2 sanctified people: Ravel and Perlemuter. As I listen to Ravel's beatific score, I wonder what corner of Earth he inhabited to be able to write such "otherworldly music", such magnificent music? For Perlemuter this score was easy and his interpretation was all he thought about. It is his ease, his fluidity that knocks me out as I listen. What a heavenly combination!!!!!
I have his Vox set of the complete Ravel, including both piano concertos. I had no idea a film existed of him playing it live. When he re-recorded the solo works for Nimbus they did not do the concertos. I heard him live only once - an early evening recital at the QEH in London about 1971. He played the Chopin Fantasie in F minor and both books of Etudes. He just strolled onto the platform as if he had just walked in off the street and unleashed his magic. He was the least flashy and most unprepossessing musician I ever heard. No airs and graces - just music. Unforgettable.
The orchestra isn't particularly precise and the conductor seems rather uninspired. Furthermore, he seems to march through the middle part without listening to the soloist at all. It's pleasure to see and hear Perlemuter though. Thanks for the upload.
Except of Ravel I clearly hear Gershwin and Messiaen, Italian song Kutikala.. and lots of other things. Yep, Ravel wanted to release himself from just impressionistic aesthetic
To my ears this is ham-fisted, sloppy and lacking poetry. I have the Vox recording and took it off after a few minutes, it was so disappointing. Samson Francois, on the other hand...
Fantastic French contrabassoon at the start. One of the great solos for the instrument.

i'm actually impressed at the fidelity of the audio recording here. Thanks for uploading this.
This is the first version I've ever heard of this concerto and I had been looking for it for quite a while. Thanks for uploading it again!
You had beginner's luck! If you like, check out Yuja Wang for another brilliant interpretation.
Delicious performance of this energic and strong Ravel piano concerto. Thank you!!!
Grande Vlado Perlemuter!
beautiful piece
Magnifique
Astonishing.
Somebody tell me this is extremely rare...or at least was! Very interesting footage.
😍😍😍😍😍
A 10.10 c'est vraiment magnifique, tellement chinois !!!
C’est toi le chinois
Plus japonais a mon avis
His daily warm-ups is hard enough for a majority of the pianists.
And it helps that he was coached by Ravel himself

Pretty poor overall. Fists full of wrong notes. Overrated pianist.

Sounds like Stravinsky
😆

The left one?
