him he can sue them because it's copy right style . From Todd McFarland's right now he can do possible figures if they are done exactly how he drew them in comics .nobody can take that away from him kabish . I think Todd McFarland is working his way to that . Where marvel can probably come to an agreement. But Todd McFarland's has to do them exactly in Todd McFarland's style.. drawing styles are like jokes you can't steal it .
If he did it in one, you can be sure he did it in all
At this point who even respect Todd anymore???
29$ ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
they look cool, I still think McFarlane wasted the Witcher 3 licence, had soooo much potential for amazing figures and statues. Agree, the backgrounds are weird, could be AI crap
There's a deadpool one also
Is the ditko Spidey in stores now?
Even if he did, it’s not that big of a deal. It’s a background. Not like the whole figure is ai. You’re literally just feeding the fire of the McFarlane haters over something that is literally not a big deal.
whats good chat
1:17 hoping it happens sooner 🙏🥰
Meh, Id still get one, IDC
Uhh this guy in my feed again. Stop hating. Who cares if the background is AI? It'll end in the trash no matter what.
Prob reason why they are $30 when his posable action figures with dc is cheaper is most likely the licensing fee marvel is charging. We all know marvel charges top dollar for anything of theirs unfortunately that the figure creator has no choice but to pass down to the consumer. Least why I’m thinking they cost so much for not being articulated and just statues. But still least these statues don’t cos the price resin statues cost in the hundreds to thousands and seen many other pvc statues cost in the 80 to 150 price range. So guess the 29.99 price is ok in long run. Just stinks everything in today economy is way overpriced due from inflation.
For $30 these look fantastic.
i thought they were Spiderman
Too small
my only problem with these figures is the backdrop and the flight pole, i couldnt care about it being ai but since the figures are supposed to be 3d versions of the comic covers wouldnt it make more sense to have the backdrop also be from the cover, like for the classic spider-man i get that it has to be different since its just white but for the other one why isnt it hobgoblin?. the size also feels way too big compared to the base, i think that if the base was bigger and then have the cardboard cutout slide into the base and maybe have the backdrop itself be 3d with overlapping layers (something like the hot toys marvel zombies deadpool) it would look a lot better and give it a more premium feel than just a single piece. the pole being metal kind of takes away from those pose for me, i think that if it was a thick clear plastic it could give more of that "mid-air" look but i get that its just for support reasons. i dont collect marvel/dc stuff but i do think that some collectors would appreciate a more premium statue especially since its the same price point as a marvel legends which has more pose options.
You expressed a lot of my frustrations with these, especially the background/base and the gargantuan pole used to hold them up.
I dont really get how the IP rights work. Like, you had mentioned that these are statues because hasbro has the articulation rights and such and I've heard that too... but then why can diamond select, mafex, s.h. Figuarts, etc make them?
...I guess I could understand why the import companies can do it, international rights and stuff, but diamond select is domestic. So, Im not sure exactly how it works. 🤷♂️ Sik
Afaik, Select has the rights for 7 inch Marvel figures and they have a set number of articulation points.
@@tonileo9849 makes sense. Hence why McFarlane can't make em. Same scale. Sik
@@sik7476 with how DC figures mostly turned out, im ok with that
@@tonileo9849 I will not debate that at all. Lol! I like maybe, 1 out of 50 McFarlane figures. Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT lobbying for McFarlane to make marvel figures, I was just thinkin about IP rights! Lol! Sik

Get to the point
Does this mean we’ll soon get a McFarlane Spider-Man figure
These are awesome
Little off topic but I kinda wish that hasbro would let up on the articulated figures thing, it would be another friendly shf vs mafex type of situation, I think that it would be a good rivalry, would make both try to step up their game but sadly it won’t happen, I’m not even a marvel legends collecter, or McFarlane collector, I just think something like that would be cool
No one wants this Todd
I got the gold label one. The packaging is too sweet, i couldn't bring myself to open it. Hopefully I'll come across another one someday
I thought McFarlane toys made bootleg lego
Craptastic
Man, when I heard McFarlane making his old cover art into statues, I really got excited. His spawn and horror series and most of his company do amazing figures. His Spiderman covers are what I think to be some of the best ever made. Not to mention, it's the era of venom and carnage that I think solidifies how we think of Spider-Man today.
But that paint on the statues is just not up to his usual standards. It really looks like some corners were cut, like maybe the paint was done out of the shop to save money? Idk, but it is just a super disappointment and, frankly, a waste all around. Why someone would damage their own work is just upsetting.
Both are fake
