  • Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, addresses the General Debate of the 79th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 24 - 30 September 2024).
    World leaders gather to engage in the annual high-level General Debate under the theme, "Unity and diversity for advancing peace, sustainable development, and human dignity, everywhere and for all." Heads of State and Government and ministers will explore solutions to intertwined global challenges to advance peace, security, and sustainable development.
    The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.

"The people of Palestine and the whole region need our support for their efforts to put an end to this conflict which has plagued the world for so long" ~Nelson Mandela in a speech delivered by Foreign Minister Alfred Nzo on behalf of President Nelson Mandela on International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, South Africa, 25 November 1998

    👩🏼‍🎓🇺🇳. “Our people have the right to hope, the right to a future, the right to life itself. No power on this earth can destroy the thirst for human dignity. Our land cries out for peace. We will only achieve it through adherence to democratic principles and respect for the rights of all.” ~Nelson Mandela

    👩🏼‍🎓🇺🇳. “When, in 1977, the United Nations passed the resolution inaugurating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, it was asserting the recognition that injustice and gross human rights violations were being perpetrated in Palestine. In the same period, the UN took a strong stand against apartheid and over the years, an international consensus was built, which helped to bring an end to this iniquitous system. But we know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians, without the resolution of conflicts in East Timor, the Sudan and other parts of the world.” ~Nelson Mandela
    during the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, Pretoria, South Africa, 4 December 1997

      So, as long as you dismiss Israel's real security concerns with a variety of excuses, there will be no peace, and what you really advocate for is war. Because as a democratic country, it will simply vote in another leader that addresses their concerns. As awful as Netanyahu is, you must address the root cause, end the occupation in a manner that guarantees Israel's safety. Global condemnation, demands of unilateral actions, call for toppling the regime. None of those things contribute to the feeling of safety thus don't lead to peace. As right as a cause may be, years and years and years of terrorism, calls for violence and inhalation will degrade the cause. Palestinians should have never sided with violence resistance, it is thw reason Israelis can't trust them.

      @@alexmost166 why do the security concerns of israelis matter more than the security concerns of the palestinians? I don't know about you but I'm more concerned about the concerns of the people experiencing apartheid than the people fearing retribution for their actions. Populations that have dominated others always have such 'real security concerns'. You ignore all the times palestinians tried non-violent resistance, or you are unaware of them. Start with the march of return and work backwards. It was not taken off the table by them.

    • @alexmost166
      @alexmost166 45 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      @gerryh7895 That's a silly question. Don't address Israel's security concerns, and you won't get peace, ever. Is it worth the petty back and forth accusations of who matters more? Both sides matter?
      But if you honestly want to understand why, here it is:
      Before any apartheid and any occupation and any displament, Palestinian arabs and Palestinian jewish migrants were clashing in the late 1800s early 1900s. In the late 40s, Palestinians refused the partition plan approved by the UN and attacked the state of Israel in 1948 unprovoked. Many, of not all Palestinians want all of Israel, not the Palestinian territory of the 1967 lines as agrees by the UN. The peace talks of Oslo were marked with a record number of terror attacks in busses, restaurants, schools, nightclubs, busy markets. The population is scared that the Palestinians don't actually want peace, and they have a valid reason to seek gurentees.
      After 1948 Israel was a small country that from its beginning had no allies (until the 1980s when the US befriend them), surrounded by brutal dictatorships that at the time dreamed of a pan arab nation without Israel. This manifested itself in war of inhalation time and time again. Just because Israel is strong today and has peace with some of its neighbors doesn't make it forever safe, hence the need for gurentees. Someome to vouch for its security. It will not agree to a peace deal where it is still being attacked by jihadist and violent rioters, where neighbors are still plotting its inhalation.
      Secondly, everyone's security concerns matter. That's the point that you achieve peace by addressing both sides' concerns, ignore one side, you won't have peace.
      Side note, Tell me, how does Hamas or Islamic Jihad improve the safety of Palestine? Or does it increase the danger?
      If you want peace. How can we solve the issue without both sides agreeing to stop hostilities and have a way to guarantee it? If what you want is to punish Israel into a unilateral action that would not respect Israel's security concerns, allowing terrorism to persist. Will it achieve peace, then? No. Is it really peace that you want? Or do you actually want retribution? That's valid human emotion, but why do it under false pretenses?

    • @alexmost166
      @alexmost166 41 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      @gerryh7895 Yes, I am aware of the non-violent protest. To say it didn't work is funny. 1st, they did it after 50 years of terrorism. So yes, the Israeli population was already hardened. 2ndly where was the global pressure before Oct 7? I was a lefty individual. My parents were peace activists actively working to bring Palestinians and Israelis together. The solution might take time, but the idea that terrorism would bring peace and freedom somehow? The Israeli left is practically dead because of the second intifada. How short sighted it is to claim this has any benefit.

    The UN Security Council is dysfunctional and has completely failed. It needs to be removed or completely reconfigured as per Finland’s president.
    Three extremely good ideas from Finland.
    “Finland’s President was reported ahead of the UN meeting as saying he would make three proposals for reform in the Security Council on Wednesday.
    “The first one is to expand it by five members, one from Latin America, two from Africa, and two from Asia.
    “My second proposal is that the veto power of all permanent and non-permanent members of the Security Council should be scrapped.”
    He added: “The third one is that if a member of the Security Council blatantly violates the UN Charter, its voting rights in the Council should be suspended.”

    Jordan is a Palestinian country. But why did the kings Father chase out the PLO. Why didn't Jordan do the two state solution when it controlled the West Bank from 48-67 ?

    It’s called Judea and Samaria not West Bank .
    Your ancestors did conquered Judea and Samaria in the first war in 1948.
    Your ancestors changed the from Judea and Samaria to West Bank
    Your ancestors changed many Jewish name like Hebron to Arabs name.
    Israel did sent message to your late Father not to join Egypt and Syria in the June war, but your late father thought the Israelis are weak and Jordan will take more Israeli lands like the war in 1948.
    You lost and the Jews liberated Jerusalem King David City from the Arabs occupation
    Jews lived in Israel thousands of years before Islam was born
    Please read your Holy Quran verse 5:20-21
    Did Allah promised the land of Israel to Jews or Islam ?

    Condescending speech! He never touched the topics of Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis etc and how they operate within recognized governments and act at will carrying out terrorist acts. Unless you solve the problem of militias operating freely within States, there is not going to be any peace .. who are you kidding! Let's not just blame Israel for everything. The countries surrounding it are out of order harbouring militias, is it not?! They should be talking more about that as the people in those countries are suffering and living under terror .. losing their bank accounts and other assets being frozen or stolen right under their noses by these militias. Solve and liberate the people from the cluthces of these forces first if you want any semblance of peace to begin with.

    “Our people have the right to hope, the right to a future, the right to life itself. No power on this earth can destroy the thirst for human dignity. Our land cries out for peace. We will only achieve it through adherence to democratic principles and respect for the rights of all.” ~Nelson Mandela
