Doner was invented in Turkey in the 1800s, my friend. I don't think there is a photo of someone selling doner in Berlin in 1855, but there is a photo of somebody selling doner in Turkey in 1855.

People who immigrated to Germany 60 years ago were selected by the German authorities after passing various physical tests and health checks in Turkey. I had the opportunity to meet many of these people, and as far as I have observed, they are more respectful of the rules than the average German. They were very honest and hardworking people. Among them, there were those who spent 30-40 years of their working life without a single day of having sick-leave because it could be misinterpreted.
I think that the community to which Tommy expressed his discomfort was not the people who went there 60 years ago to work, but their grandchildren who were born and raised in Germany. I don't know how accurate it is to describe this new generation as immigrants. The Oxford dictionary defines immigrant this way: a person who has come to live permanently in a different country from the one they were born in. According to this definition, their children/grandchildren born and raised in Germany are not counted as immigrants.
I also immigrated to Germany a few years ago. Many Germans I met said that I behaved very differently from Turks who were born and raised in Germany. I told them that this is very normal because these people represent a subculture in Germany, not the Turkish culture.
There are many factors in the degeneration of people belonging to this subculture. I think the most important factor is that their grandparents who emigrated 60 years ago were the most uneducated people in Turkey. (Because educated people in Turkey did not even think about going to Germany and working under the difficult conditions of that period.) Imagine that you were born in another country as the child of uneducated and ignorant parents. It's really not easy. That's why when I see these people, I don't judge them, I try to empathize. Probably, if I had been born and raised in Germany under these conditions, I would have been a part of this subculture.

What you're saying is very interesting and, from my point of view, true.
I'm from Algeria, I studied and lived 2 years in Europe and I went back to my country.
It's someting that I was saying to the French people.
People who have diplomas and jobs don't need to leave, they're already living a decent life for the most part.
And those who went to France after the independance were hard working people who faced racism and harsh conditions and never spoke a word. Just like the Turks who went to Germany.
Their descendants however are competetely different for the exact same reasons that you pointed out.
When I was in France, I never felt connected to them despite the fact that they had the same nationality as me.
Most of them didn't speak Arabic or even Berber (same as Kurds in your country), they don't practice religion, they don't share my culture.
They're mostly a combination of French society failure and poor education from their parents.

@@djazayri213 it is wrong. Stop blaming westerners for your own shortcomings. As a Turk i can tell first gen immigrants to germany 50 years ago were devoid of education, culture. Many of them dont even speak proper Turkish. Their children now are as bad as them if not worse. This is not the fault of Germans but Turks who couldnt integrate. For you arabs it may be different because fr might have forcefully brought you to fr like colony slaves. I dont know history so i cant comment.

Every time I mentioned that I'm from Germany they ask me where I'm really from and when my family and I go visit my grandma in Turkey they say the Germans are here.

Turkish immigrant who created a variation on a dish he knew from home which then spread all over Germany. At least that's the story you keep hearing.

I agree with the part about paying attention to the rules an customs of the country. In fact, most of the Turks who came to Germany in the last ten years to escape from Erdogan, not the generation that came to Germany for post-war labor, have the aim of living in a fair and orderly place. I am one of them.

Not to judge an entire demographic (individual people will always plot across a spectrum of attitudes, experiences and so on) but I did find it such a stark contrast when first I met recent arrivals from Türkiye. I'd never have known them to be Turkish. Of course the stereotypes concerning third generation Turks (or maybe I should say Kurds?) in Germany don't apply to everyone but it's crazy to me that we only had one guy out of some 88 students back in Gymnasium who had Turkish ancestry and I don't think he finished school there. And at uni? Met few if any German Turks, for lack of a better term. It's that segregated. But in the past five years, I've met several people born in Türkiye who studied in Germany (also including Kurds, so it's not that) and instead of broken German they speak impeccable English with an accent I would have thought French-ish for lack of having heard it before.
Not entirely sure what I'm trying to say here but that was just an interesting moment, having that realisation of this other demographic actually being a thing.

I was quite surprised when Tommy mentioned the Swedish Election this year. I voted for SD myself and ill just say this, over the years they have been labled as some sort of boggieman of Swedish politics but the reality is this, none of the parties are the same party that existed even 30 years ago. All the parties are completely different, the retoric that SD is holding is the same retoric that Olof Palme had back in the 60s and its not that far from what the Socialdemocrats talked about in the late 90s. People just dont see that the left has changed alot more than they say they have. There is alot of borderline anti-swedish retoric in the lefts arguments on how immigration and religion etc should be handled. There is no wonder over the years that SD is now the 2nd biggest party as more and more Swedes see their birthrights being less and less valued in the face of mass immigration (That immigrants are essentially being prioritize over Swedes). Also the left seem to want to convey that immigrants somehow had a larger hand in mother swedens growth than is actually true. I saw on social media of some immigrants saying "If we get kicked out then we bring kebab with us" and to that i say fkn sure personally i am totally over kebab and having kebab is not a fair exchange to having millions of immigrants. In the face of the last 15 years of mass immigration SD is exactly what Sweden needs because if change is not done then what is Sweden even gonna be, is it even gonna be Sweden anymore.
Just a quick edit: SD is not that far right, in some points like immigration yes they are far right however in overall politics they are very centerist. Also those who people call facist left SD to for AFS so theres that too.

It‘s scaringly similar to other political landscapes in European countries. However, looking at Germany I don‘t think that anything will change. German people value social security way more than individual freedom and therefore elections never really show big voter movements. Reigning parties also give away senseless presents regularly to appease their voters and people really suck it up. The demographics also play into that because Germany is an old society. That‘s usually not where you will find any major change. Only if something major happens people wake up and think something needs to change but then they are quickly back to their old habits

    • @svampen7782

Very biased, condescending, mocking of language, wrong information and half knowledge. I doubt you have ever been to Turkey, yet have such strong opinions. What is anti-social here is just as anti-social in Turkey as well.

Idk if TommyKay himself would see this but I am gonna write anyway. Yes, ayran sucks, more specifically the AYRAN THEY SELL IN GERMANY sucks.
I tasted: Ja! AYRAN, 7Gün Ayran, Sütüm Ayran, Suntat Natural Ayran, Gazi Ayran, Körfez Ayran, Yayla Ayran and ALL FUCKING SUCKED. They taste and feel nothing like the ayran we have in Turkiye. Like at all. Go to Turkiye and buy some either Sütaş Ayran or Eker Ayran. Drink that goodness. That's some good stuff, ayran here tastes like they put salt in leftover buttermilk... Closest to ayran we got in Turkiye is the Müller Ayran but even that has some stupid sweetness to it (guess because it has fucking crema in it). Ayran is amazing, chop some cucumber in it, and some mint too in a hot summer day. Nirvana awaits.
