    Undervolt is a must for any gaming laptop.I believe some manufacturers don't allow it because they are fearing that their product's lifetime will be too long and they won't be able to sell their upcoming products as they expect.

    I watched this video and honestly did not expect much to change in my laptop's thermals. But I was wrong on so many levels, undervolting my GPU made such a positive impact on my CPU's thermals. It was almost a 10 degree difference on both of my cpu and gpu without sacrificing much performance. Definitely will watch more of your videos!

      Bob Of All Trades Hi throttlestop got an update and we can set a custom prochot offset, I experimented with my laptop and on a prochot of 85 I can still hit the boost clock of 4.2ghz with a sustained frequency of 3.9 ghz ( base clock is 2.5ghz) which is a lot better than lowering my PL1 and PL2 and/or locking the frequency since in my case if I lock the cpu at 3.7 ghz I still hit 90 degrees. Because of my limited knowledge on this kind of things I find it weird that the laptop can maintain 3.9ghz (unlocked up to 4.2ghz) at 85 degrees prochot but when locked at 3.7ghz and even lower pl1 and pl2 I still hit 90 degrees. Hope you can look into this and give your opinion. :)
      Edit: I also removed the undervolt of my GPU during my tests.

      Undervolting makes your laptop unreliable, thats why laptops don't come with undervolting by default. Acer Helios 300 2019 had an undervolt preset, however it is applied only when enabling the turbo mode. I think its time to stop considering CPU undervolting. (GPU undervolting may be OK)

    • @sm13752
      @sm13752 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PremVijayVelMani undervolting is not about pushing the offset slider to the left as much as possible just because the laptop cpu can handle that much of an undervolt. It must be stress tested on all cores and threads before considering the chosen undervolt value as the best for the given system. Using Throttlestop's inbuilt benchmark tool does serve the purpose really well.

    • @PremVijayVelMani
      @PremVijayVelMani 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sm13752 Yeah I know, however the silicon may change slightly over time (or due to some other factors). So we need to keep doing the stress tests regularly to make sure nothing bad happens while doing important work. This is all time consuming. This is my last ditch effort. I’ve got a ROG laptop with a i7 8750H, and I was running on BIOS v314, until I realized I was overheating because my GPU undervolt was not being applied. So I checked bios updates and found v315, released last month. Great, I though, until I undervolted the gpu successfully, only to thermal throttle on the cpu during a graphics benchmark. I go there, and guess what? No undervolting happening here. I don’t have much hope either. The i7 8750H is a 45W professor, and even when limiting to that wattage, I’m hitting 90°c on idle because the system randomly pulls a 4.0Ghz All-core boost for no apparent reason (speed shift is set to 128, only monitoring apps open in background)

    I know this is kinda out of the topic but I wanted to ask if you have faced something like this before, I have a mech g2rx with the 9750h and 1660ti after a format I installed Throttle stop did a small undervolt of -100mv and ran Cinebench the laptop will not clock above 3.3-3.4 at all.
    I checked the temps they were under 80 and it was running on turbo profile in the control center , I tried reseting throttle stop lowering the EPP to 0-1-10-32-64-128 and nothing changed, tried raising the power limit to 107-70 and it will saturate 65w but still at those same clocks, tried lowering the wattage to 70-45 and the undervolt to -125mv and still the same outcome.
    It will boost to 4ghz all core on 50% usage if the app is not hammering the CPU but it won't budge on 100% load and the problem is the laptop is being used in content creation and those few mhz are kinda important.
    Thanks

    Hello sir, I'm really having trouble with my laptop, dell g7 7590, i7 9th gen, rtx 2060. The problem is the dcp latency, which I've been facing for a couple of months. When I pause and play a video back on the vlc player, the video plays back immediately but the audio plays back with about 2 seconds delay. When I also run the latency mon on the device, it shows that there's dcp latency and also shows that it's caused due to some power throttling settings, but I never found any option on my device. I have the omen 17-cb1005nu. It's with the annoying i7-10750H. I made all the updates of bios + drivers.
    However, when I use throttlestop, and I do offset voltage -30, I can see in HWInfo under IA Overclocking that my voltage offset is -30mV. Also, when I try to test it with CinebenchR20 and looking at the max voltage by sensors, I think it does effect the voltage.

    I have a Dell G7 7790 that I repasted but still runs fairly toasty and had this problem as well. About a week ago I got sick of the inability to undervolt and went ahead and downgraded my BIOS to allow undervolting again. With a stable -155mv undervolt, I was still pushing 90c under gaming load so I did end up lowering my PL1/PL2 to 35/45 and now sitting at a more comfortable 75-80c.

    GPU doesn't show me the voltage on afterburner. But I can see the clock speed and based on that I can guess the voltage based on the curve. Did a flatline at 1200mhz and I hope cuda cores chose the possible lowest voltage they can run on. Decreased temps from 80 to 65 based on this simple trick... Throtle stop is hard to guess, even if you cannot see on hardware info, you definitely feel when you had frozen your pc with too much undervolt or just check package power. Also what i hate is that laptop shares same heatsinks with cpu and gpu, they don't have different exhousts - a blessing and a curse.
    Because now my gpu doesnt heat up, my cpu doesn't throttle which increased cpu, gpu performance... Now i onlu need to change thermo pasta. Too bad liquid metal is toxic for laptops, if you throw it down the floor, all liquid metal will just get out and splash electronics...

    I have noticed that disabling Intel turbo in throttlestop lowers cpu thermals significantly on many laptopts that I have used and tested while gaming.
    The great thing about it is, that it has not lowered the amount of fps in games substantially, usually the change is insignificant. This has worked like a charm for me while I have been gaming.
    I have seen changes of over 15 degrees celsius in demanding titles. For me Intel turbo is pretty useless, so I turn it off. I care more about thermals than I do about maximum fps.
    Thermals are the key, I agree wholeheartedly.
    Plus if one uses throttlestop, one can just click the turbo back on, easy as that. I have throttlestop always running in the background.
