Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge - Full Speed Network Live Cam!

- One of the members of the Supermodel forum, who goes by the name of gm_matthew, decided to take it upon himself to have a look at getting the Supermodel Network working via a different route than the current method (which causes games to run at half speed). His method involves simulating the netboard, and by jove, he's only bloody gone and done it!
Daytona USA 2: Power Edition and Battle on the Edge can now both be run in a 2 Player network at full speed! Here's some footage of me playing in a networked game using player 2 as the 'Live Cam'.
I'm using both version of the emulator here on the one PC, but I've seen a video of someone else who's got a network running between his two cabinets. Awesome!
Congratulations gm_matthew ! You Sir, are a legenend! (He also comes from my home city, so you know he's a good 'un!).

I hope that the Forest Dome will be featured in the Daytona USA 30th anniversary sequel as an alternate pallette swap track for the Sega International Speedway as one of the retro tracks.

At this point I can’t claim any credit for the amazing work in recent years. :) I’m really happy that Supermodel didn’t fall by the wayside and that people are actively developing it.
Amazing to think it's been almost 10 years since you first asked me to be a playtester on your, at the time, unreleased Model 3 emulator. Don't know where the time has gone.

I think it's pretty cool that Daytona USA 2 actually has a live commentator for the multiplayer mode.
By the way, I was recently at a retro game store in Anchorage with the intent of buying a Game Shark for the Nintendo 64 so I could play Sin and Punishment on my American console, and I figured I may as well get a new game for the console as well. So on the shelf for three bucks, I found a copy of Nascar 99, and I was like, "Eh, why not"? You might not be very surprised by this, but the game was actually very bare bones when I played it. Though, it was made by EA Sports, so I don't know what I was expecting. Anyway, the game did have commentary, but it wasn't that great to be honest. Not to mention, the car physics were pretty bad. Also, I was genuinely surprised that it didn't include Daytona International Speedway as a race track. Like honestly, how do you make an official Nascar game and NOT include Daytona International Speedway? That being said, while Daytona USA 2 isn't meant to be realistic in the slightest, it surprisingly does a much better job of attracting audiences to Nascar than an official Nascar game on the N64! I already liked Daytona USA 2 since the first time I played it, but I think Nascar 99 just made me appreciate it a lot more.
What do you expect? NASCAR Games were way better on PlayStation.
Nintendo 64 is quite flopped because it's very limited on Storage Space.
@@retrocysper3709 Or maybe it's just that official Nascar games aren't even good in general. Don't blame the N64 for a bad game made by a mediocre developer. Besides, I'm pretty darn sure that Nascar 99 is exactly the same on both the N64 and Playstation.

Would it be possible to have only the audio of one of the two machine instances to hear the commentary / chrew chief interviews better?
Yep, you can change the settings for each. I'd actually turned the audio on the P1 screen right down and the Live cam screen right up to try and make it clearer, but the sound balance can be a bit of a juggling act in Supermodel.

What a drive, I can´t get to far with this car myself, how do you manage to keep it above 300kmh on turn 4?
The crash compilation was a lot of fun, how many attempts before getting the lap for the video?
Not too many, I can usually get 1st without too much trouble on the beginner if I'm using the Phantom - you'll notice in the crash compilation it's actually the CPU cars screwing me over each time because _they've_ crashed. All you need to do for turn 4 is just take your foot off the gas for millisecond and then turn and get back on it. You need to countersteer a bit as you go past the apex of the bend to try and avoid putting the car into a spin.
If you changed the game into Power Edition, the announcer still says Forest Island despite it has changed into Sega International Speedway.

Look back at the similar videos I uploaded using Daytona 2 Power Edition and Le Mans 24 just before this one.
The second interesting thing in the recent update is that you can enjoy link fruits with only one instance of supermodel3 that optimally saves Cpu load.
