I was going to have to pay thousands to have my continuous, laminate floors redone because of the squeaking. A couple of $12 bottles of bike chain wax have made my floors silent. Can’t believe the fix was this easy.
@@baikerboy2010 I reapplied a little more after the floors became louder after a 1.5 months. I suspect temperature impacted the wax. All in all this was a massive improvement.
This worked wonderfully well on my 12mm thick laminate flooring. I had some problem spots between planks that would creak when walked over, and this solution completely quieted those areas in seconds. I used Finish Line Ceramic Wax Bicycle Chain Lube in particular, so I can recommend that product. This is a must try if you have this problem.
incredible and such an easy looking fix. I wondered if the liquid form of this wax is an issue to the laminate composite as it soaks in? liquid and laminate are not compatible ?

Hello There, Its 1 year old home and we just finished basement with no access to basement ceiling. We observed floor sweaks on vynl floor, does this option work on Vynl floor too? Any recommendations on what products to buy?
I have about 700sq of laminate that creaks. Would putting this in every crack be too much? Would it be impossible to replace the floors with all that wax in between?
I’m a huge fan of the channel, I’m wondering what’s a better option between sonopan with quietrock530 or quietrock545 for bedroom walls. They both end up to be 1-3/8” Thx! Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much! I would personally go with the quietrock530 and Sonopan. I’ve had the chance to learn a bit more about the product and will be making a video about it in the near future!
I will try this. My laminate flooring creaks a lot which I believe is due to the flooring being lad on uneven particle board. I wonder if there is a way to fill under the board without redoing them?
I am confused. The bottle you are holding up appears to be WD-40 Wet Chain Lubricant, which the manufacturer says does not contain wax (and might also stay a liquid?). WD-40 dry chain lube also contains no wax. Another TH-cam video recommends Finish Line Wax Bike Lubricant (black bottle) but I am finding that hard to source locally. Stores here do sell Finish Line Dry Lubricant, which goes on similarly but does use a synthetic oil (with Teflon). I can also easily get Finish Line Ceramic Wax Chain Lube and White Lightning Clean Ride MTB Wax Lube. Which of the products I named do you think would work well?
I had similar thoughts on difference between WD-40 wet vs dry chain lube. Thanks for mentioning the finish line wax as I plan to try that out as well (it was readily available on amazon). I suspect the differences between each brand are going to be slight (likely not noticeable) and the lubricant will either work or not for everyone's individual use case. Hope you're able to find a resolution..
As someone who’s admittedly fine with half assing this (it’s in a spare room and i need to stop buying stuff for a single use lol) can I use regular WD-40 that I already have?
@@GenericScreenName808 No. Regular WD--40 does not contain wax, which is the key ingredient that stops squeaks. It might work right away but the squeak will likely come back after a short time.
What do you recommend if the seams aren't large enough to put the wax between two laminate floor pieces (as in the laminate floors are too close together)?
It might need to if the rubbing pieces are too tight or too loose. A lot of the time simple lube can work but in other cases you might need to pull the floor up and make the necessary repairs.

Is it still silent?

What kind of wax?

Would this work for real wooden laminate/floating floor?

Thank you for this video. I have found the tips really helpful. What is the name of the specific bicycle chain wax you have here in this video?
Sorry for the late reply, It is wd-40 wet chain lube.
WD-40 is not wax, it is oil.
Does this work with herringbone

Hi, I have the exact same issue. Could you share your experience if you find a way to fix it?
Any success with that?
Worked like a charm! Thank you.
Awesome! Thanks for letting us know!! 😊
I am very excited to try this fix!
Let me know how it turns out!! 😊
What is the brand name of the wax?
Tried reading through comments. Could not find the name of the wax suggested. Could anyone provide the info please. Thank you in advance.
Just saw a comment saying it was wd-40 wet chain wax
@@ElizabethRachael thank you
Will def try it. What's to lose
Let me know the results! 😊

Which video should I watch for squeaky engineered hardwood floors?
Finish nails works good? Or bad idea since the laminate needs to expand
It works well for hardwood floors but you're correct, nailing laminate floors might cause more problems for you.
I have a question about the safety of the bicycle lube wax. Do you know if it's safe around children and pets?
I'm not sure. It goes into the seams so I wouldn't worry about it. I've heard that most cleaning products are toxic...
I found a plant based version. Going to try it out. We have a kids and pets.
What do you recommend if the seams aren't large enough to put the wax between two laminate floor pieces (as in the laminate floors are too close together)?
Should get in there regardless these waxes are designed to do that you might have to apply it a bit more than he said
If the squeak is coming from underneath the vinyl board piece, (wd-40 in the seam has zero effect), will the vinyl laminate floor need to come up?
It might need to if the rubbing pieces are too tight or too loose. A lot of the time simple lube can work but in other cases you might need to pull the floor up and make the necessary repairs.
I've found that WD-40 works well on my floating floorboards (that have been laid on a concrete slab, and can't be accessed from underneath)
Thanks for sharing! Do you find that the squeaks comes back fairly quickly and then have to reapply?
@@soundproofguide Not too bad actually....I typically reapply every 3-4 months.
How if it’s laminate though I have beyondddd squeaky floors only in the bedrooms and it drives me nuts!!
This is what I was looking for, I just need a quick fix and had WD-40 on hand
What about turtle wax for cars?
wd-40 for wet chains is oil, do you recommend this lubricant? thank you
Mine don't squeak. They have like a cracking sound like I am walking on cardboard. I hate it. It sounds cheap.
What’s your solution??
@@engineerfreak4808 Well all the other rooms I did were engineered hardwood and I love it!
@@engineerfreak4808 Don't know about what to do about the laminate floors so that is why I got engineered hardwood instead.
This is the same problem I have😢
