This song is about how the recording company's wanted him to sound like other artists. he was commonly likened to Freddy Mercury. Hence the i could be Freddy oooooo part of the song. but he does have a similar sound.

He's NOT a Freddie imitator at all and doesn't try to be. He's got his own distinctive sound and yes, he's the only singer today who could even come close to doing justice to a Queen song. His spirit comes across as very Freddie-esque, a good heart. Adam Lambert can't hold a candle to Mika!
Mika was *fantastic* as a host of Eurovision. Probably the best one there's ever been. There's something to be said for a fluent English speaker who can improv without being cringe, and still perform live.

I remember it repeatedly playing on Mtv the year of its release, you'd hear it in popular stores and on the radio. I almost got sick of this song... it has been far from underrated!
Well...at 72, I think I'm definitely old enough...never heard it before. Of course outside of Europe (yes Virginia, ... there are other countries besides U.S.A. and Britain) I barely even made any top 100 lists.

I agree to a point. Mika's timbre is a bit more rich and loud than Freddie Mercury's, but there are parts where the style is very similar. 1:47 - 2:10 sounds very similar to Freddie Mercury and Queen's overall style.

Anyone who has had to be the tenor in any choral setting (myself included: 6th chair tenor out of 50 in the Arizona High School All-State Choir. Ended up chosing orchestra as the bass bone) has had to inevitably do the transition between chest and falsetto. Still, this guy seems to have nailed down AND pressure sealed. Great performance!

Against all medical advice, I still managed to fly down from Vegas to Tucson (State was being hosted by U of A) to perform. Visiting director (who was also Director of Choirs at University of Washington) was so impressed, the guy literally called me his hero...and I do mean literally; those were his exact words. Eh, all thar shit was cool, but I don't wanna be that guy who's still stuck in the past. High school was at least pretty great for me, but dwelling on past glory is something that should be at least saved for resumea.

My favorite part of this song is the annunciation of “ violet “ sky , The way he spaces it out too “ vi -ol - et each syllable getting higher pitch just really is a great touch to get the song going on a upbeat tone that I don’t think gets enough credit.
I used to stay up all night during highschool having mental breakdowns and I remember sitting on my bed with no sheets miserable but then this song would come on when the sun came out each day and it would make me so happy, it was on mtv video wake up and everytime it came on I would just immediately feel better and it still makes me feel the same 10 years later.

first time I heard this song was 9 years ago, I was 8 and loved the song so much, but didn't know the name or the singer, and had never heard of youtube or about music stations on the radio. 4 years later I did hear it on the radio, and another 4 years later I heard a tiny part of the song in a tv commercial that said it was by Mika. I finally found the song and it is absolutely amazing!! This is the happiest I've been in months! :D

People saying this song is underrated are just not old enough to remember when it came out. It was literally number 1 in UK charts for over a month! I remember it repeatedly playing on Mtv the year of its release, you'd hear it in popular stores and on the radio. I almost got sick of this song... it has been far from underrated!
Well...at 72, I think I'm definitely old enough...never heard it before. Of course outside of Europe (yes Virginia, ... there are other countries besides U.S.A. and Britain) I barely even made any top 100 lists.

We're all a bit fake. We act how we think people will like us best and if people don't like it we change and we're constantly changing to fit in. We just want everyone to like us. Anyone who has had to be the tenor in any choral setting (myself included: 6th chair tenor out of 50 in the Arizona High School All-State Choir. Ended up chosing orchestra as the bass bone) has had to inevitably do the transition between chest and falsetto.

Against all medical advice, I still managed to fly down from Vegas to Tucson (State was being hosted by U of A) to perform. Visiting director (who was also Director of Choirs at University of Washington) was so impressed, the guy literally called me his hero...and I do mean literally; those were his exact words.
Eh, all thar shit was cool, but I don't wanna be that guy who's still stuck in the past. High school was at least pretty great for me, but dwelling on past glory is something that should be at least saved for resumea.

first time I heard this song was 9 years ago, I was 8 and loved the song so much, but didn't know the name or the singer, and had never heard of youtube or about music stations on the radio. 4 years later I did hear it on the radio, and another 4 years later I heard a tiny part of the song in a tv commercial that said it was by Mika. I finally found the song and it is absolutely amazing!! This is the happiest I've been in months! :D
+Luca Graveland I first heard it at my 9th birthday party and I remember how me and all my friends started trying singing along (having no clue on the words we sounded so stupid) and then when it finished had the like party person incharge to put it on like (I think) 37 times before we would let her change it this was literally the best birthday I had and I can just rember about 25 nine year olds screaming along to this song "WHY DONT YOU IEK ME" such a good memory
