Wow... I remember my mom taking me to Major Video (way before Blockbuster) and letting me rent these tapes once a week. Hearing the theme song got me a little emotional. Ultraman got all the the shine and remakes, but let's not forget Spectreman in his dirty ass suit, fighting for the entire human race.
We used to watch this in South Africa. It was dubbed into Zulu lol. We had to put on simulcast on the radio to hear it in English. So basically, a dub of a dub.
I love hearing about how many different countries Spectreman aired in. The dubbing seems to be the case with most if not all international markets where this show ended up. Even the South American and French versions all came from the English dub edit, so I guess we have Richard Rosenfeld to thank for Spectreman's global exposure. One of those fortuitous results of third party licensing that we just don't see anymore. It might have been altered away from the original, but people like Rosenfeld and Sandy Frank made it possible for us to see it.
My father bought us some Spectreman vhs videos when we were kids. It is so great that the full series is here to watch. I bought the Japanese boxset a few years ago but obviously the English dub is the one I grew up with. Thank you for uploading. This series needs to be kept alive. 😁
My grandmother used let me rent these videos from North America videos spot back in the day. I finally found this after almost 30 years. Makes me feel old. Thank you for posting this.
Wow, just found out about Spectreman, could be the show I remember watching when I was a kid. I thought it was Ultraman I watched, but I remember the character being gold, not red and silver or white., lol. One thing I do remember is that the henchmen were all black, and would dissolve after being beaten... ahhhh, the good old days of cool fx! :D
I used to watch Spectreman, as a little kid, in the US. After all of these years, I have one question: What the hell was up with that kid? Dad had to drag him away from the water and fight with him, while everyone was fleeing in a panic for their lives. Dad should have told that attacking monster to hold up, while he tanned that little behind. "Look, little boy... I ain't trying to die, because you out here acting the fool. Okay?"
Somehow a whole bunch of these episodes was on a vhs tape in my grandparents video collection in the early 90s. My younger uncle and me who were raised like brothers watched the crap out of it
The world is dying from environmental changes brought on by runaway pollution that we've willfully chosen to ignore for over sixty years. It wasn't preachy enough.
Having grown up on Ultraman a couple of years earlier, my friends and I would laugh at this as a cheap, cornball copy of Hiyata and the Science Patrol crew. Dr. Gori and his hand talking histrionics along with the even cheesier "special effects" were high comedy to us and while we watched Ultraman with suspense, we would watch Spectreman with lung clearing laughter as comedy relief.
I'm 8 years old all over again😥
Used to run home from school and catch it at 230pm. That 2:30 to 5:00 block of tv was life.
i used to catch the reruns in the late 70's on WFLD 32 chicago
Channel 32!
I caught it on super 66
thanks for sharing this was my favorite tv show in the 70s

Mel Welles did a great job with the dub on this show
If what I’ve read on the internet is true, a young Corey Burton provided the English voice of George/Spectreman
Used to watch it as a little boy growing up
I grew up in the Bay Area & watched Spectreman on Captain Cosmic channel KTVU 2 after school.
yes! also star blazers, the space giants and Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot,
Don't forget Creature Features. Bob Wilkins was the Bay Area's Rod Serling.

They should’ve stuck with pollution vs climate change, much more accurate…How George goes about getting his job, hella boomer energy 😂
Just found this gem. A bit preachy, but ....
