"Airborne is great as long as they don't run out of ammo." - proceeds to never send resupply lol. Shack went to the "A bridge too far" Airborne command school. Great video!
I feel like Mel Gibsons movie "We were soldiers" is Shacks favorite movie. He tries to copy that strat on every game he plays. Especially Empire at War. Then it gets combined with the 1st Battle of Geonosis which is basically a swarm of infantry engaged in civil war style line battle vs rocket artillery, tanks and droids.
This game really needs realistic voice-overs. It's nice that they added the radio crackle, but they clearly reused old lines from the other games. Would love to see"homeworld" style voice acting 👍
Definitely interesting and a whole lot of detail. I think my only issue is how large scale it is. I can definitely see myself completely hyperfocusing on one small battle, only to lose half the map. I much prefer the scale of company of heroes, halo wars, and empire at war, as I can generally keep the whole map in mind as I order troops.
This is taskforce SQUIDS. We request an immediate WARNO ARMY GENERAL campaign, whether solo or co-op. I recently discovered these Steel Division-like war sims and I fell in love with them. I think our lads will love this content too.
Strong game for a new player. :) If you click the fast move and unload button after choosing a new unit but before bringing them onto the battlefield, they will enter the battlefield with that order already, so you don't have to micro them again when they arrive at their position. Before the campaign I first would recommend the Operations, which are cool one of missions. :) Less commitment whilst still story based with some decent classic scripted RTS missions.
there is not a "traditional" campaign where it has a in-depth story and plot line. What it uses instead is a "dynamic" army general mode which is a turn based overworld with formations of units that battle and turn into the actual gameplay battles which you can autoresolve, or play out, and has PVP and PVE (COOP) or single-player capability.
Airborne (specifically 82nd) is the strongest div in the game rn, though they lack a bit of endgame punch given their lack of tanks their opening play is powerful enough that they generally snowball pretty hard, 82nd also has access to LAVs which have been a menace for a few patches now and powerful air and helo tabs (though the nerf to F-16 LGB with 1.0 sending it to 1 per card rather than 2 was pretty big)
Hey Shack! Love the videos. I see you haven't tried Steel Division 2 yet. It's really fun. It's possible to co op and artillery can be absolutely decisive. And you can create fortifications systems in army general mode.
The AI in this game is pretty easy in my experience, they can get pretty predictable after a while. The real challenge is in multiplayer matches. 10v10s are also extremely fun
Hey shack, I’d definitely recommend creating your own deck the prebuilt ones can be kinda bad, been playing early access a bunch before it’s official release and can say the airborne divisions have a pretty rough learning curve but can be very rewarding, the 8th infantry and armored divisions are probably the easiest to learn the mechanics with, the tutorials are also pretty helpful and in the armory hovering your mouse over weapon types and unit types gives a description to what they are best used for. Hope to see you do more videos on this game in the future it’s been one of my favorites for a while now!
Hey Shack, SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) is the "Wild Weasel" you're looking for (with HARMs). The F-16C (SEAD) should be outfitted as a wild weasel here. (disclaimer: I haven't played this game yet)
These games (Warno, SD, Wargame) all have a learning curve like a brick wall but are pretty good at what they do. Operations are pretty decent one-off missions that help you learn, probably better to start there than the campaigns or even skirmish. At some point I'd advise spending some time in the armoury screen, just browsing around looking at the different units, comparing stats, reading tooltips for what all the different things mean. Then try putting together a custom deck. It's not sexy but it'll give you a much better idea what each unit and deck is about.
imo your biggest issue is that you don't spend your points. You exhaust yourself even though you have the points to buy dozens of units. Its best to spend constantly
I think one huge thing about World in Conflict was the fact that you had to fill in a specific role (air, support, infantry or cavalry) and so long as a game doesn't have that it won't feel like WIC to me.
The division deck systems do enforce some specialization (e.g. airborne division usually only have very light tanks) just more realistic and less gamey than WiC. If you play in 10v10 modes, there's also room for you to focus on playing certain roles, more so if the server is set to have reduced income (known as tactical).
My brain watching this video "Wait a minute, wasn't Shack in the Airforce?" That part of the Lore or have I'm I thinking of someone else? "I only got light Logistics vehicles I don't have the real heavy stuff" YOU HAVE A CHENOOK, Id say that counts as Heavy, its Big enough. I think the only thing BIGGER is a FOB (yes that is a Thing in this game).
Probably don't want your transports on auto-sell, you lose a lot a maneuverability especially for artillery guns which leaves them at the mercy of counter-battery. Edit: Sheridan's for 100 points is not cheap, they're that expensive because this is an airborne division.
I think I'm getting to the point where I need to custom make my army. And you're totally right about the mobility of artillery. I need to find out how to turn off auto sell
@@CaptainShack The settings menu has a lot of handy tools when it comes to unit decision making. Rules of Engagement: Auto-resale in Gameplay Settings is the one you're looking for. Another of interest is Rules of Engagement: On Foot Pathfinding, it keeps infantry to treelines when giving orders.
@@CaptainShack Hey, just a Heads up, SEAD(Suppresion Enemy Air Defense) Missiles are what you Described with the Phantom, you had that for a while in your Lineup and i just felt the need to comment, love the content, long time viewer, Keep being awesome!

I played wargame before and just got dumpstered. My units didn't seem like they could stand toe to toe with the enemy units. I wasn't really able to see why that was, so I just uninstalled it and spent my time on something else. The general feel of these games is pretty good though. I'd love to see something like this in an mmo, where a player could control the npc armies (or the ai would if there's not a player who wanted to) and the other players would control hero units (in the context of something like totalwar warhammer.)
The Quality of life features in this game make it a good bit easier to get into compared to WG Rd. There are solid ingame tutorials + the average Time to kill is higher so you have a bit more time to react. Its still for sure a big game and if you play with standard settings you have alot of units to control, but you can reduce the income and slow the gamespeed in singleplayer and there are also multiplayer lobbies with reduced income.
