- On December 21st, 1988, ground control would lose contact with Pan Am Flight 103: a 747 named Clipper Maid of the Seas. Quickly it was realized she had broken up over the Scottish town of Lockerbie. As the authorities investigated, they discovered this had been no accident. Flight 103 had been intentionally destroyed by a bomb in a terrorist attack, killing 270 people.

I actually like the idea of you making multiple videos each covering different issues of Pan Am before you touch on the entire corporation itself. Can’t wait to see whichever issue of Pan Am’s you talk about next.
My father was on this same flight the day before it crashed, and had flown on Clipper Maid of the Seas several times. When he and my mother heard the news, she nearly threw up. Several of my father's coworkers were on this flight and a coworker who wasn't, knew someone who was killed on the ground.
Beautifully worded! I remember this tragic event very well (I'm that old!) We can only hope that this will be concluded soon. So the next-of-kin can finally move on with their lives.
Ugh... this incident was the tipping point that led to the downward spiral of a great airline, and the guy who ordered the bombing was only taken out - more than 30 years later, by his own people. Little consolation for the families of the victims, IMO.
I had to pause the video when it mentioned the Syracuse University students since a relative of mine was originally scheduled to be on that flight.
The decision to spend a couple more days in London saved their life.
I knew about Lockerbie before hand, but remember learning about this disaster during training to be a flight attendant/cabin crew in 2011, and the implications and security regulations etcetera out in place afterward but I never knew about those who passed away after impact
There is a grim post-script to this; fourteen year old Steven Flannigan of Sherwood Crescent had gone over to a neighbour's house to set up a new bicycle that was a Christmas present for his younger sister. While gone, a large part of the aircraft fell on his home, killing his sister and both his parents.
His older brother, who'd been living in England at the time, died in 1993, possibly a consequence of drug use as he struggled to cope with the loss of his parents and sister. Steven tried very hard to make a go of life but in 2000, in a suspected suicide, was struck and killed by a train.
I live near Detroit, and where one of my family is buried, is a memorial to the crash
Wow. Such a typical airline shame. I didn't hear these details. Airline gets warning. Uses warning to justify surcharge or rate hike but does nothing with money or to address warning. Wtaf.
Also never knew the laundry and free canteens. Thanks to the locals for this. They didn't have to but they did
With Pan Am being the focal point, I imagine the Tenerife disaster will be discussed soon
KLM was directly responsible for that one.
@alexhajnal107 I never said Pan Am was responsible. They were still involved, though.
I was in West Germany (in the USAF, Rhein Main AB) when this happened. I actually knew somebody that was supposed to be on Flight 103 but missed his flight as he didn't get to the airport on time.
Another commercial airline to focus on would be TWA.
RIP
To the passengers and crew of Pan Am Flight 103 and the 11 people on the ground
I stay in south west Scotland and can remember this event all too well. Rip to the 259 souls that lost their lives. 💔
Great video Darkness, RIP to all the souls lost in this tragedy.
Wasn't expecting the Lockerbie bombing to show up here
@@FireFan44 I’m an Independent Air Crash Investigator from Edinburgh Scotland with IACI. We are still actively investigating this incident because what the government is telling people is mostly fairy tales! We are all about the truth and we will expose them as we go along! Very strange 8 FBI agents turned up in Lockerbie within the hour and had been seen removing 6 bodies along with a few large suitcases. The CIA had also turned up with the FBI that night doing things I can’t disclose at the moment. The whole thing STINKS and we are going to get to the truth!
I had a cousin who passed away on that flight with her newborn baby 😔🙏🏽
So sorry may they have eternal peace 😢
@@Longlivetheking4014 thank you very much 🖤
Glad I found your channel. You really know how to spin a yarn.
My best friend’s dad was the despatcher on this flight when it left Heathrow. He signed off the load sheet. It departed from gate J15 which is known as the Lockerbie gate and said to be haunted. Always freezing cold
Some famous people were originally booked on it apparently. Holly Johnson from Frankie Goes to Hollywood & Alexander O’Neil but they both changed to different flights due to their schedules. Remember it like it was yesterday RIP to all the innocent victims
It sucks that the terrorist group that caused the attack is praised and called "anti-imperialists" disgusting.
A close relative of mine flew that flight just a couple of weeks prior so this event is a bit personal. What a pointless act. I remember hearing an interview with someone who had been on the connecting flight out of Germany. She described one gleeful young girl who was near her on the flight and who brought joy to her fellow passengers. The girl was on the onward flight to New York. As the woman put it, "You didn't deserve this."
I am having a hard time understanding that the alert wasn't looked into more. I flew on a different flight out of Frankfort the same day as this plane. I am not sure that I would have gotten on the flight if I had known about an alert.
Happy 4th of July!
Yeah I was in high school when this happened a Filipino from Long Beach she was one of the flight attendants on this ill-fated flights I also remember the video of the mother freaking out at the airport when she found out her daughter was on the flight.
The fine people of Lockerbie also formed a guard of honour for the departed as they were taken away which is about 1000 times more respect than the ghouls of Pan Am ever showed
R.I.P to all those now gone
Kia Kaha to those left behind
Well, this is a can of worms, because the cloud of "evidence" points so many ways. However, I admire you for tackling this, and may all analysis contribute to the future knowledge of this terrorist act.
bruh imagine being strapped into your seat...hell nah. God bless these families.
Well at least Gaddafi gots what coming to him.
WTF?! That's so tragic!^Thx. for sharing all facts you could gather. Bloody terrorists!
Is this prior to 9/11?
Yeah, it was 1988
9/11 was 2001
@@generalprincecodyhedgewolf2944 the answer to your question is 1988.
I think most people alive know what year 9/11 happened
@ yeah 4 planes were hijacked by Al Queda Terrorists and they Crash the 3 said planes into American buildings: the twin towers and pentagon the 4 Slammed into a feild
If anyone is In/visiting London (England) the imperial war museum has the dock/stand from the original trial on display
One wonders how things would have changed if the US had stood up to Khaddafi when he first came to power in 1969. Especially if the US had retained Wheelus AFB ln Libya.
Absolutely love the video but I pinky promise Heathrow Airport is not pronounced that way.
The A320 looking nicer than a B 727 hell no!
Happy Fourth 🎆🎆🎆
Not to mention another Pam am flight air Indiana was blown up back in 1985.
That wasnt a pan am flight, that was an air india flight out of canada.
Pan am didnt learn lessons from this event and put profit ahead of safety as they were struggling.
Although i personally dont think weve heard the full story on 103 i think shady organisations may have planted the device in london, not on malta like the narrative states
@oops my bad all those accidents happened so insanely close to each other. It’s natural that I’d get some details wrong.
I knew of this flight before finding this video as I learned of it from a Canadian show called Mayday
I also find it kinda funny how he tried to get the court of human rights to appeal his sentence... as if the victims of his crime didn't have their OWN rights... like did he really think people would ignore the victim's rights...
So much darkness. Anyone else have a large portion of video black ?
Never mind. It's just really dark at night animations. Really liked like black screen
The thing is, I didn’t even know about this until it was actually mentioned by Sex Pistols legend, Johnny rotten as he was actually booked to be on this flight and the only reason he missed it was because someone forgot the pack of suitcase or something like that.
Commercial planes rarely having names? 😆 passenger planes usually have
cargo door 747?
Any chance we can get an American Freedom Train video for 4th of July 2025 or 2026 for Americas 250th birthday
If they do a 2026 edition of the train one hopes there'll be less racism and revisionist history. Depends who wins the White House I guess.
this wasnt the worst terrorist attack in the uk fact 1 it was in scotland we are still haunted by it every christmas time to this day i have visted all locations oof the deebris field the crater rosebank crescent farmers fields got some good pics and videos such an eery feeling when walking down sherwood crescent then we went to tundergarth where the nose cone landed in the field right opposite the church we jst sat there in silence eating our lunch was a very weird feeeling but yes this happened on scotlands soil not the uk or english it was scotlands worst ever terorist attack x
But Scotland is part of the UK, so it IS correct.
Happy forth of July story eh! 😂
271 deaths is the UKs biggest aerial terrorist attack? Rookie numbers
Heth-row?
