Alisia Dragoon is my childhood. I love this game and the soundtrack soo much. Every theme is amazing I am so happy you uploaded this. The first music stage is the most precious to me. It's the first time I see the Japanese cover and I love it, I always thought the occidental version wasn't really representing the game. I wish they would do like orchestral version, can you imagine.
Yes, song 1-1 is incomplete. To listen to the second part, start playing the song in the options menu and, when you decide, just press and keep pressed button A while the song plays. Amazing idea they had! I think they realized both parts of the same song were so free, so amazing by their own, but still connected. This is a smart and simple code that makes the transition from the first to the second part. You can loop 100 times or only one time the fist part and then decide to play the second part. Try it and post here.
Takes me back. Whe i first encountered that bigass swamp monster at the very end of the swamp, i still remember how it scared the shit out of me, it was terrifying!
I didn't know the Japanese version had such a breathtaking cover. The other one is definitely above average by western standards, but this one just kills it.
Beautiful recording but you forgot to record the second part of Stage 1-1 that only starts playing when you reach a certain part of the level! You can make it play by pressing A while you're listening to Stage 1-1's track in the sound test. Once you've pressed A it will start playing at a certain part of the track.
so glad i played this game when i was younger. ridiculously amazing soundtrack and i don't throw compliments like that around unless they are deserved. well fucking done
This is masterful. Though I'm not much of a collector myself, this is the only game that makes me feel like actually buying an original copy. You know, so I can play it on my Mega Drive. Thank you for this, Dustin.
This game is such a hidden gem and more people need to know about it! The soundtrack is one of the greatest I've ever heard and it just brings even more flair and personality to a game that already oozes it. Stage 4 to me is the one that feels like "Alisia's Theme". I know that a few stages and the end credits use the same melody but it's the one that I feel speaks about her character most of all. The end credits theme always gets me a bit emotional, feels like something that should be played by a full orchestra.
Yeah! That’s how I was finally able to beat the game! I was able to get a lot of practice in on the final boss & learn his pattern without having to replay the entire game. And yes, the soundtrack is amazing!
so mad! local game store that sells a lot of older stuff got a boxed copy of this (NA version) for like 100 bucks and it immediately sold before i had a chance to grab it!
Ah yes, my favourite Mega Drive game ever. I would’ve loved it at age 11 if I had discovered it but I didn’t play it until 10 years later discovering more of the Genesis’s library. Also, this game should get the HD remake treatment.
Heh, same. I have a PAL copy that I play on a Japanese Mega Drive (they're fully compatible) and apparently the only difference is that they slowed down the intro music to stay in sync with the intro graphics, even on a 60Hz console it's slow. Pretty interesting that the rest of the music is still the same, huh?
I was wondering when you'd upload this on your channel, being that it is such an iconic game in Mega Drive history. Also, I have to say I heavily prefer the Japanese cover art to the overseas version, because while it doesn't look particularly bad, it clashes with what the actual game looks like since it was animated by Gainax. But then again, gaming companies thought that manga-styled art would scare away western gamers at the time. Not exactly sure why that was, but whatever.
Baldours theme(I think that was its name) @38:11 is amazing, the hefty bass and 'danger' sound in the intro really gives the feeling that this is it, the BIG battle, fighting against an evil god...
Well, the character design and concept art were made by GAINAX, of all things. It's one of their very few collaborations on a videogame, if I'm not mistaken.
@@Shendue Actually Gainax made a bunch of video games, most of them ero games for PCs like the Cybernetic Hi-School series. I think this may be the only time they worked on a console game though.
One of the better soundtracks on Genesis games :) Love to listen to this on my phone with a game music player. There are some really cool remixes/covers of this games music. If you guys are interested, check out for example "alisia dragoon stage 5-2 cover" by Luke Jansen. It's rockin' !!
YES! Stage 1-1's theme is amazing! Thank you so much for uploading this soundtrack. (BTW, what happened to your recording of Sonic 1? I can't find it on your channel anymore.)
It's a spiritual successor to Thexder, so that. Don't go in thinking Thexder is as good, though. Blades of Vengeance for Genesis has a similar medieval theme but the combat is quite different. Probably the most Alisia Dragoon-like game is Psychic Assassin Taromaru for the Saturn.
That... is interesting. I'm used to that kind of thing with badly logged/looped VGMs. I'm going to have to check that out again later. I've never really played the game much--does the second part of the music come in at a particular time or is triggered by an event?

Nobody expected this game to happen but it was a hidden gem if you've played it because it was so underrated.
Sega sound is simply amazing, when used properly :)
You'd be amazed at how many people that don't know the difference...
This comment needs more up votes!
It sure can. The Yamaha YM2612 is my favourite sound chip.
It's a good thing that this underrated game is included in the Genesis Mini
Yeah, first opening music sounds like harpsichord.
If only we could have a remake of this game. The soundtrack was way beyond its time.

Big mood, im feeling this.
Every few years i listen to the first stage song from alisia dragoon and then i have to listen to it all
I can’t wait for an orchestral version! We’ll do it one day, If nobody will…
damn how catchy was stage 5 one in the caverns??? omg i love
Hell yeah, a must play for any genesis fan. I always thought it was cool that Gainax was involved.
A gorgeous cult game with a fantastic soundtrack !

Thank you so much - it always bothered me not to be able to transition smoothly
This game's worth just for the soundtrack. God bless Mega Drive YM2612.
The game is pretty good too, so you have both a nice game and great soundtrack.
Idiotic comment
One of the beautifullest Sega Genesis soundtrack !
preety diverse for a md soundtrack

Yoo, you should see the manual. It has more pages than most other MD manuals and it's full to the brim with more hand-drawn artwork.
Was just thinking the same when I saw that. The US/EU cover seems pretty lame after that.

I played this a little kid back in 92, never got past stage 6 but it was fun game, never realized how heavy metal the soundtrack was.
This is masterful. Though I'm not much of a collector myself, this is the only game that makes me feel like actually buying an original copy. You know, so I can play it on my Mega Drive. Thank you for this, Dustin.

Alisia forever
Mannnnn take me back to my childhood days😄😄
You n me both man.
Great game, great music. An underrated gem. I wish they revived and updated many of these classic games for the modern market.
the opening theme really sounds like bach or some baroque composer! the person who made it is very very talented
A group of five composers actually
I used to play its soundtrack and let it play for hours, especially round 4
Stage 3 is my jam. The big ship level was cool, too.
Thank you very much for this beautiful music... back in the past... Arigatou
13:55 stage 3 is my favorite music ALISIA DRAGON GREAT GAME congratulations

Pedazo de juego , qué pena que no tuviese una segunda entrega

Decidetto I noticed the same thing. I played the PAL version from Europe and only the intro is slowed.
I think I beat this game, many years ago. Despite the stiff ass control, it's a good damn game.

I came into this game for the sexy protag, and I stayed for the banger tunes.

That Stage 1 opening was pretty great.
Legends Never Die Bro
I miss this game
Any idea who the cover artist is on the box? Fantastic stuff.
It's by Takehiko Itoh AKA Hiroyuki Hataike. He also worked on Thousand Arms, Ryu Knight, and Outlaw Star.

Great soundtrack for a really good game, although I'll probably never beat the stage 6 boss
Nice game choice!
Hell yes hell fucking yes.
This games was super good
Nobody plays the 1st stage OST complete. After the 2nd loop the music changes.

I'm trying to learn that intro with no tabs, I'm half way so far
The Game Please a Remake
1-1 isn't complete :(. Still thanks for the upload
? it's recorded off the sound test for 2 loops, what's missing?
I've been bitten by problems like this when I record off of VGMs, but this game has a sound test so I did it there.
It's missing the second half of the song which sounds more "aggressive", I blame the sound test then.
/watch?v=DmdE3wHHq54 (1:33)

It's triggered by proceeding in the stage, I'm not sure if the change is immediate however. After that the song will loop the second part forever.
I hate this clunky mess of a game so much, but the OST is SO goddamn GOOD. What a misfortune.

The game is original for the time, games with a woman were rare. Interesting game but too difficult.
A commercial like every 90 seconds. This sucks 😅
