I do agree ! He was older but he sang "better". Now that I'm older, I understand why genius like Pavarotti or La Callas died at "young" age. Their body, their heart had such a huge effort to do in order to sing so perfectly and so strong.
To provide some more information, "Nessun Dorma" (Nobody Sleeps) is the last aria in the opera "Turandot" by Puccini. It is particularly important because it is a benchmark for top Tenors...the final refrain of "Al alba Vincero" (I will win at dawn), "Vincero" (I will win), "VINCERO"(I WILL WIN)!!! requires them to hit and hold the "Tenor B4" note. IMO, it is one of the TWO BEST arias in opera history for Tenors along with "Vesti La Giubba" (Put on the Mask) from "Pagliacci" by Leoncovallo. To watch one of the best ever performances of "Vesti La Giubba", check out Mario Lanza's performance of it.
Lyirics in english and in italian: None shall sleep, None shall sleep! Even you, oh Princess, In your cold room, Watch the stars, That tremble with love And with hope. But my secret is hidden within me, My name no one shall know, No... no... On your mouth, I will tell it, When the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! (Chorus: No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win! Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Tu pure, o Principessa, nella tua fredda stanza, guardi le stelle che tremano d'amore, e di speranza! Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me; il nome mio nessun saprà! No, No! Sulla tua bocca, lo dirò quando la luce splenderà! Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio che ti fa mia! (coro: il nome suo nessun saprà e noi dovrem ahimè morir, morir) Dilegua, o notte! Tramontate, stelle! Tramontate, stelle! All'alba, vincerò! Vincerò! Vincerò!
If will notice on that last note, he looks like he is close to passing out. His mouth remains open. I think he's gasping for breath. I wouldn't do that more than once, but in another setting he does the same thing. He was so devoted to his music. 🤠
I love Pavarotti!! This song always gets me emotional - I finally discovered what “Vincero” means at the end of this song .... I WILL WIN ... I WILL CONQUER ....💗 Read what the song is about you will be crying 😭😭😭 You gotta react to Pavarotti & Brian May (Queen) sing live TOO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU. OMG!!
