  • Do you own a Miele vacuum? Are you considering investing in one? Have you been deterred by horror stories of the dust bag leaking dust and dirt into the bag compartment?
Don’t let it scare you. User or technician neglect causes this, so it’s important to learn the simple reasoning behind it and the simple way to keep your Miele bag from leaking any dust.
Keep your unit pristine! After all, one of the reasons people buy Miele vacs is BECAUSE they don’t want to breathe, touch, or see the dust it picks up; even when it comes down to changing the filter bags.
It’s a very common misconception that Miele dust bags leak, but they can under few conditions. This video shows how it can happen, why it can happen, and the GUARANTEED way to avoid it. It’s very simple. Watch the video to find out!

I had a Miele and traded it in for a SEBO and now I’m trading it back in for a Miele. I now mostly have tile in my home and I like Miele better for tile flooring.

Hi, I can quite decide if this issue is due to lousy design or nasty design. Lousy in that if the bag is not clipped in place correctly, then the lid should not be able to be shut. Nasty design in that the goal is to destroy the vacuum forcing you to replace the whole unit. Thank you for the video. I found out about this so-called convenience feature the "hard way" with a brand-new C3 Cat and Dog having its innards filled with dust too. Keep up the great videos!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Why would they add this so called feature. I do not think the older Miele canisters had this.
Then I thought maybe they added it to try and differentiate the two blue parts to prevent people from removing the blue plastic attachment slot when changing their bags.
I do think it is a bad design and would be better if it would prevent the user from closing the lid if the bag is not completely inserted correctly.

@@impermanance5624we also have an s5000 where if it’s on the ground without a bag, you cannot shut the lid without forcing it shut. If the bag is partially installed then shutting the lid seats the bag properly.

@@impermanance5624 it won’t close if a bag is not in it, and it won’t close if a bag is not pushed down into the dock. However, this isn’t a fool-proof design since the lid can still be forced shut with generic bags. This problem is mostly due to bent docks and collars from trying to force it to close, and trying to use generic bags.

@@Cleaning_Hero Hi, If the s8/C3 is standing upright and the door is opened to inspect the bag, then it can be closed without force. We only have genuine bags. It's poorly thought out.

Wow thanks for the follow up video on my question! That’s very kind of you.
I’m waiting on my c3 Marin to arrive and thanks to your guide videos I’m sure you have saved me from a broken motor and expensive repair down the line.
    Another great video and tips.
Looking forward to the rest of your Miele c3 series.
    Much appreciated ☃️

You are welcome! My grandmother has that machine. By the way, you can get a bulk pack from Miele that comes with 16 bags, 4 premotor filters and 1 HEPA exhaust filter. Miele gives you 1 premotor filter for every 4 bags in the box you buy, as you are supposed to replace the premotor filter after every 4 bags. Don’t forget to make sure the bag is seated properly before you use it, and make sure to date the exhaust filter and squeeze it’s TimeStrip green tab. I’ll make another getting started video.

Also, I forget to say make sure to check the very top of the wand, to the left of the socket for cracks. It’s the plastic part around inside the metal shaft, at the very top where the handle goes in. Some of those wands have cracks in them in that spot. Miele should either send you a new one or the retailer should have you ship the machine back in exchange for a whole new unit. It is one of the first things you take out of the box so check that first before you take the whole unit out. I can send you a pic of what I’m talking about if you aren’t sure what I part I am referring to. This happened with one of my Miele vacs but the second one was fine.

I would be very interested to see a video about why you prefer miele over other vacuums especially Sebo since im trying to make up my mind between the two :-)

Of course it's a bad design. If you look from the side how the tube in the lid travels in like a curve when closing you'll see why it can get stuck if the bag opening isn't exactly in the right position.
