Thank you Marine. I was an Army Cav Scout. I dream of hiking the AT, and like you, I enjoy AT vlogs. You’re definitely quickly becoming one of my favorites… if not my absolute favorite. Your thoroughness, your attitude and your personality is so appreciated. I’m very thankful for your efforts. Keep it up my brother. I will watch your entire trek to Katahdin.
I hiked to Blood mountain two weeks ago (Jan 29th) and all that junk was there. I threw the jacket in the corner. So the stuff has been in there for at least two weeks possibly more. No idea. Either someone abandoned their hike or they were squatters?
Jay, you were a celebrity on video 4 impressive! I love hiking, but the most days out I've down has been 3 days on trail. Upmost respect for thru hikers.
I really love following along on your hike.Your photography is so wonderful .I do believe that you did have the best view at Blood Mountain that I have ever seen..I too watch tons of AT videos and it's never that beautiful.Maybe that's why others quit - hard to get up the mountain and then no views to make it so worthwhile.Because I agree when I see so much beauty I want to hike on.
Been watching since your start but had to comment on this video. Loved seeing the details of your time OFF trail! Tons of content out there of walking and beautiful scenery, but rarely any of the inside of a resupply or the B&B's/Hostels. Would love to see more of your interactions with people on the trail and especially during zeros! Thank you for taking us along and this has me wanting to watch your other thru hikes =)
Thank you for showing all the details of the store, gives me a better idea about resupplying and what to expect. Your videos are amazing. I'm a little behind and am catching up now. Hope all is going well on the trail. Keep up the good work!
I love your analogy of the experience something for yourself. I can't tell you how many videos I've seen of people going up and over Kearsarge Pass out of Onion Valley in California. Then I actually hiked it last June. The approach heading up to Kearsarge looks deceptively un-steep, until you've actually experienced it yourself.
In the South, when the humidity starts to creep back up and it's still cold...it becomes a bone chilling, numbing, damp cold that just sinks in even though the temps are starting back up.
We are cheering you on from Pensacola, FL! My friend and I are planning a trip next spring on the AT. Thank you for being so “real” in your videos…when you accidentally burned your food pack we were like..thank goodness we aren’t the only ones that do stuff like that!! Be safe!
Thanks for daily posts - look forward to following your progress. You maybe need to eat more than 2,000 calories/day in the cold! Keep up the fabulous photography, your Melly looks great!
Guten Tag ! I have seen your "Gear List" but it actually nice to see you using it, thanks for taking your time to show us the Nature around you as you go just stunning views, bleib Gesund Danke
Hey Jay! Yeah you gotta eat more man! I would say 3k at least. I know it’s hard but we want you healthy and fueled for adventure! I am loving those bum gloves, are they wool? Blood mountain shelter is so beautiful and I love the stone construction. So much embodied energy, it makes me reflect on what it was like to actually build such an awesome structure. Shame that people essentially vandalized the shelter, I hope it gets cleaned up soon. You are totally right about your views today, some of the best I’ve seen. I really enjoyed the audio today. The clips where you walked past the camera were so life like! I totally connected with your words about seeing all of these spots in so many video and how it’s so much more impactful in person. I can not wait to be able to experience more of the AT in that way. Thank you so much for such a long video today, we really appreciate your efforts 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
This is completely arm-chair reading/watching videos but I read your hunger doesn't really kick in for the first few days, and it's hard to make your stomach immediately adjust to bunches of calories
Disappointing that hikers abandon their gear at Blood mountain shelter. They must have gotten pretty cold and left their gear. I have used blood mountain as a shake down hike for my scouts before taking them to Philmont Scout Ranch NM . Happy hiking !!
I started following you when I was fitting out my 4Runner for camping, and now here you are hiking my favorite trail. I’m really enjoying seeing it through your eyes. Unfortunately it’s not uncommon for a lot of gear to be abandoned on Blood Mountain. Usually it’s cheap gear or just blankets and things, from folks who thought they’d hike up for a night and quickly discovered how windy and cold it is in that shelter. It took 3 trips to get all of that out - and the poor broom. 🔥😫 It’s less than a month old, replaced recently after we discovered the old one broken on a December maintenance trip. Why people keep trying to build fires inside a 90 year old historical shelter is beyond me.
... Some were not raised to appreciate or respect anything ,, to some it's a 90 year old historical shelter (if only the walls could talk) .....But to others is just a shed .... where vandalism and disrespect of property is their norm .. and it's getting worse all across the country ...
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing, Jay! I follow way too many hikers as well but I sure love seeing places in the world that I might never get to see in person.
Great cinematography matched with equally important music score... knocking it out of the park with all things considering that you're wasting away body fat amd burning mucho calories to keep all bodily functions operating in the frigid, below freezing temps... I'm glad to see morale is high and you're re-armed, re-fit and re-charged! GET SOME!!! Personally, I'd be a hot mess just to keep moving and functioning, let alone the filming, editing and production work... it's always a pleasure seeing the trail from your perspective.... keep on trucking Alias!
My old boots are still up there 20:07! Those aren't all from alcohol stoves, dude. A lot of those are people using their canister stoves with windscreens..
How's your buns of Jello coming along Jay? Hope your legs are feeling better. Oh PLEASE eat Jay. We want you to finish the AT & you know your body is Already starting to talk to you. Did chuckle hearing your groupie squeee seeing you.
I think you are assuming everyone gets a view when they summit Blood mountain. When we went over it was pouring rain and so foggy you couldn’t see 15 feet. But I do agree, seeing the view you got to enjoy, that it would inspire you to continue.
Back in 73 Blood Mountain was covered in clouds for me. It was lost in thick fog. Mountain Crossings didn't exist. We simply walked on by and headed on.
I saw a lot of tables on A.T. that had metal plates areas for alcohol stoves. . That stone shelter is a work of art. Early on there is often stuff left behind when so called hikers call it quits.
The first thru hikers I watched were Campfire Confidential. They did an amazing job with videography, music and narration. I’ve watched dozens of thru hiking vlog since then. I have to say that your video skills, narrative and photography and music are so well balanced and just so enjoyable to watch! You are already showing some areas of the popular sites that others haven’t. Keep up the amazing presentations!
Beautiful view from Blood Mountain! Well someone was excited to see you. The flow beneath the ice was beautiful. Never seen anything like that before. First video that I have seen the inside of that store. Nice place to rest. I have seen two other places in the US with shoes thrown into a tree. I do not remember the reason why. One place is in Northern Michigan and the other was I think off the Natchez Trace in Mississippi. Blessings and safe hiking.
Excellent quality videos. Really appreciate the time you are taking to get the footage, backtracking for your equipment. Makes a huge impact to the storytelling that you are excelling at. Thank you for the dedication and time to make compelling videos.
Plan your P trips..good advice Jay. Those are the nuggets I enjoy hearing. Awesome cinementography! Love the water flowing under the ice. Great content. ONWARD!!
Thanks Jay! One of the best videos I’ve seen on this iconic part of the trail. Really enjoyed it! It motivate me to go out there and keep filming as I used to do long ago when I started my channel. Thanks for sharing!
Another great video, you are doing a good job! I like that you show what happens "in town". I wish I could have seen dinner at the B&B. If you are shivering at bedtime try having a couple of pieces of candy.
First time seeing your video, Jay 🙂 Lisa Ray sent me your link. I enjoyed your trail time and sharing. Hope to serve you when you come through TN. God bless and keep you safe on your epic journey❣️🙏🏻 Katahdin, here Jay comes❣️Happy Trails, hiker❣️❣️🥰
Alright Jay, just got my coffee - 6:15 out here on the West Coast. Nice Sunrise here, no clouds, trees silhouetted and shining Venus in the sky. Really like your long videos and details! BTY, got several Pgytech camera mounts thru your Zon links :) am also a patreon to help a bit :)
Hi Jay been really enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work. I'm glad your enjoying yourself it really shows. I hope to be doing this soon myself. I'm glad your fascinated at all the little things it keeps it interesting. I'm the same way. Stay warm!!! O by the way I think black bears are hibernating this time of year. I heard you mention them.
Yeah sadly I quit at Neel gap as well, but I was only doing a section hike. I went inside mountain crossings to resupply. And it started pouring rain. One of the employees asked me if I had checked the forecast. I checked and saw it was 90% chance of rain for the next 3 days. So he got in head, and made me think "Do I want to be miserable on my vacation?" 🤔 Lol.
Appreciate your thoughts and tips in your videos. It’s very helpful for a future Thru hiker. I’m really enjoying your videos and journey. All the best.
Hey Jay!! I'm really enjoying watching your progress on the AT! I love your positive attitude. Absolutely hikers can loiter😂😂. I'm from NJ and I hiked the trail through my state last summer. Looking forward to following you.
The drops and rivulets of water sluicing beneath the iced-over rocks is an incredible image. Artistic photography, wow!
Thank you Marine. I was an Army Cav Scout. I dream of hiking the AT, and like you, I enjoy AT vlogs. You’re definitely quickly becoming one of my favorites… if not my absolute favorite. Wow! Awesome view from Blood Mtn 🍀 “Oh, dude, are you Jay?! Aaaaaaaaaaaa!” 😂 you are a super star 💫
“Plan out your pees.” Words of wisdom young Jay. (Trust me, it becomes even more important when you get older.)
Truer words have never been spoken.
I hiked to Blood mountain two weeks ago (Jan 29th) and all that junk was there. I threw the jacket in the corner. So the stuff has been in there for at least two weeks possibly more. No idea. Either someone abandoned their hike or they were squatters?
Love that hiking tip! Perhaps all those people that quit had a cloudy day on the summit of Blood Mountain and didn't realize what they were missing.
I’ve been watching videos of AT hikes for years, yours is like seeing for first time❤you have such a beautiful insight. Thank you
Thank you! I definitely didn't want it to be like most of the others and hopefully I keep it up.
"Dude" are you, Jay!" so funny, The shoe tree is amazing, some of those shoes are decades old 👍
I was shocked to see really old leather shoes up there. All the videos I've seen were zoomed way out.
Pearls of Wisdom ~ "Plan your pees." 🤣😎👌 Great advise though!!! Thanks for sharing your journey
Jay, you were a celebrity on video 4 impressive! I love hiking, but the most days out I've down has been 3 days on trail. Upmost respect for thru hikers.
My favorite thru hiker had to finish her hike early 😪 But…. she gave you a shout out. So glad she did! Now I just need to catch up 👍
How funny with the camera catching fans!!
Hey Jay, you've got your first groupie!!!!!!! She was funny.
Hey Thanks another great video brother
I really love following along on your hike.Your photography is so wonderful .I do believe that you did have the best view at Blood Mountain that I have ever seen..I too watch tons of AT videos and it's never that beautiful.Maybe that's why others quit - hard to get up the mountain and then no views to make it so worthwhile.Because I agree when I see so much beauty I want to hike on.
That shot of water running under the ice and leaves was so intriguing. I appreciate the process of watching you gradually adjust to trail life.

The melting ice over the leaves is awesome. Semper Fi.
The ice melt on rock was a cool shot.

The first couple of weeks you tend to be a "little" jacked up making it hard to be hungry. That'll change.
I finished my 65th birthday section hike at Bull Gap. I can say I went a mile beyond Neel Gap😁
Jay, your attention to the little things makes your videos a treat to watch! Eat!!!
Guten Tag ! I have seen your "Gear List" but it actually nice to see you using it, thanks for taking your time to show us the Nature around you as you go just stunning views, bleib Gesund Danke
Nice update Jay! Thank you for sharing!🥾🥾⛺️
Good video, with some great beautiful views, so let's keep on hiking
Fantastic Blog Jay, thank you!
With your positivity I think you will complete the whole trail
Enjoyed the tadpoles swimming under the ice.
I was there today, hiked from Woody gap to Blood mountain, round trip 17 miles ,the view from the top just beautiful

You're making great miles and very cold weather. Awesome job and thank you for including us
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing, Jay! I follow way too many hikers as well but I sure love seeing places in the world that I might never get to see in person.
Great point on the alcohol stove and placement for cooking, enjoying the videos keep them coming.

A true gentleman, taking the time to share
Love this style of documentation. You give us so much of the trail life. Well done.
I thought for sure you would edit my loud mouth out of your video! This totally made my day! It was so nice to meet you!
Pleasure meeting you as well!
My old boots are still up there 20:07! Those aren't all from alcohol stoves, dude. A lot of those are people using their canister stoves with windscreens..
Love you narrative and pearls of wisdom. Look forward to your next video.
Wow, what a mess in the shelter…looks like abandoned equipment. Super nice views up there today!
That tree...with those shoes hahah. Love that title.
I absolutely love the whimsical music with the shoes blowing in the wind. I’ve enjoyed all you stuff, but I’m really excited about the AT. Stay safe
I enjoyed your video, thanks. Nice report on Blood Mt.
How's your buns of Jello coming along Jay? Hope your legs are feeling better. Oh PLEASE eat Jay. We want you to finish the AT & you know your body is Already starting to talk to you. Did chuckle hearing your groupie squeee seeing you.
Thats awesome!!! Hearing them recognize you was great. Keep warm out there!!!
You have that humid cold now its different here in the South goes right through you

Another gorgeous video w fantastic commentary!
Enjoy your video beautiful scenery stay warm
So enjoying your vlogs!! I'm with you all the way to Katahdin. ...
On a clear day you can actually see Atlanta from the top of Blood Mountain. I’ve seen it once, and it was amazing.
Back in 73 Blood Mountain was covered in clouds for me. It was lost in thick fog. Mountain Crossings didn't exist. We simply walked on by and headed on.
I am enjoying your blogs so much , because of age and balance issues I can’t do AT now so I am vicariously enjoying the AT thru you.
Thanks for great videos! Enjoy the trail!
Love the music you were playing at Mountain Crossings Magical!
I saw a lot of tables on A.T. that had metal plates areas for alcohol stoves. . That stone shelter is a work of art. Early on there is often stuff left behind when so called hikers call it quits.

Beautiful photography. Just joined your channel.
i recently learned on TH-cam that there’s an explanation for those balanced rocks & it ain’t erosion!!🙀
I down a Justin’s peanut butter at 8pm every night so I don’t get “the shakes” (shivers.) Works every time!
Best shoe tree footage we’ve seen!
Excellent video, thanks for sharing:)
GREAT JOB
Awesome views!!! Loved the meeting of other hikers too, fun cameos.
Wow! The view!

Another great video Jay. Looks like you’re having a blast already.
Love your videos and I'm enjoying watching your AT hike! You're doing great 👍
Jay, the "splendor" music you played for the shoe tree was perfect! 😆
Wishing the best as you journey Northwood. Thanks for sharing your hike.
Another great video!
Hikers quit 'cause they don't have random people shrieking: "Are you Jay?!!" Yeah, tenting inside shelters - don't be that guy. Looking good, Jay.
Hello 👋 Jay, thank you for another tag along. Continued good things for you. Stay safe out there. 🤗

Nice shots Jay. Especially the water flowing under the ice that was cool! By the time I hit the trail mid March you'll probably be in Virginia
Awesome beautiful outstanding vlogging, hiking and scenery, all the very best, fantastic accommodations.
I really enjoy your AT videos! Brings back a lot of memories of backpacking Springer to Unicoi Gap many years ago. Happy trails!

Thanks for the pee tip.
Love the videos Jay. You’re doing great. I’m rooting for you. 💪👍
Love all your details. Your comments are just priceless. Not enough calories to burn to warm you up before bed? More fat into your food?
Your doing great! I have learned so much from your pre trail videos. I'm enjoying your adventure 👍
