I have a lot of trouble describing character’s appearances, because they can easily become a boring read. There was once when a friend asked me to describe her as if I was introducing her as a character in a novel, and I did so by comparing every aspect of her appearance to a stormy sea. I think that’s the happiest I’ve been with my descriptive writing.
@@ope_is_me ooh love that! sometimes writers are so literal, as if they are describing a picture of a person. but literature has its own tools: metaphor, interiority, narrative voice. they can do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to making description interesting!
