Valis has an awesome soundtrack and Telenet Japan had some awesome FM, patches for the sound driver, and this sound driver in particular was also used in the MD port of exile, which also sounds very good and shares a lot of the same FM patches with the soundtrack and fun fact valis 3 was actually released first on the MD before part one, but both games came out in 1991 where is the original NEC PC 98 came out all the way 1986. The MD version literally came out five years later and what an improvement in audio and visuals over the original.
There was a hidden sound test code on the original Valis for Sega Genesis. I don't remember how to do it off the top of my head, but I used to listen to "The Wilderness" a LOT.
By no means is this a bad soundtrack, but it just sounds *WAY* better in 50hz. I played through this game twice: Once in 60hz, then in 50hz. And pretty much every song sounded amazing with that slower speed. Some choice examples of tracks that get butchered in 60hz are the title theme (00:00), Flash of Sword (03:13), Opening Visual 1 (01:08), the boss theme (05:29) and Death Whisper (19:13).
This is one soundtrack that really does sound much better at 50Hz, I know because i've played this and my god it is beautuful at 50fps. This just sounds like a rushed mess.
I have actually already recorded all of Magical Chase's songs except for the ending theme because it's not in the soundtest and there does not seem to be a way to record it ingame without sound effects playing over top of it. I can upload all of the soundtrack except for the ending theme if you'd like. It truly is a masterpiece.
@@shade221 Sorry I didn't see your comment until now. I'll get on with exporting that soundtrack then and I'll post a download link here when I'm done.
@@shade221 Alright I've uploaded Magical Chase to our MEGA. I wasn't able to get the ending theme without sound effects but every other song is good. Here's the link to download it: mega.nz/folder/xhpCxYSJ#zVrcXYbn5QVS24TEB7hnbg
3:14 Brutal, masterpiece

"The Wilderness" fucking *SLAPS!* Such a great song.
Ugh! That song set the mood SO PERFECTLY for the tragedy that was coming! 😭
Something about it just sounded mounrfull, and there was a reason.
Awesome soundtrack and thanks for posting this! I really should play some of the different versions of the first Valis at some point.

@@avalond1193 Is it available in North America?
Pinch Zone! Hadn't heard that one in a while
This could have been one of the best Mega Drive soundtracks but it's so ridiculously fast. It definitely sounds much better at PAL speed.
