I never knew widescreen TVs had been around that long, at least for general consumers. To think that almost 15 years later they would not only rise in popularity, but become the standard…
I'm more amazed at the quality of the video really, most camcorder at the time are not very good or many were just converted poorly to digital format. Video quality are great surprisingly clear for VHS,or video 8 format it sounds great too.
I think I went to this CES as a kid. They were handing out Segas Fighting Masters collectible cards and a giant plastic bone for some other game I can't remember.
I feel like I'm living in the wrong generation of video games. I'd have more fun at this convention than any other video game convention. I like the simple games more. Nothings more fun than letting your imagination fill in the gaps. New video games today are fun, but they lack imagination. It's too real sometimes. Video games are becoming the new Hollywood vs. books, they strip the imagination away from you and force you to believe what they give you rather than making up your own theory to the story.
Well put. I'm way more into retro gaming myself. More challenge, more originality and like you say a portion of room for the player's imagination to fill in the gaps. Also, I'm just a sucker for nostalgia:) This era of video games, movies and music reignites that feeling of being a child, which I believe is worth experiencing in life.
@@cryptolord9826 It's funny - I'm sure there were people who had played Atari 2600/Colecovision/NES games saying the same thing looking at those games. It's not like they were intentionally making games simple, they were striving for better graphics/gameplay etc. - it's simply what commodity chips would allow at the time.

@MetalTiger88 I thought that was crazy too. I don't think 720p/1080p was realized back then but I think they were focusing more on just the 16:9 aspect ratio being used at home.
Returning from watching the Summer Games Fest 2023, and there's Sonic Superstar coming but no new Mario game announced yet. Edit: Super Mario Bros. Wonder announced during the summer Nintendo Direct.
It's kind of crazy that the big marquee title for a major hardware manufacturer back then was a game about a giant-headed caveman called Bonk. They were all like "dude look at this awesome shit we have right here" and it's a game called Bonk about literally bonking dudes with your huge head.

+ThexthSurvivor No kidding, same here! I wanted to go to this shit back then when I was a kid SO BADLY! Sadly, I was under age so I had to stay home and just play my Neo-Geo AES instead. My uncle was able to go, and bring me back some cool swag though, which was cool I guess.
@@TheNewFakk28 "just play my Neo-Geo AES instead" oh poor you, you ONLY got to play your $400-600 (in '91 dollars) home arcade console with the games themselves costing hundreds of dollars, lol. I don't think I knew anyone who had a Neo-Geo, and I had classmates with some fairly well-to-do parents.

To me.
In its purest, distilled form.
I remember that first line of widescreen HD tv sets. They probably cost more than our car, and weighed just as much too.
