    Join me as I spend 1 full day at Tokyo Disneyland. I test the limits of what feels like the most busy Disney park I've ever been to and see how much I can get done in 1 day at Tokyo Disney. I experience the best rides, attractions, parades and more. But even with all my Disney theme park years behind me, I am not ready for the crazy crowds that lay ahead.

    I really appreciate that you are presenting this from the viewpoint of a "big Disney fan" but not a hardcore apologist who can't acknowledge the reality of how things go at crowded theme parks. Incidentally, not sure if you've ever been to Shanghai Disney, but their Pirates of the Caribbean ride is NEXT-next-level. There is *actual* magic occurring on that ride. That's the only way I can describe it.

      Thank you. Yes, there is actually room for nuance on the internet lol. I have actually seen the pirates at Shanghai. I watched a video of it thinking it would be the same as others so broke my spoilers rule and then couldn’t take my eyes off it!

    The worst time to go is between friday-monday or on japanese holidays. The wait times are way shorter if you go between tuesday-thursday.

    Seeing your video does not make me miss Tokyo Disney one bit. I am half Japanese and lived in Tokyo for a few years with my Japanese wife and our two kids and we visited Tokyo Disney a few times. One thing I hated about Tokyo is that waiting in a long queue wherever you go is inevitable but the queues at Disney were insane. On our last visit there it was cold and raining and there were so many people in the park that the queues were too long and we ended up going on only two rides. The kids were upset and I was annoyed about the time and money that we spent to go there. We love the Disney parks since we also lived in Florida and were annual pass holders to Disney World but that last Tokyo Disney trip scarred us. We skipped Tokyo Disney our last visit back to Japan so we can enjoy time with our families instead of getting frustrated waiting in crazy long queues. Hats off to you for going through that for 12 hours.

      One thing I cut from the script for runtime was I’ve heard a reason why it’s so much busier in Japan. That Japanese people have a higher threshold for waiting so they either accept it for what it is, are more patient than the West, or just have nothing else they want to do lol. Whichever way you want to interpret it! ☺️

    I was at Tokyo Disneyland a week before you! 🤩 Thurs 3/8. My amount of planning is… (1) what rides are closed at which park (land/sea) then decide which park to go to. (2) We accept that Disney will be busy, so never on Fri-Sat, or a national Holiday! (3) take the train and just go about our day! (4) since we’re from Japan, we now skip the parades and fireworks to wait in line for rides that are usually long

    I can't imagine how crowded Fantasy Springs will be, people are insane going to TDR just to visit it when it first opens. I think they'll be in for a rude awakening since TDR has very inconsistent English support. I can understand Japanese so I don't have language issues, but I see many times how long it takes some people to check in due to communication issues. Or even try to ask questions at stores and can't communicate with people. Stuff like that will cause even larger lines as people are unprepared.

    My husband and me were there in 2017 and I think it’s the Disneyland with the most visitors, there were way too many people inside. Most rides had waiting times around 2-3 hours, the longest was Toy Story with over 5 hours!
    We had one day for Disneyland and one for Disney sea and we didn’t expect to ride and do everything in just one day, but we also didn’t expect to be able to do so little things. I think we only were able to ride 5 rides and watch the parade in Disneyland and only 6 rides in Disney sea … and these were almost only smaller rides like jungle cruise and pirates of the Caribbean…
    My husband was so disappointed, that he booked for Disneyland Paris after our Japan vacation and now we are almost every year in Disneyland Paris 😂

I am going to be at Tokyo Disneyland for one day in 2 weeks, and your experience completely answered a bunch of questions for me that you can't really get from just reading a blog. I have been hearing that the food lines were crazy, but looks like I'm going to want to mobile order something as soon as possible haha. Fingers crossed the crowds are a little lighter for me, but in everything I've seen lately the parks just have been packed.

  • @samcha9448

    Don’t go on a weekend or holiday, be at the gates 90-120 min before opening time, and for goodness sake, RUN at rope drop! Run until you can’t breathe, and then keep RUNNING! Or just pay for a timed entry later, especially if you do not have Happy entry 15 minutes before general admission.
    Do not miss the second park, Disney Sea, but you need a minimum of 1 day per park.
    Although the beauty and the beast ride is great, I don’t think it’s the best thing in the parks. They have other excellent rides, but some of the shows and parades are amazing.

    Fyi: the crowd calendar isn't really accurate because it doesn't account for possible biases such as seasonal events and Space Mountain closing. These crowds aren't a 3; they're more of a 6 or 7. Big Thunder Mountain and Hunny Hunt being closed also really inflated the wait times because both have high capacity and are really popular. Another reason why the park was really crowded was because it's spring break and Tokyo Disney is mainly targetted towards young adults (high school/college age) and not young children. To really avoid crowds, it's best to check the Japanese school schedules for holidays and avoid weekends at all costs. We also made the mistake of going to USJ during a weekend and were unable to enter nintendoland. Lastly, just don't go to the park if Hunny Hunt is closed. TDL is also just not as good as DisneySea, so if you have one day, just go there instead.

    • @SuitcaseMonkey
      @SuitcaseMonkey  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Thanks. Yeah I did look into the spring break thing but the calendar does take that into account (it even mentions it and add 4000) and I searched for school and uni holiday dates and they were all later in February.
      Good point about closed rides adding wait times for other rides but I guess there are usually one of two closed rides but good point.
      PS. This was a Monday.

    • @idk-zt8rx
      @idk-zt8rx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@SuitcaseMonkey the park is a bit busier on Mondays and Fridays too. A bit offtopic, but it's honestly quite sad that such a nice park isn't so casual-friendly anymore. You used to be able to do so much more by running to the fastpass machines of the rides you want to skip the line for. The machines also added a bit more to the immersion of the place.

    • @SuitcaseMonkey
      @SuitcaseMonkey  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @idk-zt8rx thanks for the reply. Yeah I know but the weather was even worse on Tuesday unfortunately. And again the calendar had it as a 3 but appreciate it’s just a guess but all I had to go on.
      I mention about the immersion near the end. That is my point also. That it didn’t used to be and maybe shouldn’t be this difficult all in all lol

    Man, I have to say that this video really impressed me! I hardly ever push the subscribe button even on channels I regularly watch for years, but apart from being insightful, your editing style and comical touches were so brilliant that I laughed out loud many times and I just had to immediately sub. (Also bonus points for that subtle "TDL was a whole other beast. But that's normally the beauty..." line haha, I see what you did there.)
    Re: the experience itself, it's sad that while TDR still remains the supreme of all Disney parks, even there it is increasingly harder to experience one gate fully in one day. Watching these kinds of videos reminds me of my MASSIVE luck that I probably did 3-3 days worth of attractions in just 1-1 days in Land & Sea back in Jan 19 (so still the paper FastPass era). It involved some immense planning but in DisneySea we did both Toy Story Mania and Tower of Terror twice(!), Journey, 20,000 leagues, Sindbad, Nemo, Aquatopia, Raging Spirits, Big Band Beat 1st row, Fortress, Jumping Jellyfish, Flying Carpets and ate at Magellans + Hemingways at night (Indy was closed) and we actually also explored the park without rushing to attractions. I think our biggest wait was 15mins lmao.
    As for Disneyland, our massive-massive luck included finding three tickets on the floor coming out of Monsters Inc, so with extra FastPasses we've done both Hunny Hunt and Monsters 3 times, 2 Splash, 2 Big Thunder Mountain, 2 Space Mountain, Alice, Mark Twain Steamboat, Pirates, Philharmagic, Celebrate Fireworks show, Jungle Cruise, It's a Small World, Snow White, Haunted Mansion, Western River Railroad, that silly Stitch show and Buzz Lightyear ride (Star Tours was closed). Insane to think about and as much as I want to go back I'm afraid that we'd have to book a week there to actually top this and re-experience all of the things I have listed above, lol. But then again, I was extremely lucky - in USJ we've done Harry Potter 5 times and I got selected for Olivanders, too. Should've bought a lottery ticket aswell. 😂

    It’s really important which month you go. If you go during school holiday in Japan, wait times are too long so I don’t even think about going. On the other hand, if you go during school times, especially Mid April or Mid January, crowd is much less due to many school related events, exams, start of new academic year etc

    I attended Disney/Epcot in Orlando in November 1996 and there was very minimal waiting, never more than a few minutes for anything and I never paid to lessen the waiting time‼️. However, after having seen this video. I never want to go to any of them again. I do not have the patience to wait in line, plan everything out as you did via an app for which you must pay to skip the lines‼️

    Great video, easily the second best video I’ve ever watched about queuing at Disney (iykyk). Maybe not your intention but has absolutely convinced me not to go to Disney when I’m in Japan next year.
    Disney has such a problem now - I was at Disneyland Paris last year and found it so busy, but it was nowhere near this. They are simply allowing too many people into the park when it is like this. Considering how expensive Disney is, I would have been gutted to have this experience.

      Thanks although the silver lining is Disney in Japan is the cheapest one out there! Only £45!

    Thanks for sharing this. I visited Japan parks and have always wondered, how come people are willing to wait for so long, in any case, i guess the paid fastpass does it job well. If everyone thought of gettjng it, then it wont work. But the ratio to people willing to wait in line for hours and hours on end is crazy

    • @SuitcaseMonkey
      @SuitcaseMonkey  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers. Since posting, I think I’ve figured it out. I think Tokyo locals see the park more of a hangout place. Like we might go to a bar or cafe they go here. So waiting in line doesn’t matter as much. I dunno. It’s a thought.

    I got the chance to go to Disney World once when my friend got off work and she had guest passes and in two hours she took me on 5 different but exciting rides at the Hollywood studios park, you definitely need somebody familiar or have a really good game plan to get the best out of Disney

  • @savannawind
    @savannawind หลายเดือนก่อน

    also when you enter the park you have to book, the free parade seating (so unlikely to get it). 40 th aniversary lineskip, priority line skip,entry request and lunch in that order
    also you do know you can go to rides after the fireworks they close at 10

    • @SuitcaseMonkey
      @SuitcaseMonkey  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah but again as per my last message, I’ve been countless times to Disney before (like 15 times in total) so assumed this would be largely business as usual. That’s kinda the point of this whole video. Also, even if you’re right about the above, it shouldn’t be this difficult to visit a theme park.

    Wonderful video! I am happy to be part of a growing 'Suitcase Monkey Youth' movement 😂. If it takes years, if not decades, of Disney Park experience/fandom to know how to make the most of this trip then I can only imagine what a dreadful experience this ends up being when going in cold for the first time - and then how exponentially worse it must be if it were a family with young children going for the first time. 😓 For this Suitcase Monkey destination I am extremely happy to watch this video, but will this time take a hard pass on participating myself.

    Just wanted to ask - as someone who has never been. Do you pay for entry to the park, and then also pay for the fast pass to enter attractions?

    • @SuitcaseMonkey
      @SuitcaseMonkey  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pay entry for park. Most attractions are free but you can pay to skip some rides. It used to be just pay for entry and everything was included.

    I went to Disneyland in California the summer of 2018. Tomorrowland was stuffed shoulder to shoulder to the point that people couldn’t even walk anymore. Cast members (aka crowd control) arrived with lighted wands waving the crowds towards the exits and screaming “keep moving” over and over again. 20 minutes later we were free’d from my claustrophobic nightmare and I decided I would never go back. Magic lost.

    I really love visiting Disney parks, love the immersion, the theming and “Disney bubble” but the heavy app use just pulls you out of all that. Having to micro manage your whole trip… it’s putting me off going and I’m a fan. Everyone always says how much better TDR is but it looks like it’s the same experience there.
    Really loved Efteling as it was so much more relaxed and so pretty and tidy.

    This was very entertaining! The main point is that you did enjoy your day. I was curious however about how much the day cost? Regardless I love Disney also but would pass on this one if I ever visited Japan. I still see Orlando as the main one. Will I visit the one in California or Paris hmmm not sure about that either. What we realize now is that even one park day requires a recovery day (slow day) so it does eat up a lot of time when you want to see other things in a newer location.

    • @SuitcaseMonkey

      It’s actually the cheapest Disney park I can remember. Only £45 compared to about Magic Kingdom being about 3 times more expensive!

    what a lovely video! I'm going to Tokyo Disneysea in a couple weeks, and I'm wondering if it's even worth it to get in line so early ...? Would you say your wife experienced a much worse line when she woke up to get into the park, or was it about the same? If it's not worth it to get there early I'd much rather get another hour of sleep!!

    • @SuitcaseMonkey
      @SuitcaseMonkey  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey. Oh sorry if it wasn’t clear but she never intended to visit. She’s not a fan! Ha. But I would recommend getting there early (if you can be bothered) I was able to see more because of it as the passes run out. My suggestion is arrive early, claim a free ticket and paid if you’re happy to as soon as you enter and ride whatever else you’re interested in while you wait for the passes to be active. I did go to Sea a few years ago and really enjoyed it (there’s a slightly out of date video on this channel) as it’s so unique. Let me know how it goes!
