More like inspired me to possibly double major with journalism because your content has proven that research, data, and personality can bring to light topics some people might not fully understand. Plus, your wit and humor keeps me laughing daily, so thank you for that!
Best case scenario is that TH-cam intervenes. But the process to get TH-cam to intervene is part of the problem. If the platform wasn't so easy to abuse problems like this wouldn't be as frequent.
The biggest issue is that copyright battles is a legal issue and youtube has created a nonlegal way to resolve it(guilty until proven innocent). If more of these cases were taken to court it would set a precedent on how they should be handled. Unfortunately they rarely make it out of youtube. So we are left with this.
@@hackerkiller2131 did you watch the video? None of the content was sourced from the other guys video, it was just 3 separate videos that they happened to use the same STOCK image
It's ridiculous that a creator can get a whole channel banned for a (debatable) copyright of a few secs on a couple videos. No other platform operates like that, you can get individual pieces taken down but not rip away someone's entire livelihood
I genuinely love Ludwig because he acknowledges what he did instead of being defensive about it (whether it was his fault or not) for example what happened with that one creator who copyright striked him. He didn't once say anything bad about CGP Grey even though that channel almost got his channel deleted. He also said he doesn't blame him and that just tells us SOOO much about his character.
It is crazy how poorly youtube manages their copyright system. They should have a third party moderator who can watch the videos and objectively decide if they are invading the copyright. Having the people who abuse the copyright button be the ones to decide if they "made the mistake". It lends itself to getting more false accusations of copyright being thrown out there and not being done properly. With all their money that they make, it would be easy for them to pay a team to sit there and ONLY respond to copyright strikes. If the system was more fair, it probably wouldn't be misused because there would be repercussions to people's actions.
@piplupdabest list other sites because if I was a youtuber, I could copyright someone and if they wanted to appeal it they would go through me. If I copyright them the first time, I probably believe its true and won't take it back. TH-cam has no involvement except trusting the word of the person who issues it.
The system they have is sadly necessary so they aren't liable to be sued by copyright holders. I don't remember the specifics but I think its called Safe Harbor laws?
It literally would not be legal to have youtube have a team hired to sit down and review copyright strikes because they aren't the copyright owner of the content so them deciding against one side would be grounds for being sued if they are wrong which they would be at least sometimes. It would be much more logical to rework how the strike system works on youtube but the people who have the copyright are usually bigger corporations which is not in youtube's benefit to make enemies of. Bad system and I hope youtube does a rework (and i believe they will) but I just hope it is a rework people are happy with because I have a hard time seeing that be true.
This is really upsetting. About a month ago I started binge watching Magnates Media. Their videos are super high quality and well made. I really hope the channel does not get taken down.
I feel like all I ever do is send thank-you notes to your channel. But thanks again for sticking up for the little guy. Any system that is set up can be gamed. When creating a system in which people interact, one not only has to consider the good actors, but also how the bad actors will abuse the system. The one who writes the rules needs to consider both.
Thanks so much for the coverage! Really do hope MagnatesMedia doesn't get deleted. Their content is far too good for their hard work to be punished unfairly.
You know that moment when someone knows they've messed up and are just too embarrassed to go back on themselves so they just run with it? I suspect this is a great example of that

Someone should establish a TH-camr Union or a content creator union... that just lets youtubers pay a small fee (or a fee based on size and income) to receive help, support, and maybe most important legal aid in cases like these. Obviously youtubers who maliciously try to delete channels with copyright strikes would either get their membership suspended indefinitely or just not receive legal aid via the union. Could also help in negotiations with youtube itself regarding whatever. Considering how many people make a living by being content creators, and how easily that living can be removed, it's weird that there isn't something like this already. I guess the fact that most of these people could be considered as a sort freelance/ contracted artists, it would be hard to unionize, and maybe there's a "secret" line in the content creator contracts that doesn't allow for unionizing (but I assume that's illegal, so probably not). The biggest problem may be the fact that youtubers are global, and it would be hard to create one union that can help anyone in any country, but if you started by basing it in the US, or the UK since Europe is more unionfriendly, it should be possible to grow enough to help almost anyone anywhere. The financial side would require a major youtuber, or preferably several, to invest heavily in the beginning, but once the wheels started turning, it may quickly become self-sufficient based on memberfees
Shoutout to Upper Echelon for a GREAT video breakdown of this situation! Highly recommend his channel for excellent journalistic content and covering stories like these
I think that's the dream for him, same way Hasan was so ready to act when Adin Ross tried to copy-strike him. You'd have to be stupid to attack creators of that size
Three strikes against Business Casual should be done to prevent predatorial copystrikes. TH-cam shouldn't encourage predatorial behaviors. That's morally wrong.
I hope this video helps this get handled in a way that protects genuine creators. Magnates media deserves to be fine and the guy who bought the channel should be canceled for being vindictive and literally never creating anything.

They don't and BC has enough to bleed them dry even if they tried to fight back, the reality of the situation is BC is going to get away with it because YT doesn't seem interested et all with the situation and even if they saved MagnatesMedia (doubtful) then BC will just try again later with someone else or even push the subject even more aggressively in the future.
@@Nemesis7980WP The "if I win they cover my lawyer fees" situation only works _if you actually win_ and you also need to pay up first, it's not like they'll pay them for you before the trial and its very hard to find a lawyer working pro-bono, specially on a complex case that could drawn out for months or over a year.
They should have actual moderators physically check copyright claims. If the claims are frivolous and/or malicious too frequently, then that person gets striked and potentially gets demonetized and/or suspended.
@@Phrate my idea was that by having such a counter strike system in place, there might be less people claiming as they'll think about their action before making a frivolous claim
Companies don't want this, bc TH-cam will get a lot of copyright strikes either way, esp from major companies and if those take months to validate then YT will get sued by those companies. They're putting pressure on them.
The worrying thing is that if this goes to court, there will surely be some old timers that dont know what editing is and will just see the face value that magnates is using the same images as Casual and they'll be on his side. Bro they dont even know how to turn on the internet, they for sure dont know shit about copyrighted content on the internet
MagnatesMedia is a threat to Business casual. Alex feels like his income will be affected hence the strikes on small details in videos. He is fearful of an upcoming great channel. Alex needs to get a reality check and realise that not everything can go his way... Magnates deserves victory and a counter-sue for defamation.
But the issue is not about the photos but rather about the effects done to them, the time invested in creating the parallax effect so that it could look cool, only for a "content creator" to decide to use them because indeed they look cool. Even it they are 1-2 seconds in length it is still the work from another person. What is ludicrus is that the guys who made the effects are not the ones issuing the copyright but rather the guy who bought the rights to those videos... which is how copyright works and that despicable Edson guy is entitled to it. Unfortunately he is right. Saludos.
I was part of powerTV with a group of friends when those contracts were happening with Alex. I remember a call where Alex started screaming at one of the largest creators in the network at the time when we had weekly calls to just talk about how our channels were doing etc and then the panic when that creator was leaving. Things started to get really weird and my group of best friends actually all left with me. We ended up getting in contact with a man by the name David at Curse Network, union for Gamers and when he was shown some of the contracts he made some comments about them and not long after contracts that were standing and in effect for us were voided and we quickly hitched with curse, I remained with them for a few years until ultimately getting a better deal with Screenwave Media which is by far the best network i've ever been part of. I remember many promises and few kept. There was always talk of a power TV Headquarters being made and we'd all be offered our own free creator spaces to record in a professional setting when it was done but we never did see any proof of where that or where the % of our revenue actually went. It wasn't all terrible, Alex was pretty motivational with us and did push us to be the best we could with TH-cam, I know there were a few channels he actually invested in to get them better equipment and help them out but some of those came with a higher split contract, Then there was the outrageous ones though that lasted far too many years.
I'm pretty sure if TH-cam finds out that he purchased the channel second hand they will delete business casual, its definitely against their terms of service.
I do appreciate the respect that you're now someone who is contracted to TH-cam, putting your neck out there. If he claims your stuff and abuses the claim system to try to auto-delete your channel, you're not going to bat alone.
as far as Russia, the only thing that happened to us is that we just don't have ads and can't use youtube sponsorship and we don't actually need a vpn to access google and didn't need it from the beginning when its all started 🤷♂️
I mean it's clear that the guy only have 2 choices, either sue him or let magnates channel lives. if he does sue him, which I think more likely to happen, we just have to support the guy at magnates media maybe like covering the legal fees and stuff.
This human excrement Edson will sue because Magnate used the word "apologize" in his response, as you can see in the doc Ludwig shows. The process was easy. 1. Create a sense of urgency, threaten, talk big how you defeated Russia 2. Get "I apologize" in response 3. OMG I WON HE ADMITTED GUILT BY APOLOGIZING, LET'S SEND THE NEXT 2 STRIKES AND EXTORT HIM FOR MONEY IF HE WANTS TO REMOVE THEM!!!! IF HE SUES I CAN JUST SAY HE ADMITTED GUILT AND I WON BY DEFAULT
This reminds me of something I heard about a while ago where companies would buy up patents and then sue other companies that were using the products based on the patents that they now owned the rights to.
Great video lud. But now that I actually think about it, this channel is just a really good and improved drama alert lol. I am ashamed it took me this long to figure it out.
Yes people losing their careers to individuals threatening them in a multiple of ways such as legal and financial is just dramatic, no way this could possibly for-shadow a more insidious goal.

I feel like maybe the (easiest?) solution at this point is to have content takedown notices stay pretty similar but have content strikes be actively moderated and checked before approval. Preferably all the strikes, but especially the third ones, as they cause complete channel deletion. While not a perfect fix, it would still let most of the content IDing be automated and not overload human resources. This way, the channel takedown penalties with actual long-term consequences of the content ID system cannot being less abused by anyone to take down channels. Because if the purpose is purely for content, keep the immediate penalties (ad revenue, muting) and such where the money is just held as they are, but channel termination is verified due to how many people keep getting screwed by the system.
There is a tom Scott video that explains why TH-cam can't intervene in such cases. The moment they "decide" the results of a copyright issue, they will be seen as a publisher and it will be TH-cam that gets sued. If I was TH-cam, i'd never deal with any of this too. As Tom says, I'm not saying this is how things should be but that's how they are
This really brings up the question of when you're selling a TH-cam channel if you're implicitly selling the copyright to the content already in the channel, or if you're just perpetually licensing that person to host the content you've already made.
“TH-camrs don’t really contribute to society” that is such a lie, I never really had a father figure and I learned a lot by TH-cam, it helped me to became who I am today.
You earned yourself another subscriber. I'm a maintenance man and it feels so good to hear from time to time that people actually actually appreciate us :D
TH-camrs do offer a lot to society. Many youtubers have been my mentors through the years and help me manage my mental health. It is very valued to me.
Can someone explain why Ludwig would get copyright strikes for reacting to CGP Grey's video, but Audit the Audit channel can use footage from other auditors and not get copyright striked?
Ludwig did exactly that, he "reacted" to the content, providing little transformative, informational or educational work to the table. Audit the Audit on the other hand is doing all three, mostly in the informational and educational work. He is also likely asking for permission to utilize others videos, whereas reaction content creators usually don't. CGP Grey has shown up in other people's videos before, but had been works of full transformation. He has strong convictions against just pure reaction content.

I wouldn’t say you’ve inspired me to become a TH-camr. Plus, your wit and humor keeps me laughing daily, so thank you for that!
aye good luck with your studes bruv
Obsequious
Best case scenario is that TH-cam intervenes. But the process to get TH-cam to intervene is part of the problem. If the platform wasn't so easy to abuse problems like this wouldn't be as frequent.
The biggest issue is that copyright battles is a legal issue and youtube has created a nonlegal way to resolve it(guilty until proven innocent). If more of these cases were taken to court it would set a precedent on how they should be handled. Unfortunately they rarely make it out of youtube. So we are left with this.
Or idk, don’t use any of his content
@@hackerkiller2131 What is this, your entry for the "village idiot's POV" award?
If the system was more fair, it probably wouldn't be misused because there would be repercussions to people's actions.
better than most sites tbh
@@piplupdabest what are you on about? Guilty until proven otherwise is not better than most sites
It's so frustrating that this has happened with so many people making malicious strikes over basically nothing so many times over the past few months

Actually ridiculous that more people are trying to do a stunt like this.
Shoutout to Upper Echelon for a GREAT video breakdown of this situation! Highly recommend his channel for excellent journalistic content and covering stories like these
Imagine if Ludwig got striked for this
It would be suicide to do that, Ludwig would basically manhandle the guy for it
I think that's the dream for him, same way Hasan was so ready to act when Adin Ross tried to copy-strike him.
"It feels like I am just talking shit without making any changes in the Universe cuz I am not cool" Ludwig says this knowing perfectly well this will be a big massive support in raising awareness
I hope MagnatesMedia has enough money to sue Alex Edson because there is no way a jury or judge would find this acceptable

They should have actual moderators physically check copyright claims. If the claims are frivolous and/or malicious too frequently, then that person gets striked and potentially gets demonetized and/or suspended.
Unfortunately that would take thousands of people to do
@@Phrate my idea was that by having such a counter strike system in place, there might be less people claiming as they'll think about their action before making a frivolous claim

Even it they are 1-2 seconds in length it is still the work from another person.

1. Create a sense of urgency, threaten, talk big how you defeated Russia
2. Get "I apologize" in response
3. OMG I WON HE ADMITTED GUILT BY APOLOGIZING, LET'S SEND THE NEXT 2 STRIKES AND EXTORT HIM FOR MONEY IF HE WANTS TO REMOVE THEM!!!! IF HE SUES I CAN JUST SAY HE ADMITTED GUILT AND I WON BY DEFAULT
Id be down to chip in a few bucks if it meant that sack of scum got handed a fat L in court
This reminds me of something I heard about a while ago where companies would buy up patents and then sue other companies that were using the products based on the patents that they now owned the rights to.
I hope if it does go to a lawsuit that those with the means will step up and help cover legal fees to ensure this doesn't set any precedents.

@Zackary Miller Thank you. Much appreciated.
