I'm a Leinster man but O'Connell doesn't have the coaching success ROG has. You have to earn that as club head coach and O'Connell, while a great assistant coach week had transformed our scrum success, he had zero head coaching experience and that's very different to being a scrum coach and focusing on one area. ROG has the better CV so even I as a Leinster man would be outraged if O'Connell got it over him

Superficial reasons. Poc is involved with the Irish set up, he knows the systems and clearly has a close relationship with the players. Rog is obviously a proven head coach now, but it’s hard to judge how the players will react to him, especially given the amount of Leinster players involved with Ireland. And I’m sure BOD has talked to a few of them. This is a bit more complicated as to just who has the better cv.

Changing the Irish coaching staff 😂 This is a ridiculous discussion. Maybe bringing him in as a consultant before the RWC in his current form and knowing the Irish players, is about it. Pointless to be talking about head coach succession now.
If Andy Farrell left tomorrow then one of the current Irish coaches are the only ones who should step up. Playing really entertaining rugby, a series win in NZ, a grand slam, beat South Africa and Australia, only lost to France at home the previous year. Why is there even a conversation here.
Down the line if ROG is still producing results at the club level, and if Scott Robertson does a good job going from club to test head coach, then maybe consider him, otherwise possibly give him a side role.

BOD is way off on this one, POC is years behind on the head coach process. ROG has done the hard yards and the time spent with Robertson at the crusaders cannot be understated as the massive springboard for ROG’s learning. Mark my words Scott Robertson is unique, and will go down as one of the best head coach’s in rugby, people like ROG will be needed on the international scene to be able to compete. The set up in the crusaders thought ROG about understanding people, the players, the family’s, the fans, the brand, the environment, the winning dynasty feel and most importantly how to maintain it and separate good from great! That’s what he meant about the journey(not about rugby comment). BOD has a great affection for POC which is obvious but he is way off on his prediction or opinion. If ireland let ROG slip it will be to their own detriment.

  • @Colin_Power
    @Colin_Power ปีที่แล้ว

I think the most interesting point of what BOD is saying is he feels the IRFU view POC as next in line before ROG. But look it we know the IRFU or the D4s arent ROG's biggest fan. We know that from the send off or lack there of.
So ROG was very definitely cast aside and is more likely to take a test coaching position with another union, but that can also be said of donnacha ryan. The IRFU in their infinite wisdom denied Ryan a centralised contract when he was arguable the best lineout operator in the country. I know this was one of the reasons Ryan moved to france and played on as a central figure for Racing.
A lot munster supporters remember this with bitter regret considering other high profile players with long term injuries had their IRFU contracts renewed. It was seen as clear preferential treatment for leinster players.
The merits of comparing ROGs career with Paulies are zero here because ROG is in head coach territory vs Paul being in the assistant category albeit one is at test level and the other at club level. ROG prepares his team as if its a test team and to be fair he is dominating the absolute highest level of club rugby and you could argue that LAR team would beat most test level opposition. It would be interesting if he organised for some touring nations to play LAR just to see how it would play out.
I do take BODs point that succession planning is extremely important to maintain momentum but that would imply a continuation of systems with incremental changes. In fairness thats not what weve seen with this current Ireland team. Andy farrell has revolutionised the way Ireland play while keeping some core fundamentals ( some of which Paul is responsible for ) ie the breakdown. Ireland have a completely new attacking system even down to how they run into contact, guys now run at the gaps between defenders looking to stretch them and lay the ball off where previously they ran straight into bodies with the aim of wearing the opposition down physically.
So for me thats not a continuation but rather a revolution and thats why it took them some time to build reps.
In summation IMO if ROG becomes available at round about the same time as the Ireland Job whenever that happen then you simply cannot turn down that opportunity because youll have to face him regardless and got proven headcoach credentials.

Would La R beat most national sides? Similar to Man City who could beat any national side.

The Munster side from the 2000-2015 period spears to have produced quite a few coaches coming through now. POC, ROG, Jones, Holland, prendergast, leamy, Flannery, Fogarty ect, from the comparative Leinster team there appears to have been less coaches coming through. Cullen could be argued is more a manager type than coach & probably a Leicester coaching product where he learned more about professionalism that he brought back with Jennings. More of the Leinster contemporaries appear to be talkers, did they do more time in Media studies? Quinlan is the exception for Munster obviously.

Oh yeah totally unbiased from BOD I don’t think so he is jealous and devastated his d4 buddies have lost again they all thought they would win it and ROG has turned them over once again and this time in their own back yard!! Don’t think ROG will give a hoot what BOD’s opinion is he has done nothing since his playing career and his ego misses being the centre of attention

Would ROG be as effective without massive units like Skelton, Atonio and Botia?
POC took an under-performing Irish pack and has made them absolutely world-class.

ROG is the best head in the world right now. 3 Finals in a row and the possibility of the double with the TOP 14 .....whats Brian smoking 😅😅
