Pretty sure they also said that it went both ways. Schmidt and the other management didn't put in much (maybe any) effort to keep him or make him feel welcome. Dunno if I'd be arsed if that was the case.
Fully agree with Zebo not being picked. As a small country without the resources of France we have to blackmail our players and be under no illusion that is what we are doing. We are keeping are players national for less money with the caveat that they can play for Ireland. As a Munster man I still agree with Zebo not being picked for Ireland, but the same rule should apply to all players who have alternative options in their position i.e Sean O'Brien once he signed for London Irish shouldn't have been an opinion as their was alternatives in his position until his injury he was being still spoken about playing
munsterfloyd Sexton was completely irreplaceable, no other 10 in the country came close to him and our game plan was centered around him. Not the same with zebo
It just seems Zebo and Schmidt don't like each other....But from a French point of view, this rule seems a bit close-minded. Les Bleus had no problems selecting Picamoles when he was playing in England for instance. And 90% of the French football team plays abroad, that did not stop them from winnning the WC.
It's kind of difficult for me to accept that these rulings help strengthen our domestic team when South Africa and Australia have significantly improved through the additions of players such as James O'Connor, Nic White, Handre Pollard, Lealiifano, Faf de Klerk, Le Roux...especially with the amount of players South Africa have brought back into their squad, it's been a revelation for these two teams and has turned them into serious WC contenders overnight. We have promising talent in Ireland who have to find opportunities elsewhere and consequently rule themselves out. Joe Schmidt once rebuked Eddie Jones by complaining about only being able to choose from 4 squads. Well what if we allowed our players to go abroad? Then we'd have plenty more teams to choose from and we'd allow for more opportunities for the latest young players who are struggling to get a chance behind well-established names.
BOD n ROG spot on if you make an exception then gates open, what about James Ryan / Murray / Stockdale / CJ / TF... they could all head over to England / France and make 2...3..4 times what they are on lets not kid ourselves that that is the case. BUT THEY STAYED and Zebo knew when he signed that was that so good luck to him and if he decides to head back well good luck to him then also.
He's a good enough player and on talent should go. Yeah he should have tried to hit the metrics from Joe but he didn't and he moved. Metrics aside. If he stayed he'd be in the squad. He's a quality player and I've no idea and simply don't get the hate for him. If someone could explain besides a personal dislike it would be nice. So many Irish fans, who I disagree with, seem to enjoy slagging him for simply going. So much hate.
@@kieranduggan3439 if there are rules which dont allow an overseas player to play well thats the rule. Its more to do with with Sextons ' face fitting'. Everyone is replaceable.
@@RedClayFH 10 is too important a position to not have the very best there, there was nobody at the time anywhere near Sexton's level in Ireland.. we have other wingers, it's not a big deal as the lads said he'd be in the squad if eligible but not a guaranteed starter under Schmidt.. it would still be earls and Stockdale starting and Conway seems to fit Schmidt's style of play perfect so Zebo just another number really
Sexton, on form, is the best player in the world at what he does. He's also borderline talismanic, for better or for worse. Simon Zebo is good, but he isn't Sexton
Joe the school teacher has his favorites in the class, unfortunately the likes of Zebo don't feature, which is strange for a kiwi given their attacking genius and flair.Sexton wont be here for ever and I will be blessing myself every time he gets tackled in Japan, I fear another quarter final exit is looming.... Zebo took the easy way out. Was struggling to nail down a spot in the Irish team when he was at Munster. He didn’t want to stay and put in the work and jumped ship to France. Now he spends his time on social media looking for attention by getting his followers to tell him he should be playing for Ireland.
I just love BODS grin as he waits for ROG to answer the question. These two lads were wonderful players.
And great commentators of the game
Could listen to those two discuss rugby all day
Pretty clear what the lads are saying is if zebo was arsed putting in the effort he'd be there. He's not. The end.

@Cyrus Khalid Yup, been watching on Flixzone for months myself :D
@Cyrus Khalid Thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) Appreciate it !
@Emmitt Parker no problem :)
The rule was very flexible when Johnny Sexton was playing in France so you have to think that if Smith really wanted Zebo , he would get him.

We need Zebo now more than ever, to shake things up. Such a talent great hands.

Zebo was outstanding and new Zealand in soldier field..shame he's not there
His lazy attitude is no loss
Shame Zebo isn't coming back to Munster

He should go better than Kearney imo
Baz L better then rob or Dave?
As a wing better than Dave and at FB better in attack than Rob. Rob probably better in defence.
