@@jonathanwong458music the same is true of most of the original Fender designs. A Strat sounds like a Strat. A JB is a slightly more finicky, sound wise, although I have a cheap Tagima Jazz that I enjoy a lot.
A good setup works wonders for playability. I have had fret buzz when adjusted to the manufacturer's specs. Now I now use a combination and it works for me.
Right on! A lot also depends on how a player strikes the string too, so one person’s perfect spec can be unplayable in the hands of another. This squier plays pretty fast now. Thx for watching!
Thanks for shooting this video. There isn't a ton of the non PJ Affinity Squier P bass videos on TH-cam. I've only had mine for a few days and after adjusting the truss rod it plays pretty well. I will have to tweak the string lengths to adjust the intonation. I am speculating that since so many of these and similar items are purchased online that they are not properly set up before they reach the hands of the consumer. It's only been a few days since I bought mine from an very inexperienced player but I am a happy bassist.

Hi! Thanks for watching from so far away! The Player series (made in mexico) is a pretty good value. I think it is more or less what the old 'American Standard' used to be 5-6 years ago. The prices have all gone a little crazy high.....not sure what they are like in Chile. The Fenders coming out of Mexico now are more consistent now, but some are still better than others, so best to try if possible. The Player series is a noticeable tonal step up from the Squiers. Chile is the most expensive country in South America.......I am saving my pennies to buy the Fender Player ( deciding between Jazz or Precission) my hands are small ,good enough fpr the Jazz,but I like the Precission sound) thanks for replying ....keep up with your good work!!!👍
I saw a video somewhat recently of a pro guitar player vs luthier testing guitars to see if they could tell which was the more expensive one blindfolded. The luthier played a bit of a trick by making one of his picks for the player being an expensive guitar that hadn't bene setup since initial making like 100 years ago (so non modern style of setup at least) vs a very cheap modern guitar setup with all his skills and tricks. Player said he liked the sound of the expensive one but would take the cheaper one any day for actually playing or performing with ;) I've been trying to dig deeper into luthier type stuff but without tools or the space for tools, I settled on learning to do a really good full setup (leveling, crowning, etc). Then I got my PB20 SBK and it has bad fret sprout so that gave me a perfect first test subject for basically everything heh. Still in beginning stages but the PB20 is already better and doesn't double as a cheese grater at least. Thanks for the video :)
@@jonathanwong458music Frets are easy on a cheap bass. An amateur can easily get them to feel and sound good, although the fret ends won't look like they're supposed to. I won't touch the nut though.
@@jkf9167 yeah man. screw up the nut, it's replacement nut time! although I've done a quick hack repair with superglue once, where I went too deep. But yeah, leave that stuff to the pros
I love the way that nearly any P-Bass can be made to sound like a good P-Bass.

Why not just give the measurements you ended up with at the end of your setup lol found this informative and useless at the same time lol
Setup measurements do not always work across all instruments. Most of the time I go by feel over numbers. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.
