Bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter Morten Veland states:
“'Twist in my Sobriety' is the first single from our upcoming album entitled 1977. This is the bonus track of our 11th album, and it is a cover version of Tanita Tikaram's original from 1988. I have loved this song since it was released, and it has a very melancholic vibe to it, so it felt like an interesting project to make a SIRENIA version of it. I hope that you will enjoy it while we wait for the upcoming album release”

I LOVE THIS! Emma's voice is perfect for this groovy song. Then the band starts swapping positions, which was hysterical. And because no one else seems to have picked up on this - they then interleave video from the late January 70000 Tons of Metal Cruise. I was unfortunately unable to make that event, and it means a lot to be able to see some of that joy here in this video. (no, I didn't know it is a cover, but IDC). Love this, love this, love this!
I absolutely LOVE this HEAVIER yet equally beautiful version of one of the most amazing melancholy songs of the 80s &, even though it stays true original, its emotional & melodic atmosphere also makes this new take equally enjoyable to listen, and another thing: Tanita’s original version had a different 3rd verse than this one 👂 🎧 🥹 😭 🥲 🤩 😻 🥲 😍 😻 🤩 💗 ❤️ 💕 👍 💯

To be honest, I hadn't listened to anything from Sirenia after The Enigma of Life, until I came across this song on my FB feed, and I liked it. Maybe I'm more of a lower-tone-voice person or maybe I didn't like Ailyn's voice enough to continue following the band's material. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I prefer this voice, even though my favorite one was Monika's. Anyway, I think I'm going to listen all their latest material in order to have a more solid opinion.

It's the bonus track of the album, it doesn't sound like the rest. So in a way it's a cool idea to announce the album, without revealing too much about its sound^^

@@VampireJack10 Are you sure you know the old Sirenia? This cover doesn't thrill me either, but it's a separate song so it doesn't count for me. Sirenia's last album (Ridless Ruins and Revelations) was a return to their typical style, with an even more modern touch and I liked it better than the first 2 works with Emmanuelle's voice.
Sirenia from the beginning was an evolution of Tristania, with a more hooky and electronic sound, do you remember the sound of At Sixes and Sevens or An Elixir for Existence?
The albums where Sirenia did get closer to Tristania type instrumentation were the last two with Aylin. Perils of The Deep Blue for being the band's most symphonic album to date. And The Seventh Life Path for being their heaviest album and equally more complex in melodies.
@@MichaelBradley1967 Sirenia suffers from the constant change of vocalist. The vocalist of their debut was Fabienne Gondamin and few remember her by name, yet her voice marked a legendary album. On Sirenia's second album the vocalist was Henriette Bordvik. On the third album it was Monika Pedersen and here Sirenia increased their fame. Then on the fourth album came Ailyn Giménez and she was with them until the album The Seventh Life Path in 2015. Emmanuelle Zoldan is the vocalist since then, it seems that she was already part of the Sirenian Choir.

Oh well - don't want to sound to ... harsh. But I'm deeply missing the things that made the original so special: The oboe (hautboy) and this haunting drums. The voice is OK, but brings nothing really new. Finally - it's a song that's hard to cover because it is so unique. But thanks for trying (and I'm meaning this in an humble way). I was not catched by this cover but maybe others.
