- Score available here:
A beautiful Trio for organ, based on the tenor aria from the cantata BWV 166. The oboe part from this aria is the right hand part in this trio, and the basso continuo part has become the pedal part. The Trio is an adaptation for organ of this aria by an unknown scribe.
In creating the score for my edition I took the liberty of making some alterations to the version as it is notated in the manuscript of this organ Trio. Bars 11-15 are a repitition of bars 1-4, transposed a fifth and with the parts of the hands reversed (i.e left hand part has become right hand part and vice versa). There is however a devation from this in bars 14 and 15, where the left hand part plays something else. This deviation makes sense when you consider the part for the tenor: the crucial notes of what should have been the left hand part are sung by the tenor. Without the tenor however, those notes miss in the transcription for organ in the manuscript. I think the piece works better with those notes restored to the left hand part.
In a few other spots there are, I think, transcriptional errors in the manuscript, where the right hand part has some other notes than the oboe part in the aria. I corrected these as well. All my alterations are indicated in the score. If you wish, you can play the version as it is in the manuscript.
While I was recording this performance, my youngest son came home from school. That's why you hear me suddingly yelling "Hallo" (we're Dutch after all) in bar 18. As I was quite pleased with how the recording went up to that point (even with mistakes and all) I decided to finish it and leave the yell included...
Grazie molto.. Delle tue eccelenti esecuzioni e del sito che ci proproni.
👍👍👍SUPER !!!!!!!!👏👏👏
Thanks!
I always won deed what Bach would have made of the String Quartet as a form
Interesting question. Especially since Bach was not a fan of the (then emerging) Sonata form.
I also have my doubts about Sonata form. I feel composition should be more organic or continuous. I feel the Sonata form can be too intellectual. Broad statement, I know.
