    The safety sentinel was just a buzzer. You set it to a speed and when you went faster then the set speed the buzzer went off. My dad had a 59 olds 98 that had it. It also had a speedometer that changed colors from green to orange to red the faster you went. Very cool car!

    Cool Olds! I know this is an old vid but I just saw it today. Safety Sentinel was a speedo buzzer. You’d set it like an alarm clock at the speed you don’t want to go over, then when the speedo hits the set point a buzzer under the dash would sound. My dad’s 1971 Buick LeSabre had one, it actually worked ok.

    Love the shape of the "S" in the Oldsmobile badge on the trunk.

    No VIN shown, but it would be something like 598M1001, which would be 59 for 1959 model year, then likely 8 for Super 88, then M for Lansing, MI (this would change with the assembly plant) and the rest would be the production sequence.

    Wow - what a shame! There's accident damage but it isn't horrible or anything. The door panels were perfect in it! Nobody could have fixed that? And it's getting crushed? ugh...

    i had a 59 convertible and let me tell you this, this car right here is worth a shit load just in parts or as a whole parts car. guy i sold mine to when he restored it he had to go all the way to Chicago for a parts car and were from pa. if this car is still around you could buy it, throw it up on ebay and it will sell.

    394 cu in. 4bbl They has a vicious top end. I had a 60 two door and seriously for a 4400 lb car it was clearly quick.. The old rocket 88 beat out many Chevy's including 396 and 427 cu in Chevy's. The only thing that gave me a run at all was a New York licensed Cadillac. We were about equal until I topped the big hill and the old paint roller speedometer went red all the way across.

    Front end probably smashed due to the failed single circuit master cylinder.

    Could you imagine trying to compete with GM in their heyday? Nothing else came close.

    • @jakekaywell5972
      @jakekaywell5972 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you mean that GM's heyday was the 1950s and 60s, I can say that there was one American car company that consistently beat the biggest of the Big Three for styling. Studebaker! Of course, being an Independent, that concern from South Bend rarely gets the credit it deserves.

    Are there any rebuilding services for the Frigidaire A5 compressor? I have a 1961 Olds Super 88 bubbletop with working factory air, and I always wonder what to do, when that A5 goes out.....

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to rebuild them. If you need A5 rebuild service contact original air group in Tampa FL

    Why in the world would a 59 Olds body be in a junkyard today or 4 yrs ago now ? It should've been crushed and recycled long ago.

      Mr. B. Here ! This shows how little you understand about automotive history, many hours went into building these vehicles so by keeping them on road people have job and update support for our automotive history is kept alive . 👀😎
